World of Warcraft's Free Trial is SERIOUSLY Outdated! 

It's kinda sad that wow free trial is so sad and the FF14 free trial is a meme

wows free trial is like going to the store and getting a free sample in that microscopic dixie cup.

Wow has a box price, a sub fee, an expansion fee and a crapton of microtransactions. This is why I don't touch retail, it's way too scumy. I'll probably maybe consider it if they ever drop the sub fee so I only have to pay for box price and expansions, or keep the sub fee and drop the box price and expansion price. Keep the damn microtransactions since that's the actual bulk of their money making, they don't need all the others.

I understand all the chat restrictions to prevent bot spamming. They should change it to be able to access all content up to the current expansion.

What brought me to FFXIV after my first ever experience with an mmo (completing all of the free osrs content) was the free trial. It's not that I'm cheap, I am more than willing to invest money in something I love, but how am I supposed to know if I love that something if I can't really try it? The free trial got me through 200 hours of content only in the base game and I still have a whole expansion to see. I'd love to try wow some day in the future and it's a shame blizzard isn't rethinking their strategy (to be fair they don't need to, they don't need the new players at all). I think more wow creators should address this barrier like you are doing.

I remember my first experience with this game. I loved warcraft 3 so I thought why not try WOW then? so I installed it since I ONLY see the "free" part. It was Legion expansion I was so hyped to play it was so good but right after I lvl up to 20 I realized something weird that I'm not leveling up I thought it was some kinda glitch or bug, but after the 2-week play, I didn't lvl up. so I re-read everything. I was so frightened since I was young that I had no money to play it. From that day I promised myself, I will definitely play it once it become TRULY free. Even now I have money to play it I can't buy it since that childish promise and I have REALLY bad luck. once I buy it, it might become free tomorrow. But I will wait even if it's gonna take 20 years I will wait.

World of Warcraft tipple dips - Charging a monthly subscription fee, charging for expansions, AND having a cash shop. It's so greedy. I'd actually play the game if it had a pay model more like Guild Wars 2 - charge for the expansions and having a cash shop with mainly just cosmetics and minor QOL items. I'll never pay a monthly sub fee for a game again, especially if they also charge for expansions and have a cash shop on top of that.

free trial people can't even send an invitation to group up with people, this is insane for a mmorpg, I thought the essence of a mmorpg is to play with people but maybe blizzard didn't knew it..!

You're right it is really lacking, but honestly I think they haven't put much effort into the new player experience for a reason. And that is that they don't think that trying to attract new players is worth the effort anymore. Which sounds really weird, but let me explain. There are two main problems with WoW and new players: 1. When it comes to older players (people who have played mmos or other games for some years already) most of them already know about WoW and if they haven't already played it, then they've likely already decided not to play it for one reason or another. Pretty much all potential new player possibilities have been exhausted here. 2. When it comes to younger players (kids/teenagers who are newer to gaming) most of them aren't interested in this sort of semi old school mmo. It's far too investment heavy. Most modern young gamers want to play things that are more instant gratification. Stuff like Fortnite, Fall Guys, etc. Games where you just jump in and play, and you get the full experience right away without needing to invest hundreds of hours. And even for those younger players who may be interested in this kind of game, there are mmos and other sorts of online rpg games (Genshin Impact is a good example) that are entirely f2p. All of these games have something in common, and it's that they're vastly more accessible in one or multiple ways. These younger players don't have the patience for something like WoW, and even if they did there are other similar games that are entirely free. So everyone who's been around has already heard about WoW, and anyone who hasn't been around isn't interested mostly because it's too much investment. And ya they did just make Exile's Reach with Shadowlands, but honestly I'm pretty sure the primary reason for them doing that was for people making alts, not new players. I did actually start a new account just to try the free trial experience after not having played the game for some years now, and ya it doesn't really do a whole lot to entice me back. Exile's Reach is functionally sound, but feels soulless. It has no passion or heart. It feels like taking that first part of FF14 where you visit all the cities and learn about them and trying to condense that down into a smaller package just for the sake of getting it over with quicker. It's like the difference between a home cooked meal and a tv dinner. It's not bad but it's not as enticing either. It all feels so fast tracked, express laned, generic, and bland. I get to Stormwind after Exile's Reach, and it literally becomes a conveyor belt of "Okay set your hearth here, now here's your mount, now here's your spec, now go to BFA." Three hours of casually questing later and I'm 20. And I have very little interest in going further. Not to mention things like bugs with the new ui and some questionable design with the new talent trees.

I just played to level 10 then wondered why I was stuck on the godforsaken ship. Nobody online had the answer but asked in chat on a twitch stream and they said you gotta pony up your buckaroos. I just started play GuildWars2 since that shit is like 25 for an expansion and you get the base game for free too.

Thank you for voicing out. Lvl20 WoW characters once subscription lapsed) which I spent so much time & effort building is really off-putting to some extent, especially for us who experience disadvantage in currency exchange.

Honestly they should just have 2-3 servers just for starter account players with more freedom so it doesn’t impact the main game or other people and it helps flourish people who try to mid max starter accounts but still keep some limitations like only max lvl20 and only having so much gold, or they could make wow classic free to play but I don’t think this greedy company would do that.

The trial account for Wow has always been a bit of an issue for me. I am a student, and have very little spending money at all, so I can't really be throwing R200 at a sub. I loved playing WoW with my sibling during the trial account, we barely quested or did anything of the sort, instead we made our own fun, we traveled into the higher level zones, looked for secrets and little nooks, and we had a blast. I honestly fell in love with the game, but have never been able to play it properly. Even if Blizzard doesn't make WoW a f2p game, which I doubt they will, they could at least remove or up the gold limit and open the auction house, thus allowing free trial players to grind for WoW tokens. Paying the sub would thus still be relevant because you avoid the grinding, but it would allow free players to actually play the game. That or give us WoW Classic for free. I mean, the classic game is basically a giant trial at this point. Allowing people to play the classic game and then sub for modern WoW, I think, could be a good move, as there would be lots of players who finished WoW Classic's content and want to experience the new game and would be willing to pay. But then again, maybe that's just me really wanting to play WoW Classic XD

I know $15 doesn't feel like much to you, but where I live it feels more like $65. I pay $5 for an unlimited phone and internet subscription. I used to play wow on private servers up until Pandaria was released and I always wondered how it would be to play on the official servers, i who'd be willing to pay a $5 subscription fee or at least let me play until lvl 60 and let me get the gold for a token or something.

Even with no chromie time you can do old expansion zone quests for the hell of it through the Command Board.

If they were to do anything. Make it a single server on classic era - you get to play old content 100% free but it’s 20 years old and there is no one playing it

I miss the old 20 lvls that took you a week to reach lvl 20, the current lvl squish is, well, squished to damnation. I'm trying to teach my GF to play and she is NOT getting it, and how can you expect her to get it when you're lvl 20 so fast? it's literally a hand-held all through lvl 20 where honestly it's hard to learn since they're spoon feeding the whole experience to you

At one point in 2012 I had over a year and a half time played across all of my characters and accounts, I quit shortly after. For alliance. I played mainly pvp and arena with a Holy paladin and resto shaman, but had almost a max lvl of every class, and a couple on the horde. After mopd I lost faith in blizzard, all of my top tier arena gear became obsolete with the introduction, there were literally people that just bought the game that had superior gear to mine. Blizzard fucked us over, we were spat on and treated as though our loyalty as customers was meaningless. It pissed a lot of us off

During shadowlands the lvl 20 scene was the biggest it ever was, twinking was quite popular, untill blizzard prevented f2ps from quing in the 20-29 bracket with levelers, killing 20s Dragonflight just further pissed on the fire and ended it

I used to like making a Twink so the whole level 20 only thing made me feel like trying to see how strong you can get only using free trial. I was happy to see I could still reach insane mastery stats as healing shammy. But now that I'm about as strong as I can get I am trying to find other fun things to do. I have not done any big content yet

They really need to fix their economy. Token prices just keep on soaring ever higher. Gold prices and rewards all need to be seriously normalized and token prices forever fixed.

I only ever played Guild wars Because I refuse to pay for a game as a subscription because every second I am not playing a subscription game means every second I am playing costs me more. However my wife plays wow and keeps trying to get me to play the game despite me having tried once and said I didn't like it. I logged back in on her PC and saw my 4 stupid old characters, deleted them. Made 6 free trial characters today just to humor her but I have no plans to play beyond level 20 if even to that because there is far too much for me to learn.

Eve Online is not Free to Play. It does have a free trial. Free account are Alpha account and paid subscription are Omega accounts. Alpha accounts train skill points slower and are limited in ship size. Omega account train faster and have no ship restrictions.

Paying a sub fee + every expansion is absolutrly insane, and even more in some countries. Sure 15$ doesnt seem much in america, but where im at thats the equivalent of 80$ in regard to money. And the expansion? Yea… (for refference im talking about Romania, where Ron is 5x less than €\$, but payment is not 5x more) Im playing pservers right now and honestly having fun, but ive always wanted to experience newer versions other than just wrath. Will continue waiting for it to be free someday.

Not long ago my brother tried out the current trial of the game and upon learning he couldn't do the majority of things restricted he uninstalled deeming it too much an investment to simply see if the game has gotten better since he stopped playing in MoP

Actually from 1-20 you can do a lot just not endgame content as a certain type of player I have over 60 exalts on a level 10 toon and had fun doing it too... However the level 20 restrictions suck give them a month to get as far as they can and it would help the new players out to figure out what they actually want to do and buy so I agree with you!!!

I couldn’t agree more. I’m a first time player, i hit lvl 20 and i’m not sure if i want to spend money on a sub + expansion yet… the experience so far is okay… I’m sure im missing out on a lot of better content, but the free trial experience is a but of a turn off… Also don’t like having to pay to switch characters to a different realm to play there… runescape lets you switch servers endlessly for free… so if i have friends on different servers, i have to create a new character in each?

My assumption is having a limited f2p also helps prevent botting? otherwise I agree that their free trial needs an update.

New players would be teens who really don’t want to commit to a monthly fee. Blizzard really needs to give new players a better taste. I started playing last year with the free trial version and was about to dump it when a neighbor encouraged me to pay for a sub. I’m glad she did.

Nope now private servers are so polished my friends are finally trying wow with me and they love it.

An easy solution could be lvl 30 as level cap so that f2p can raid and experience the essence of the game.

I have 7 level 20s that I play for free. I used to participate avidly in the F2P PVP Veteran community but now I only run dungeons while I'm subbed to FF14. I agree with a lot of what you said but not everything.

I wanna try the game because of how everyone loved it back in the day but I feel like 15 dollars monthly subscription is a bit too much if you consider the other free mmo, and that you have to buy the game first for like 40 dollars it's too much for a 20 year old who is studying and doesn't have a stable income.

I always figured most, if not all, the restrictions were to discourage gold sellers and bots using the free trial to do what they do, which was a major problem. I agree that it doesn't give a good taste of the game, though.

the problem my brother is that - even If i can buy the game , believe it or not for me in my country and my currency , the game is too expensive, even for single purchase and then buy time in game from selling those tokens, i just want to have fun ಥ‿ಥ

This is least problem wow has now ,but it would be nice if it would allow for players to lvlup ther char to max and let them have week of free trial at max lvl with all freatures and after that time expired char will be deleted ,ofc there will be title to their name to let other players know that its free trial char (player will keep all mounts ,xmog ,pets ,etc he collects on acc ) I tried this free trial and tbh u get to lvl 20 so fast like its faster than it would be if u had subscription i had that feeling tbh Also i need to mention that i have been playing wow for like 12years but never on blizzard servers only private servers ,so i basicly know what im doing but new zones ,spells ,etc was bit confusing at first but it is pretty cool,only thing i wish wow do is make RBGS good so ppl actuallly play them

It's because blizz wants you to buy your friends a copy of the base game instead of relying on them playing a trial account. Every friend I ever got into wow I had to buy them the base game at the very least.

They should change it to level 40 because that at least gives new players plenty of time to get into the game, and would even repopulate older zones that don't get any traffic in retail

On starter trial back then u couldn't create a demon hunter are death Knight now u can and High lvl Zones where normally enemies will be high lvl now they are Cap to your Acc lv20. But still that isn't enough Just getting Gold alone So damn hard and slow and the new dungeons so yeah.😭🤣

My problem is .. i returned to WoW Saturday the 11th ( in doing so, i purchased the Dragonflight Epic Edition digital & the 6 month subscription with minipet & mount, and everyhing was great so far till the next day, Sunday the 12th, i get emails reading that what i paid for has been cancelled & didnt know why. Again i paid for both the epic edition & 6 month subscription and again it was fine till the next day, Monday the 13th. I get emails again reading my purchases have been cancelled & still dont know why. my funding has been taken out & not been reimbursed. Im confused as to what could be wrong. Im not purchasing anything again till i get any answers & my funds reimbursed, if ever. Im stuck with the trial edition, since it wont allow me to purchase anything. Is it my card, my account, do i need to create another account (WoW2 ??). Im stuck & have no idea why.

But max lvl is only 20. For casual player thats just some days, for hardcore gamer its like 1 day. I have tested different classes and have my paladin in 20 just few days. Im suprised how good and polished the game is. Im not really been a wow fan, i hate tab target, but now they have the cambat target system. i get the more action feel. atleast i whould hope we could reach max lvl ( not packs) so we atleast can truly test the trial. Me an my friend can play togehetter atleast. But i can just help him to lvl 20.

WoW free trial is a complete joke compared to FFXIV free trial.

I've been actually playing free trial for months, i just don't think buying the subscription is needed for me, i mean in trial i can Play with people just like in the full game, i can Explore all continents, i can create multiple characters. I played WoW for a time when I was younger from shortly before The Burning Crusade expansion until sometime during The Wrath of the Lich King expansion when I was ultimately burned out on the leveling grind for the last time. I held a subscription for a year without playing before finally canceling it. In hindsight, I wish I'd logged in one last time and took care of a few things. Namely, I ran a small guild on my Blood Elf alts called Blade Pact and it was wrong of me to abandon them. (Esp. considering that I'd made a big push to get a guild bank up not long before my final burn out. Hopefully they got a GM to replace me in the guild with someone else.) Lately though, I've been musing over the idea of returning (though to be fair over the years I've had similar thoughts but never this seriously), but btw WoW and XBL, I'm pretty burned on the concept of subscription fees, esp. these days as it's my own money. (Perhaps if it were paying for the playtime you used, I'd be more willing to pay.) Still, it is undeniable the place WoW had in my younger years when I was still self-closeted and not yet willing to accept my true self. It was an invaluable outlet for me to express myself, even if I was unwilling to admit it at the time. Hell, my very name stems from my time in WoW. The guild I was in, Silken Blades, was ran by a gal who's character was Lexie. It was a name that I had never heard of before at the time, and it stuck with me b/c I thought it was very pretty.

Btw you can'y even play PvP on Trial accounts anymore. Thats what I usually do, when im unsure if I wanna start on WoW again. When I figured out that I couldn't do that either, I just exited the game. Literally nothing to do as a free 2 play player, its so bullshit. The game is so expensive already, I dont know if I wanna start again, I usually play for a bit, and then I get hooked. can't do that now.

Will forever be a Guild wars 2 and runescape 1 and 2 player.... F2P the game has made me keep coming back to play and grind and enjoy the world. The monthly sub fee on WoW is outdated and a waste of a persons time and money. Not everyones rich let alone wanna spend dozens of money every month. Especially when a player has their life outside playing the game. Even more so..... why tf is the stupid level capped at 20......... WoW sucks and outdated and garbage if they dont learn from their competitors Guild wars 2 and Runescape. Like seriously? What would happen if the old players just retire from WoW well guess what Blizzard you wont be attracting new players with that shitty free trial.

This game will die if they don't make it F2P with micro-transactions. Because it's not particularly fun anymore, and it's not bringing in new players because no one wants to subscribe to a fucking game! It's a ridiculously outdated model that sucked on day 1 and sucks today. Which is why 99.9% of all games that had it, no longer have it. And to be very clear WoW knows this. You know how I know they know this? Because they just introduced "the trading post". Look closer, does it look familiar? It should, every single major Asian MMO has one, it's called the battlepass system. They give you 1 tier that's free and has some piddly loot that looks ok I guess but is nothing to brag about. And then a few months later they introduce the real meat of it "the paid tier". That one has all the real loot for the small price of X amount.

I played a lot of Warcraft but never got into wow. I was drawned to lol instead. When I finally decided to try wow (besides having to overlook the graphics) I actually almost fell asleep. I wanted to know why ppl like it so much when to me it looks like shit and feels like a snoozefest. I’m not paying monthly for something like that never lol.

the sub fee is what always kept me from playing wow, tried it for a year during the pandemic but i could not justify 180 bucks a year to have a second job, in top of that the ridiculous bot issues and transfer fees to get out of a dead server. Classic was great, but having said that. There were always better options.
