Hey guys, today we take a look back at the real steel USS Texas, her history before and after WWI & WWII, her career as a museum ship and her recent move into dry dock for some much needed repairs and restoration! A bit different video, but one that I believe is most fitting for today! Enjoy!

I'm thinking Pier 21, Galveston. Some want it in Beaumont, (namely Beaumont) but there isn't really anything else to do there. Galveston though? Well, there's a lot of other activities. So it can draw people in and they can then go do other things.

A really good video, it's rare to be able to talk about a real-steel ship that we have in game doing real-steel things so it's a really good video. Seeing modern footage of a battleship sailing is really great as well, and apparently the ship behaved herself, even with her rudder still jammed at something like 22 degrees. In fact, the ship was so keen to get out and into Dry Dock she came out of her moorings a bit too quickly and they had to stop and do a quick assessment, make sure nothing had gone wrong. If WG did another fund-raiser for Texas I would happily throw money at it. Again, this is an in-game ship that still exists and given Texas' age and that she's the only early Dreadnought/Super Dreadnought type that still exists, she's really important to preserve.

I agree with your assessment of Texas. She is hard to play as she's slow maneuvering, slow reload, slow traversal. Just slow. She needs some TLC, especially if the Texas is supposed to be a "premium" ship.

I went down to Texas City and took photos from the Texas City Dike as she passed down the ship channel. She's even more impressive underway than she is moored at her berth. I'll be going back down to get photos of her in the drydock shortly. It's truly been a once in a lifetime opportunity to see her underway...

I decided to just get Texas as she was on sale for 9.99, I know she isn't in her prime In the current state of the game, but it's the Yellow Rose, the Battlin' BB-35, it's the USS Texas. And that alone makes her worth the 9.99

First time I walked the decks of the Texas was 1957 as a 7 year old, I remember playing on the guns. I served in the Navy during Vietnam on the USS Sample DE 1048 as a Machinist Mate, main propulsion. I visited the Texas again sometime in the nineties and remember how bad she looked especially her engineering spaces, so happy she has gone in the yard for a much deserved refit. I do follow her, her future is bright. Thank you for honoring her. GO NAVY

Little bit of fun facts about the Texas, there is another Texas that is not mentioned by anyone. There is a pre-dreadnought called USS Texas built back in the 1890’s and was the first battleship built for the US Navy. One thing you missed was she was the first ship to carry a detachment of marines on board which I believe is standard practice for all US ships. She also the first battleship to became a museum and national historic landmark. Since she is a New York class ship, she was the first to be completed. They choose San Jacinto for very good reason, it’s where Texas finally gained it independence from Mexico with the defeat of Santa Anna. So, it would only make sense to have a ship named after the state on display there. On top of that it’s where our giant middle finger to Washington DC is located. Our monument is taller than the one in DC which breaks federal law. We just worked around it by adding the star after construction was completed. Last rumblings I heard was the state was planning on keeps Texas in Galveston after the repairs are complete, but they could change their mind at any time. Would be great for more foot traffic even though Seawolf and Stewart are not anywhere near the seawall where most of people go to. Still would be better than San Jacinto when there is only 2 ways of getting there either by Lynchburg ferry which is closed a lot of time or coming in the back way from 225.
@jaredthehawk3870
@jaredthehawk3870 2 года назад
Also the water in the ship channel is rather corrosive. Also not only is the San Jacinto monument taller than the Washington Monument, it's the tallest monument column in the world. However Washington can claim that their's is the tallest without any internal support. Washington and is made completely of stone. The San Jacinto monument is primarily reinforced concrete with polished limestone facing

Good history, Bro. One of the things I like best about the US line is the abundance of REAL ships. Probably won't get to see many of the survivors. I was aboard MO before her refit by Reagan (still covered with lots of 40mm); very cool. When she was decommissioned, a friend of mine worked at an ordinance disposal base, when a trainload of 100lb bags of powder came in. Somehow, a single kernel (roughly the size of your thumb) made its way to me.

I was able to visit Texas in 1986, just a couple of years before her first drydocking when she was in pretty bad shape, and then later in 2007 when I was doing a coast-to-coast drive to a new job. The difference between 1986 and 2007 was shocking. She was in much better shape, but the 15 years since have not been kind. On that same cross country trip, I drove right past Alabama on I-10 and have ever since kicked myself for not stopping for a visit. If I had realized she was literally right on my way I would have made the time to see her then. Hope I'll get a do over on her. She's on my bucket list.

Yeah they need to update that, no doubt, especially considering the USS Texas was the only United States battleship to not be under navy control, rather the marine corps manned and ran the ship entirely. One reason it was a test boat for a ton of different upgrades was due to the capabilities of the crew to man many different forms of tech and continued proving of said capabilities to handle different technologies at a moments notice. The fact they flooded the port side I believe (the side facing away from Normandy and france) to shoot further in land in order to destroy panzer nests miles away out of the normal range. Tell me that isn't the most marine thing you have ever heard of. The guys must've been like "I wanna shoot the tanks now, but they are too far away, here hold my beer, I'm gonna sink half a boat in order to do so"

I'm a fairly new player, and bought the Texas soon after joining. Being new I had not realized just how sucky they made her in game. I pulled her out yesterday in honor of her move to dry dock, and was reminded just how unequal she was to the other ships I've been playing, and how fast she gets killed. I'd love to see them drop her reload time to 25 seconds, just to give her a fighting chance. :-)

Largest surviving triple expansion steam reciprocating engines in the world. Only her and her sister New York, stored the main ammo with the points down in donuts on the deck. Then they were lifted by chain hoist to be loaded into the lifts. When you see the dents in the steel deck, from them being dropped,,,, it does give pause. And to date,,,, still the only example of an American Battleship to deploy the "gangsta lean" in order to put more warheads on foreheads. Salute to Texas, and those who sailed her and have kept her.

The thing about the TEXAS in game, SHE STILL HAS AA numbers just shy of the North Carolina and those guns WILL shred anything that flys over you. THE PROBLEM is her AA range is only 3.5kms, which means all the planes will attack you OUTSIDE of your AA range. To put this into prospective US Torpedo bomber Torps have 3.0km range. Texas could certainly use a buff of some sort, maybe extend her AA range to 4kms (not much but its something) or make her AA buff RELOAD faster and max out quicker (ya know when you do AA sector, it takes a few seconds to full SHIFT AA power, and takes time to cool down), in addition to buffing her reload.
@TheJuggtron
@TheJuggtron 2 года назад
Even with her AA I've had a t6 carrier give me a decent run. I made his aircraft pay but it wasn't as devastating as it should have been. A range buff and defensive AA would make her the no fly zone she should be.

I just had a look at the youtube videos of the ship moving and such on the khou channel and it is quite big. I am wondering how big it is compared to say the Missouri. I haven't ever really seen a battleship in real life so my understanding of these things is fairly limited, ie to just WoWs etc :~) Is it possible for you to do a line up of the different ships in say a training room going from T1 to TX or T11?
@henryherold4515

Missouri is much bigger than Texas. Almost 15 feet wider at the deck, around 300 feet longer, and almost exactly 20,000 tons heavier.

The Iowa-class of battleships is 270 meters (885 feet) long, is 33m (108 feet) wide and displaces 45,000 tons with a standard load or 56,500 with a full load. In contrast, the Texas is 175 meters (574 feet) long, 29 meters (95 feet) wide and displaces 30,240 tons with a standard load or 32280 with a full load. The Texas is still pretty big, though.

@deaks25
@deaks25 2 года назад
It's been shown that that is actually really destructive to a ship hull. Concrete expands and contracts a lot, and so puts a huge amount of flexing and pressure on the hull as well as having a corrosive effect on the steel due to it's acidic nature as well as allowing water to reach the steel. Apparently there isn't a lot left of Mikasa's outer hull below ground, she's essentially a building at this point. There are reason for her situation occurring, but encasing a ship in concrete is considered a terrible method of preservation today. The general consensus seems to be either a coffer-dam or graving dock arrangement as the water condition can be maintained in the ideal state (ie low salt, low tidal movement) while giving the hull the full support of water that it was designed for. Battleship New Jersey's RU-vid channel have done a number of videos on preservation methods and I think Battleship Texas's RU-vid channel have also talked about the options they ideally want for her.
@merafirewing6591
@merafirewing6591 2 года назад
Also I could imagine how expensive it would be to dig Mikasa out and rebuilding her hull to what it was. Concrete and ships don't get along at all.

Watching a Trenlass video I had a thought about how to stop cv's being so dangerous and might stop people complaining so much about them. If they were to introduce a debuff for the planes based around moral of the pilots. This being like when a flight comes over if they get destroyed before doing much/any damage the moral debuff starts ticking up slowing down the launching speed of the next flight. This would make cv's be far more selective and careful in how they use their planes. Thoughts?
