What's even better especially with ships with shorter range torps is nail them with a full broadside. And if they give you full broadside after dropping torps on somebody else, KABOOM. In T4 the Orion is especially good at this since you really want to shoot HE anyways

If I had to count the times the CA on my team would try to broadside-duel a BB at 4km range, while I'm zipping around in my battleship, HE loaded, cleaning up DDs....

Thanks! Aka torps have 3910 alpha damage, Shchors 27600 base HP and 10.5% torp damage reduction. So 6 torps would do 23460 alpha dmg, 2463 reduced by torp protection, doing 20997 effective damage (provided he's not running a torp protection module). Either way, he should be left with about 6k HP after eating those (and hopefully a flood). For a guaranteed kill, you'd need 9 (8 will do 27995 effective, so if he's running HP consumables and / or torp damage reduction captain skills, that would still leave him with a couple hundred HP, but you could then finish him off with guns easily). Torpedo protection isn't necessarily just about armour, but things like nets, torpedo bulges and bulkheads - anything to detonate the torp further away from the ship, and prevent structural damage and blowing holes into the hull. I'm not 100% sure on WW2 era torps, but usually the most damage isn't done by the explosion itself, but structural damage to the hull by the shockwave.

It's a Russian ship, so it would survive either way. (Don't mean any offence here, I hear about people talking about russian bias)

LOL don't worry, it'll come in time. 7k games in, and I'm still getting surprised sometimes. With practice, at some point, you don't need your full focus on aiming and the main battle screen anymore, and can start diverting some attention towards the mini-map and the meta. Are the DDs currently spotted? Do we know where they are? Which cap was flipped first in the game, most likely will have a DD in it. Am I alone on the mini map, or am I with support? Stuff like that. Again, it'll come in time.

If you can play it, its a fun ship. Have her too, but dont get to play her often. Biggest problem with it is the low amount of guns. Hope i could help :)

I don't have the Graf Spee personally, but when she goes on sale, I might pick her up, now that we have some more German captains available. Purely from the numbers, she's a difficult choice - the main guns might not be super effective against BBs, and the secondary count is a bit low for a secondary build. She does have torps, good speed and somewhat decent armour - as goes for most German ships, probably works best when played aggressively.

I have the Graf and she is too slow to be a cruiser and doesn’t have enough guns to be a battleship. Torpedo tube are way at the back and very difficult to use. She effectively has six guns on full broadside and in battle these may be pointing in different directions unless planned really well. I have had good games out her but would not buy her again.

But even though the torps are at the end of the ship you can almost fire forward with them.. and bbs are not your only enemies. You can easily kill cruisers and dds, and also bbs if you do it right.. i always pointmy nose at them and when i am ~2 km away i launch my first torps, go behind them, launch the other torps and then i move away while turning and shooting at them

ah, I wouldn't say that... these aren't tactics that I've come up with or that are in any way unique to my playstyle. Starting around probably tier 7 or 8, you'll see more and more players doing these things, so if you're in a DD, knowing how other ships avoid torps also helps you become a better DD player. Let's say, for example, you're sitting in your smoke in a USN DD, and there's a battleship coming close. You could fire your torps along the indicators, but what if he knows what he's doing, and will easily dodge them, since he's seen your smoke, and anticipated torps coming out? So maybe, as a counter, observe the indicator, since it'll give you a good idea if your target is sailing straight at constant speed, or is manoeuvring to throw your aim off. Stuff like that :) I'll be sure to make a video for the other side as well, i.e. how to hit with torps if someone is actively dodging.
