An informative look back @SeaRaptor I think you ought to add the addition of "Superships" (aka Tier 11) to the milestones. I know you've mentioned it before in some of your ship reviews and such. The introduction of Superships has made the experience of playing a Tier 9 ship similar to the experience of playing at Tier 7. I see it when I play at those tiers and it's disheartening. Thought I'd toss that out there as I'm curious as to what effect adding Superships may have had on the trend. (Honestly, I initially thought "SS" was "Superships.") :-D Great job as always!

Excited about a new techtree: French heavy CC (Marseille line).

I am VERY glad you posed that question, "when was the last time..." There hasn't been a good ship line release really that I feel the community was excited about since the French Heavy Cruisers I think or Schlieffen line?
@SeaRaptor
@SeaRaptor 28 дней назад
The two battlecruiser lines - both German and British - definitely drove interest, I think. Beyond that, I can't think of too many.

@@SeaRaptor Yeah, same, I mean the IJN cruiser, ew, the EU alternate DDs not so much etc etc....

For me, only parts of lines tend to excite me, mainly when I recognize historical designs (even ones that didn't progress past paper). Those have been getting fewer and fewer as time goes on.

German BCs were my last exciting line release.

I find it interesting that the trend line of the 3 servers for the last 18 months all have the same slope. That tells me that the issues are global, generally affecting everyone the same. It’s not something that only affects people who don’t like CVs, for instance.
@SeaRaptor

@@Gladius-XC I concur with this assessment. All legacy games are going to struggle over a long enough curve of time.

thanks Raptor. I think 2024 data will be the really telling story of where things are at. Something like the Wisconsin dockyard is going to bump stats, but as per your comment I dont think it is only subs which is causing the decline. As others have said, the aggressive monetisation and significant reduction in rewards from things like the battlepass (which I know isnt called that anymore) I feel are all contributory. Introducing a t10 german premium cruiser and testing AP skip bombers is probably the most recent example I can think of where their ideas dont really seem to corelate to what the community is hoping the will provide. I could add a few more things (number of overmatch BBs, number of v accurate BBs etc) which are also not helping

Truth be told, I'm not sure overpowered battleships is a real factor here. I am well aware I'm an outlier in Warships in that I don't enjoy BBs very much. The big, over-gunned battleships are - I suspect - a rather large draw for most players to the game. (Which is fine, they're just not my cuppa.)

once again thanks for this, look forward to the next vid! For me the commonwealth cruisers had me excited, but before that... british battlecruisers maybe? It's been a while. I've been of the opinion for a few years that they were putting too much new content into the game at once (a lot of it monetised), and that it was going to affect gameplay (due to the new gimmicks required to keep each line interesting), and revenue for them in the long run. There are only so many whales, and a slower development pace, whilst making the most enjoyable game (inc compeittive) possible may have led to better player number retention, and prolonged spending on the game. Unfortuntely at this point I don't see the contrition from WG to accept these trends and try to address these problems and we are 'stuck' enjoying a dying game.
@SeaRaptor
@SeaRaptor 27 дней назад
According to vast swaths of people, the game has been dying for a long time. I've often refuted that statement; in fact, a conversation very nearly like that is exactly what started me making these videos in late 2019. With that said, I agree with you on the pace of content. Many years ago there were more than a few of us on the CC side that were attempting to express our frustration with how much was being released how quickly. The general sentiment was "too much content is never a bad thing", and from their perspective I can see the argument. That sort of thing works for, say, World of Warcraft after all, where you're trying to please a lot of different people each of whom is looking for something different out of the game (PvE, PvP, whatever). I've always felt that the crowd that enjoyed botes was different... that it had less time but more disposable income. A slightly older crowd that didn't mind the slower pace of play.

@@SeaRaptor I agree 'dying' is a bit dramatic, especially since it's the natural flow of online development cycles, if warcraft see's it then its no surprise it's in wows. I guess I use it from seeing the increasing gimmicks and monetisation involved in playing, coupled with a lot of matches being a lot less fun due to the meta that's been created (dumped on by cvs you can't deplane, shotgunned by subs = back of map sniping), I still do have fun, but it's definitely not as consistent as a few years ago, so I guess it's my engagement that's dying! And completely agree with your point on content. I guess it's different from game to game, but there is definitely that development cycle of beginning, middle, and end, where at a certain point the amount of new branches could have been scaled back, maybe replaced by prestige ship launches? Which would then allow for more thorough testing and feedback through CC's and maybe tried changing the meta from time to time to keep competitive lively. I find watching a match between two good teams a heady mix of chess and skill (chess boxing almost), I would have loved to see how they would adapt to different metas.

Thank you for this, I think the player base is dropping because the grind for ships has got harder and the price for premiums has increased a lot

Italian BBs and German BCs, and I was SEVERELY disappointed when the Italians came out. But recently, the aggressive monetization, gamble mechanics, poor rewards, and seemingly not listening to player feedback I believe really hurts this game, starting way before submarines released
