When I was younger, I played this game at Walmart and had such a blast. The Pc Engine port looks great but just can’t compare to the Neo Geo. Thanks for sharing!
You're welcome. Even though there were plenty of flaws in arcade ports in the 8 and 16-bit eras, we could appreciate the effort, as long as the game played well. I think when we went to the 32-bit era, we became more crticial, as we expected perfection with arcade ports on hardware that was catching up to the arcades. One example of this is Street Fighter Alpha 2. We applaud the effort put into the SNES port, but panned the PS1 version, even though that version looked, sounded, and played better than the Super NES port.
Love the SNES, but the mighty Engine is the way to go for sure on this one. Love that remixed PCE soundtrack. Very well put together video man! Thanks for sharing.
I like the colors in the PC-Engine version better than the arcade. The whites are more of a pure white and the blacks are darker and a more true black. The PCE version was very close to being arcade perfect and was probably the closest to being arcade perfect than any other game of it's time. Love this comparison video. The PCE doesn't get the recognition it deserves. Some of my very favorite games of all time are TurboGrafx 16 games
Thanks! It got its due in Japan, but not here until many years later. Only if it got more support during it's official run, we could've seen more aracde titles, which was a strong point for the system.
Another great comparison video by you Neo. I love World Heroes 2. I used to play this game in the beginning just to listen to the character select music on the Neo-Geo version until the time ran out. 8^) I posted this great video on the Neo-Geo thread for you Neo. Thank you as always for all the hard work you do for us in the community bro. 8^) Anthony...
Thanks Anthony! I have had Dio's theme running in my head the past few days. I'm replaying the frustraiton in my mind of trying to defeat him. Hahahaha!
Excellent comparison video! Really enjoyed it and the editing was superb. I’ll always have a soft spot for world heroes and world heroes 2 since they are some of the only affordable titles and helped play a big part in me getting into collecting for neo geo. Take care bro!
WH2 has a permanent place in my collection, as I remember the first time I came across it in the arcades, and was hooked, now I have the AES and Neo CD versions. Death match mode is so fun! The PC engine port certainly looks like a good effort.
Nice! The effort put in the PC Engine port is impressive, considerng how much better Part 2 looks compared to Part 1. Every PC Engine port of Neo Geo games came out very well.
Love WH2. Never played CD Engine, but SNES and arcade all the time. Reboot to this series like Samurai Showdown would be great. Captain Kidd and J Carn were my guys. I'm surprised SNES version wasn't more popular. It was huge cart with lots of content for the console.
There was also the Saurus Super Famicon version of World Heroes 2, which was identical to the regular SNES version but then kept some of the missing animation and sprites from the Neo-Geo port. Also, characters react to certain attacks differently than the regular SNES version. For example, if you used Ryoko's choke grab on Mudman, the sprite used for Mudman is different in both versions. In Mudman's stage, when a character is knocked down, the background dancers drop their loin cloths. This is kept in the Super Famicon version. Lastly, there was the Neo-Geo CD version of this game. There wasn't much difference from the regular Neo-Geo version except during the character vs screens, they had special animation portraits of the character you were going up against.
Wonderful Video! What hurts snes ports is the small carts that are used to save money, so content is forced to get cut down to make more profit. The number of fighters definitely took up way too much space but as a kid, I put in months in world heroes 2 at home. Neo geo version is way to expensive, and PC-engine game are hard to find in NYC those days (isnt CD japan only?), so back then the SNES version was the way to go. I also think this is the best version of world heroes to have. JET is ok too, but missing all those character themes are annoying, but I also put months into the GB version which was very awesome, when you beat the GB version you was able to pick attributes upgrades for each character (SPEED, STRENTGH AND DEFENSE) of course the other 2 attributes get downgraded. World Heroes perfect I like the characters sprite and gameplay, but the music took a downgrade badly and the level backgrounds were limited.
Thanks man! I bought my AES copy of World Heroes 2 at J&L Games in Midtown back in 2014 for only $55. I think the charm of World Heroes declined after dropping the Death Match mode. That offering made it stand out form other fighters.
The PC Engine Arcade Card Version is amazing. The comparison in technical achievement isn't even close. To get such a good port from a system with an 8bit CPU, even considering the extra ram from the Arcade Card is just astounding.
I've always been a huge fan of this series, but 2 was my favorite. I really enjoyed the death match, and I also liked the SNES version of the game a lot with the additional options. A two player game with time limit off on death match can lead to a long epic battle.
Loved the snes version over the neo geo, so many good options, you missed the multiple color outfits(like super street fighter 2 at the time) and masking the life bars so no one knows who’s winning until a ko or a timeout reveals the bars.
I wanted to focus on the biggest similarities/differences between the arcade original and their ports. I or anyone else is bound to leave some details off.
3:14 - I am referencing home ports outside of the Neo·Geo family of consoles, which is why I did not mention the Neo·Geo CD version. I want to give attention to the non-Neo·Geo versions, as there is more to talk about for those versions.
In the Super Famicom/SNES version of the haircut stage in World Heroes 2, you see that the cameramen, along with the female model spectators that were in the background are not shown there. Also in the spike wall stage the two female model spectators in the background are shown standing closer together watching the fight and that they both are wearing the same color dresses (red) and one have blonde hair and the other one have brown hair
@@gamerguy13dave24 There were a lot of cutbacks in the background details, but the letterboxing made everything small, which very common amongst Super NES fighters.
The Neo Geo version of World Hero is better than the snes version also the turbogarfx-16 version should have been released in the USA in the first. 😀👍🎮
I need to whip out the PCE Duo-R so I could play WH2. Idk if I need the Arcade card for it since it's not easy to come across. I also need a few 6-button pads.
What kills the PC Engine for me, is the lack of parallax, the backgrounds feels like a wallpaper, not a real place where the characters are fighting. The size of characters are not everything in a game, look how much more faithful is Samurai Showdown on Snes (all characters, stages, songs and moves) compared to Genesis version (bigger sprites, but lacking in everything else).
For an arcade game, the character size adds to the in your face appeal, which is what Neo Geo games were known for (Art of Fighting is a great example). The considerably smaller sprites in the Super NES port of Samurai Showdown does hurt its edge. The Super NES and PC Engine versions of World Heroes 2 had their shortcomings in different areas, as to be expected, but I stand by my choice of the latter version being the more accurate port, as it retains more of the arcade's aesthetics.
@@fabiojuniooliveira6862 Thanks! Fpr some reason the Super NES video looks a blurry comparted to the other consoles I use, such as the Saturn, PS2, Genesis, etc.
I have the means to do comparison videos for those games. It's a possibility, but I would need a second player to assist with gameplay, for consistent action. Thanks!
@@svuy9801 If I did a video on those, I would use the Neo Geo, PS1, Dreamcast, and PS2 versions for KoF '98 and the Neo Geo, PS1, and Saturn versions for KoF '95.
