I just love choppers. They make the ball look like its moving in slo mo and it takes a lot of skill to be able to do it when the opponent is slamming the ball at you so quickly.
Top players. Wonderful technique. Incredible shots. Hope there will always be players of the same magnitude/class in future for us table tennis lovers.
Did u all notice that faint smile @ 7:26! He is amazing man.. only Zhang and Wang Hao have mastered how to dispatch the worlds best defender so effortlessly!
Уверенная игра Жан Жаке по защите.Местами мне кажется ,что Он с Хьюком играет как кот с мышью.Надо отдать должное и Хьюку: отлично вытягивает,контратакует.Хотелось бы видеть больше активной игры от защитника.
@yogistyle92 they are called "provincial edition" , DHS Hurricane II and Skyline III are available as a Provincial Edition i think. they realy have special sponges and are only for sale for the chinese top athlets and table tennis clubs in china. but in some shops like eacheng"dot"net can you order them
Zhang Jike was injured back in the Hungarian Open, he was even going to stop it at the 2nd set, but he showed sportsmanship by not doing so. With all the respect I got for Joo, he can't really with Zhang.
@DaKrazedKyubizt He also uses more spin than Ma Long. It seems he actually has a ton of power but had some issues controlling it so he was trained to use more spin in his shots. If you watch Ma Long vs. ZJK matches, you'll see ZJK's loops kick and bounce a lot lower than Ma Long's.
I have always noticed that when joo does a chop with his forehand, it seems that the opponent can smash it easy unlike when he uses his backhand to chop, the opponent would have a harder time smashing it.. idk whats up with it. Is it that the forehand isn't for chopping or maybe its pimpled, idk
You do realize that this video is quite old, don't you? Zhang has won Ma Long in the Slovenian Open 2012 and has also won Xu Xin at Korean Open 2012. And, btw, last time they played with Wang Liqin, Zhang won 4-1. So, I don't really know what you talking about...
@frickenbaba oh, and Zhang also prepares better for blocking Joo's random loops. He's a better blocker overall. And that last point... Zhang baited Joo REAL good. He was ready for that the whole time. The unusual amount of spin on Zhang's loop could also be attributed to the completely different physics of Chinese style rubber and Chinese looping style.
@jwzhu Yeah, those two are the two best players in the world by quite a margin. I would have to say that Ma Long is the stronger one of them, but interestingly, it is Zhang who has grabbed the most important titles (though Ma Long certainly has more titles overall).
Correct me if I'm wrong, it seems like Joo simply couldn't handle Zhang's forehand loops because of how much spin it has. I don't think it was Joo making unforced errors, but rather Zhang forcing him to make mistakes.
Zhang became number one, and has only stayed there because the CNT are training for the Olympics at the moment and are not competing in tournaments :P On an off day and if Koki Niwa was on a good day I'm sure Koki Niwa could win, he's an outstanding player ranked in the top 20, around the same rank as Ovcharov when Zhang was beaten by him so it's possible .. just unlikely Yeah I agree with you saying he's confident and remains focused but I'd still argue with him being the number 1 player
@frickenbaba Well, I think that may be one aspect of it. Boll's forehand is TOTALLY different from Zhang's for one. I think Boll actually enjoys a bit more spin than Zhang, but I would agree that Zhang's more powerful loops might have a bit more spin. But that's definitely not most of it. I'd say the biggest two problems Joo had with this game is that... 1) Zhang has FANTASTIC aim. 2) Zhang is a strategical genius. I don't think I've seen smarter play from a simple two-winged looper.
I don't even understand why you're referring to the date of this video .. + The Olympic 'warmups' were supposed to be played as if they were playing in the real Olympics to simulate how they should be playing etc after they trained to see how they done. So even though they are 'warmups' which yes I understand what it means, the objective was to try to win .. but he failed to do so against ALL of his opponents .. this is what I'm saying so I recon you should try get up to date sir
Je trouve que Joo n'attaque pas assez, pour ainsi créer un effet de surprise... malgré sa défense extraordinaire, il ne pourra jamais battre les 3 premiers mondiaux, enfin c'est ce que je pense! X)
I strongly disagree that Niwa would beat Zhang. I mean he's 17 and awesome and a very talented kid and all, but no way he'll beat Zhang Jike soon. As for the others that you said, yeah CNT is training for the Olympics, yet they still wouldn't have won Zhang in any of the recent tourneys. Have you seen how efficient he is lately?
Next time try to see the date before even talking. Btw, you said yourself he lost to his teammates at WARMUPS. Not sure if you know what WARMUPS mean... Oh well.
Zhang Jike's adaptability is way above any player right now. The way he defended Joo's counter attacks was totally out of the world. Boll failed, Ma Lin and Wang Hao sometimes fail (though they usually don't let Joo attack), Xu Xin maybe close to Zhang's prediction, but not as consistent... It's really hard to see Zhang Jike lose to counter-attacking choppers any day.
Is 8 years ago comment but in my opinion just let you know zhang lost to joo in Chinese super league in 2010. Joo won most of Chinese top players even once. But never win xu xin. Xu xin is best player for chopper. But lose 1 time to ma te another Chinese chopper.
If Joo played at his top performance maybe the game would have taken another direction, I mean he's playing as if he had a headache compared to his match with Ma long for God's sake.
You can see how strong Joo's attack is, his forehand attack, it's almost unplayable. Chopping is a good defensive tool and can be mixed well, but playing as a full time chopper isn't something worth for. It's my personal opinion. I like Joo a lot, chopping skill makes him unique but not a world/Olympic champion.
Zhang Jike would never lose to a 17 year old guy... no offense. I know how powerful Ma Long is, he is faster and has more power than ZJK. But, Zhang Jike is W#1 because he is playing with more confidence and he always remains focus on his game.
