Yeah, pretty much. It's like six pellets of buckshot coming out of those mains most of the time. So it kind of forces the stereotype by design. The difference between a good Gneis captain and a poor one is knowing when to commit to the brawl. Which, in my experience, is a very fine and difficult line to draw and often has a decent element of luck involved. I don't consider myself an expert by any means, but for me it's about 50/50 whether I end up carrying a battle or get curb stomped in a crossfire.

Thought. World of Warships: Armada. Map is so huge it takes an hour to go from one side to the other. No heals but ships may return to captured points to repair, and to docks to replenish. 24 ships with a full third DD and two carriers. Must keep a ship in each of 7 capture points or lose them. Storms mean no planes, hitting islands causes severe damage, affects ship viability.

I suspect getting someone to stay put in a capture point and do pretty much nothing isn't going to work, since people will want to be doing something. And a full hour to get to the other side of a map? Might take half an hour before an enemy is shot at, and a lot less longer before teamkilling out of boredom happens. As for everything else, everything else seems to be reasonable enough.

For the first battle, what happened is made clear in chat. The enemy fleet deliberately scuttled themselves over something involving a clan boycott. One of the enemy players advised them to just sit and wait.

It wouldn't be Jingles without making yet another error lol. He claims Scharnhorst was the first BB to be added to the game with torps and then Gneis was added with its torps shortly after... As soon as he said this my mind went... Tirpitz?... Sure enough, went on the wiki to confirm Tirpitz was added to the game in 2015 with torps and Scharnhorst was added afterwards in 2016.

My First Kraken was in a Gneisenau. I shattered a 3 cruiser and a BB base push with the help of the CV. Blasted the Emerald on approach, torped but didn't sink the BB. Torped an other cruiser and pummeled the Kongisburg with mains and secondaries and finished her off with the resulting fires. I exploded to the BB which was finished off by the CV. Big damn hero in a blaze of glory! I was going to send it to you but the file would not play...

The thing with the Bismarck camo isn't that it is easily available. The issue is that along with that camo, you got the actual Bismarck ship unlocked and in your port. Which means that a lot of people who had no experience playing German BBs, got a tier 8 German BB they did not know how to play.

I like how on consoles we can actually tell if someone got banned just by keeping an eye on the individuals account, had someone send me a racist message on xbox,( BB Captain that was surprised that sailing in a straight line = Death by torpedoes -_-) afterwards I recieved a message from Xbox that they had taken action against someone I reported(Him), looked at his profile and boom he's been offline since.

I don't think this guy fits the stereo typical Gneissenau captian behavior. He just did a good job with all hte tools he had to work with: torps, main guns, and secondaries. As for being out of position, well, that's only because he cleaned up his side of the map. :)

One tiny remark about battleships using torpedos. The only effective use of torpedos by any capital ship in real life was the Royal Navy against Bismarck. HMS Rodney torpedoed Bismarck in May 1941, which was a bit superfluous because Rodney was already knocking great chunks off with her 16" guns at point-blank range. The Home Fleet Commander in Chief messaged the ship's company to that effect: " I think it is the only case of effective use of torpedoes by a capital ship."

Thank you for sharing two of the most absurd battles I've ever seen! Although I'd say Hunter does more than "make good" on the Gneisenau stereotypes: what he actually ends up doing almost always turns out to be the the right thing, well-executed. But... huge battle under the "no battleships" sign? Hilarious. Especially with his cheeky comment in chat, and his gunsight view of the sign... yeah, he knows about it.

You know that gneisenaus need to get within 10km to hit more than one shell and to 5km to maybe get three out of 6 shells on target. Besides, the Torps are the most reliable way to to seal damage at close range

I've recently come to understand the stereotype. Been playing the Gneisenau for a month now, and the Odin for a week. They are both severely underpowered, and need the torps to supplement their damage output. I don't like playing a BB as a cruiser, but you kind of have to.

The Bismarck skin with the gold turrets you have to complete the hunt for the Bismarck collection to get the skins the other makes the ship look all tore up from combat.

I had a glorious one. I sent torps blindly thru a gap between two islands. Just before they got there TWO destroyers (one from either direction) came into the gap. They could of easily avoided my torps, but in their maneuvers to avoid they ran into each other and there fore they both were at a standstill when My torps slammed into both of them and detonated, was very satisfying.

The Gneisenau isn't a battleship. It's a destroyer that has grown to full size alongside her sisters, Tirpitz and Scharnhorst. They laugh at Bismarck because he got into an accident with a cruiser and lost torpedo privileges.

To be fair to every Gneisenau an Tirpitz player: It is immensely fun to play that way, it is highly rewarding if it works, and it works if your team isn't camping at 50km away spamming HE, which, sadly, is the current Meta.

This is what sort of killed it for me. I loved playing German BBs and getting into brawls. But when you're a BB player who is basically functioning as a DD Leader, then you just get focused down in 2 minutes flat. A high damage 2 minutes, compared to your teammates......but when you're out of battles as much as you're in, the fun factor dies.
