This entire video shows the beautiful nature of fly fishing and the respect and care that so many fishermen and women give to their sport/hobby and the wildlife associated with it. And i have to mention that fly fishermen seem to give the most care and have the most respect for this sport due to the intimacy and understanding required to succeed at this past time. I have so much love for fishing, and i admire fly fishing and the men and women who practice it more than any other kind.
NONSENSE. Flyfishing is foremost a contest beween the fishermen and their fish but never, ever a contest beween fishermen. If I take a fisherman to one of my favourite rivers I am very satisfied when he is even more succesfull then me..
I cannot believe that they score the competition per stretch of water rather than literally ANYTHING else. Any true angler knows, this is an absolute god awful system and I will do my part to make sure it is addressed... RIP
Flyfishing isn't about numbers. It's about nature and harmony. Peace. Casting competitions, sure. But this is just sad. And the way these guys handle the fish as numbers is disrespectful and damaging. Look at them, quickly grabbing the net, running out of the water and drop the fish on the rocks. And I bet they call themselves good flyfishermen... Disgraceful.
sander van beek id like to see you handle it like a "pro". just be quiet no one wants to here your judgmental ass. yeah sure its about the nature, but they have a time limit they have to abide to.
I can't seem to edit my previous post so sorry for the double: I hope that one of the participants reads this: I'm 22 and I cast better than what I see in this video. Some of your casting is horrible and fishing techniques likewise. I hope you're enjoying the fact that you're competing with random people, instead of real good flycasters.
It shouldn't be seen as a sport, but rather as a hobby. That's the whole problem, it's about relaxation in the countryside, enjoying the peaceful nature, while tricking the fish in the fly that you tied. Come on. I just skipped to a random scene in the video to see if my opinion has changed, but no. This video is embarrassing. I usually don't go to a fishery, but a year ago I did with some friends of mine who enjoy fly fishing in the way I do. I remember that I was floating in the lake with my bellyboat, casting tight lines, looking for fish. I caught a few, and suddenly 2 guys appear (similar to the ones in this video) and start to cast around me. One of them caught a fish, and started shouting at his mate: "LOOK! I GOT ONE!" and he lost it. Then he got frustrated and hit the water with his rod. I simply turned around and started fishing somewhere else, and started catching fish again. It didn't take them very long before they were next to me again, asking for my fly (I lied about my fly, obviously) Anyhow, it is this mentality, and the one that you see in this video, that is preventing people from taking up the sport. These people have no decency. They disgust me.

Just because those two guys were rude does not mean the guys in the video would do the same thing to you. At any rate I find your attitude to be snotty, elitist, and arrogant.
sander van beek youre the type of fly fisherman that destroy the sport. a fucking elitist. you think youre better than everyone else. its a friendly sport people like to get together and fish, yeah some of the casts arent the best but fuck guy quit bein so fucking stuck up. youre not better than anyone else. fly sishing can be both a sport and a hobby it is an outdoor sport, you just make the rest of the fly fishing community look bad because they see someone like you thinking that they are better than everyone else and the rest of us end up being judged for it.
