It's a unique function of Soviet vehicles in WoT, that the larger the aiming reticle, the more Accuracy you can fit into it. I'm sure Circon once theorized the most efficient sniper in the Red Army was a Light Tank Commander with 50% training drafted into a KV-2 with no other crew remaining, manning a broken 152mm howitzer in a rotating turret, traveling at full speed.

The 8.8cm Flak 18 was first used against ground targets in the Spanish Civil War and later the Flak 36 was used against British Matilda I's in 1940 at Arras.

Jingles, Wehrmacht did know about the deficiencies of the tank's own guns - so they did ensure that the 88 mm kanone would have AP ammunition too ! And that was their doctrine in 1940 in France, the 88 mm was intended for all targets air or ground or sea.

I fail tooned my KV2 into a teir 9 game my first game in it, one spotted a doom turtle. Did 80% damage with my shot and then he burned to death. Way back when this game was still fun to play.

Sherman derping was every bit as fun as KV-2 derping. I really miss it.

I believe that was a KV-1 that held up that German division. And Jingles is correct in saying that the guns on the German tanks couldn't penetrate the armor. The shells would just bounce off. They wheeled a couple of 88 AA guns into position, but the tank destroyed them before they could be set up. They tried again with supporting tank fire as a distraction and managed to disable it after several shots. The crew was finally finished off with some hand grenades. After the battle, the KV-1 was inspected and the Germans found that the smaller shells just left marks on the armor, while some of the 88's had only left deep gouges in the armor. It certainly was a wake up call for them.

If I remember right. The KV-2, was a KV-1 hull with that great big turret slapped on it, there where only 100 made, I think. And most didn't last a year. Then the KV-3 came out. I will find references.

I could be wrong, but I believe in the WW2 story the tank held a crossroads not a bridge. Also, it was a KV tank of unknown model, the speculation is it was likely a KV-2, but it could of been a KV-1.

Pz.Sfl IVc means Panzer Selbstfahrlafette 4c, which tranzslates to tank selfpropelledantitankgun 4c, because it is an armored selfpropelled anti tank gun, the version 4 mark c

I once managed to kill a StuG III with nothing but splash damage in my KV-2. It hit the ground under it and did all the damage through the floor! Unfortunately the last shot on the E-25 isn't something limited to HE, the tracks are hungry of late. AP, HE, doesn't matter, they'll eat the lot.

To be fair, the mediums carrying derps was practically limited to tier V, and there it mostly took place because tier V 75mm guns are genuinely terrible most of the time, with long aim times and terrible accuracy. So if you had to deal with those anyway, might as well mount a gun that makes those worth having.

I always thought the Japanese heavies were a refreshing take. At the time they were released, super heavies were extremely difficult to play. The Japanese heavy line I felt was a perfect way to shut down gold spammers. Of course, I'm not saying the O-I or the O-I exp. weren't broken, but my favorite the tier 8 O-Ho was one of the few heavy tanks that actually stood its ground against people used to just spamming 122mm gold at whatever was in front of them. The O-Ho didn't take skill to punish the tanks in front of you, but it did take and extra braincell from the overpowered tier 8 premiums to get around it. I really enjoyed this tank in WoT prime, but I don't play anymore. It was probably my favorite tank in the game, not because it was easy to play, but because when it was balanced, the gold spammers and campers who complained about the tank were so easy to pick apart. I felt in my O-Ho that was the service I could provide, I could screw over the OP tier 8 premium tank for my team, I could stop that platoon of IS-3A's and one shot the team of Skorpions at the back of the map. 2:08 I dont think this is neccicarally 100% historically accurate and the KV was probably immobilized, but I choose to believe after it evaporated one or two German tanks, the rest all pulled back and were like "No, no, you go roll out of cover and shoot that thing first. I'll be right behind you, trust me" (for which I dont blame them at all) and that went on for an entire day while the equally terrified KV2 crew tried to figure out how to get (for which I dont blame them at all either) away before probably artillery and/or air support took out the KV2

@4:45 I don't think so. The old formular also halved the damage for non pens if i don't misremember, so the damage should've been similar considering the thin top armor. The big difference is that you can't do indirect damage anymore but only damage through the part of the armor you actually hit. Previously you could shoot the lowest part of the Maus mantlet and deal some 250~300dmg through the upper deck armor, that doesn't work anymore. The actual damage through armor, especially considering when thin spaced armor not able to block the shell, is actually better now but requires better aim.. and hence RNG.. which sucks ballz. PS: I think the nerf was mostly aimed at the newer 650, 750 AP guns on those really hard to pen tanks like the 60TP as those were often just using HE instead of HEAT against other similar tanks as even with 310~320 HEAT pen you still need to hit the weakspot to do any kind of dmg where as a 900~1k dmg HE would deal 300~400dmg per shot consistently so that a 50% pen chance would result in less average dmg than just using the much cheaper HE.

On console around first released, in a kv2 splashed a T-29 and a Tiger 1 for a total of 500+ dmg that bracketed the sides of a nashorn whose gun I hit for a whopping under 200 dmg

Arty has a larger caliber gun than KV2 and after the nerfed they stop causing so little damage that most players switch to regular ammo.

The day when I went into the city on Live Oaks in my KV-2 in a tier 8 battle..I got myself a High Caliber and accidently thought I was getting good in this game.

After having it for years, I sold my KV2 yesterday. After all of the nerfs and the endless beatings from OP pay to win tier 8 vehicles, it has become almost useless. How this guy managed to get into a top tier battle I have no idea. I had not faced a lower tier vehicle in months. I did nothing but bounce rounds 3 of 4 shots.

jingles you forgot to say that kv2 drivers did often damage teammates also or completley removed them from map in one shot lol

Yeah, I love the KV-2. About the only two types of battles that are NOT fun for the KV-2: The fast moving battle where the KV-2 just cannot reach a place to shoot at any enemy before the battle is over... ...and the fast moving battle where all the teammates feed themselves to the enemy one at a time in steady succession and leave the KV-2 to deal with half the enemy or more by themself. When surrounded by multiple enemy, the KV-2 is a sitting duck due to the slow reload speed of that 152mm DERP Gun. Yes, he'll probably take a tank or three with him, but the sides and rear armor are not the thickest and a small fast-moving tank with enough penetration can just circle-strafe him...

There is NO reason that the HE shell should not have penned the 20mm side armor of the E25. That mechanic of the HE pen/damage model needs to be fixed.

Hmmm, can WG change the game mechanics so that if KV2 drivers point their gun to the side and fire it will flip the tank? That would level the playing field a bit for tier 6.

the HE nerf was one of the worst changes wargaming have done to the game not only was playing big HE slingers like the kv2 or the japanese heavies very fun, but it was also the only way to deal with the hulldown, impenetrable turret tanks such as the chief or the kran the tanks that were using HE are also balanced, since they take forever to reload and so need their team`s support to survive after taking their shot now, these tanks rarely see play anymore, and while you can still get big damage shots with the kv2, that is now the exception, not the rule

Actually, Jingles... don't worry, I'm getting ready to go to the salt mines already, but the KV tank that held up the German advance for a day during the Battle of Raseiniai was probably a KV-1. Accounts vary, but research into Russian records suggests the most likely tank was a KV-1 from the nearby Soviet 4th Tank Regiment that had become immobilised. Yes, yes... I'm going to get my toothpick to extract the salt for the glorious gnome overlord's fish and chip supper.

3:34 I believe Nicholas Moran has said that the Germans knew full-well the 88mm was good for AT work even before the Battle of France. I mean, why would they have AP ammo ready for that KV-2 if they didn't think it would be useful?

The amount of "shield not penetrated" on Hellcats says that KV-2 HE is utterly killed off.
