Great Video!!! So Janette, tell us honestly how you feel about Orange Hell. 🤣😂🤣I loved your summary of all the puzzles. I can't remember, did we have a reasoning for the order that we did the two team final puzzles? Like why did we choose the Arearea one first?? Do you remember?
@janetteandherpuzzles

Hahahaha I think it was pretty obvious how I feel about it!! 😂😂 Thank you! Well yeah, we thought the Arearea looked easier because it had more specific sections - I don't think you agreed with us tho 😅

Great job on the recap and overview. It was enjoyable watching the livestream and seeing you as a guest commentator. You were definitely in your element. I kept saying, "Oh no" at some of the puzzles. It was also great that lesser-known puzzlers were featured for us to get to know. Happy that you, Vicky, Jubie, and Donnalouise had the opportunity to meet, experience, and participate in the competition 🧩👏

I'm probably going to ask each of you this question because I have trouble with my back - How was your back after doing the individual, pairs and teams competition on the same day? And what do you do, if anything, to keep your back from getting sore when speed puzzling or just regular puzzling?
@janetteandherpuzzles
@janetteandherpuzzles 7 месяцев назад
Well that's a good question actually! I had pain in my shoulders after puzzling sitting down, but had pain in my back when standing up - I don't puzzle standing up usually, so I mostly had shoulder and neck pain at the competition, which I tried to release with a little self massage, and stretching the muscles. I think it's just important to release tension before it gets too bad - I started massaging on day one haha 😂😅

Love the video! Watching the livestreams and now y’all’s individual videos has been so fun! Seeing all the puzzles together in your video made me realize just how many I would not want to get! The only one I have from this year is the Canadian puzzle from teams and I did not think it was easy! The frame and white borders were quick but then it’s a lot of same colors of brown, green, and rocks in all the sections. I’ve done the archaeologists desk puzzle you had in individual but it was as a 1000 piece by Buffalo Games. I’d love to try it as a 500.
@janetteandherpuzzles

Thank you! Hahahaha you know I had the same thought when I saw the puzzles being pulled out of bags for each round 😂😂 Canada one was a team puzzle, so I understand if you did it on your own, that it would be a lot more difficult. It really helps when you have 6 other hands helping you - I would have never finished A day in Paris if I was doing it by myself 😅😬 Oh interesting! I absolutely love the image of that puzzle - I would love to do it as a 1k puzzle! 🤩

Good video, I enjoyed the explanation of how it all worked. I did watch the live streams but didn't glue myself to them from start to finish. I felt so sorry for DonnaLouise getting that lupins puzzle but pleased that she went through due to the country rule. Quite an interesting choice of puzzles and, as had been predicted, circular ones popped up. The panorama may have taken people by surprise but in a competition you have to accept whatever appears. The pairs final puzzle....whoa.... that was hard!!!! Such a busy puzzle that made it difficult to know how to tackle it. I'm sure you all had a blast of a time and thoroughly enjoyed yourselves. Look forward to the next instalment.

Thank you! 😁 I completely understand, it was a lot to watch! 😅 Oh my, we felt for everyone as soon as they pulled that puzzle out of the box 😬 The organizers said, that they wanted to show bigger range of puzzles this year, that's why they included Circle of Colors, Nature editions and other Art puzzles 😊 Haha the pairs puzzle was awful 😅😂 But on the bright side, we knew we won't be able to finish it, so we puzzled very leisurely 😅

I think I was the only one enjoying the drums, they were just giving me some rhytm. My teammates hated them too 😄 Janette, you’re just like my teammate, the one I introduced to you, she likes to sort! She wanted to sort the sea creatures so bad, but I was not letting her, because it was distracting me from seeing the colors. I don’t know how we managed to finish it at the end 😄

On the harder similar color areas, have you ever divided the pieces up to people, and each person tries their pieces? Sort of a "these are my pieces" approach to a team solution?
@janetteandherpuzzles
@janetteandherpuzzles 7 месяцев назад
This is a very good question for a video, so I will elaborate more there, but if we sorted the puzzle, then we all just grabbed one section and worked on it. With the ones that we full flipped, each of us picked a section and let everyone know which one it is, so two people wouldn't be doing the same thing.

Thanks for the enjoyful summary - congrats to your results! In Pairs they did let 33 advance from each group instead of the planned 30 - so there were 99 in the final instead of 90. There were some time troubles in Group A (we were 30th, thus I know), so I think they just took 3 teams extra in order to ensure that at least the correct top 30 were guaranteed to be included... Good jury decision! In Pairs finals I was sitting quite near to you and Donnaluise and my ears might have caught some exclamations of despair from the direction of your table. 😂

Awesome recap video Janette. There was a lot of new tactics and strategies you learned from this experience. It was a lot to be gained despite the hard puzzles. I agree with you about all the easy and the hard puzzles you had. I think that panoramic puzzle “orange nightmare” is unforgettable. Your team worked together so hard and so well. You persevered and did it. That’s what counts. Next competition you will do better. I tend to freeze when my puzzles are hard or dark or busy too. I just try to piece together any detail and go from there or try to find the shape that fits there. I used to be a piece sorter but now I just look for details and shapes or edges. Thank you for sharing your thoughts about the competition, I enjoyed it a lot ❤️
@janetteandherpuzzles
@janetteandherpuzzles 7 месяцев назад
Thank you! 🤗 Yes, I have learned so much from this competition, and I think it'll only help me next year! The orange one was a nightmare yes 😅 I'm so glad I had Donnalouise encouraging me, to keep going - if I was on my own with that puzzle, I'd probably cry 😬🙈 Ok, so I'm not alone in this - I think this is definitely something that I have to learn, as I do think, that it slowed me down 😅 Piece sorting is a way for me to get out of my head, when I feel stuck with a puzzle. I tend to rely on shape of the pieces too much I think 🤷🏻‍♀️

Great video. I would be interested in finding out how you all started organizing it from the beginning... in deciding who would pair up and how you decided as a team that you would do it with the four of you. That seems the hardest part... deciding to go to the competition and with who.
@janetteandherpuzzles
@janetteandherpuzzles 7 месяцев назад
Thank you! And yes, this is actually a story better told in the video, so will definitely elaborate more there, but to give you the quick answer - Donnalouise told me she wants to go, but doesn't wanna go alone, so I said I'll go if she goes. Then we asked Vicky to come as she's closest, and then Jubie said she would be in Europe anyway, so she joined as well. So it was really a no-brainer for us luckily 😅

Thank you Vesna! Oh, you have to do that on the computer - when you see the times for each group (A, B and final), and you have the order of puzzles every group has done - then you have to click on the picture of the puzzle, and it will open a completely new section for this puzzle only 😉

Hi Janette, What was your best experience during the “Puzzle Olympics”, and the worst experience? Did you have to change your sorting techniques, eg using both hands to sort and build? Well done on your individual and team events, it was amazing to watch. Please keep posting and as always happy puzzling. Mark+Chris🇦🇺👍😎😃
@janetteandherpuzzles
@janetteandherpuzzles 7 месяцев назад
Good question! Let me think about that 😅 I think the best experience is just being around everyone with the same passion for puzzles - it's such a special environment and it's something I never expected to experience. The worst experience on the other hand, I think would be how stressed I got when puzzling individuals - like as soon as I got stuck with a puzzle, I just started to tell myself that I won't be able to finish it. So I think this is definitely something I'll have to work on for next year 😁 I didn't change my techniques, I went with what I practiced with - so full flip, unless it's a clear gradient puzzle (like Poke Bowl). And my brain can't do build as you sort, so that's an automatic no for me 😂 Thank you!! And happy puzzling to you too! 🤗

@janetteandherpuzzles Yeah I mean I'm not making the rules so they can do whatever. I just get kinda iffy there. Then again I also don't like that they only use one brand of puzzles but I understand how valuable sponsorship is in hosting these events. At the end of the day I'm never competing at this event and I doubt I'll ever do any speed puzzling so my opinion doesn't mean much ;)

Great competition and you did well but SORRY I DO NOT agree with "automatic qualification" based on country...inclusitivy in real life is great but it WATERS DOWN competitions and really makes the results not that respectable considering someone could have finished it 10 minutes faster but wont qualify becaues they are from the US or something......
@LogicMasterSteve
@LogicMasterSteve 7 месяцев назад
If every country is allowed to send only their best, say, 4 participants to the event (like in many World Championships, Olympics,... in sport), then you don't need country rules. If on the other hand, one country (Spain) ia allowed to send 150 competitors to a World Championship and another country (Slovenia) sends only 2 competitors - you cannot call that a fair World Championship. Thus, I am a big fan of some country rule - although this year the country rule did cost me the spot in the individual final.

Thank you! 🤗 So just to explain, it wasn’t automatic - only best from top 30 countries (at least for individuals) got to advance and there were more than 30 countries in each preliminary round. It got more difficult to qualify from semi-final to finals. For pairs and teams, the number of best from each country was even smaller that qualified. Unless they can have new unreleased puzzles for every round of the entire competition in every category, many have an advantage as they have access to these puzzles which others don’t. So to even the playing field, they have the country rule. It’s a rule that appears in many sporting events, to make it a Worldly competition.

@@kevinpatrickcarey3741 No problem! ☺ And I completely understand. Everyone is allowed to have their own opinion, and don't worry, it didn't sound too rough 😉

Guess you don't come from a smaller country then. Seriously, I rather watch a "world" competition with a bunch of...xyz... representatives, more than the 40th US competitor. On the other hand, I do agree with another comment that they must have at least FINISHED the puzzle.
