I'm suggesting a top 5 topic again..... Top 5 ships with the highest skill floor. I've been asking for this for a long time now, and keep hoping that it will eventually get noticed and picked up. Thanks!
I finally figured out the problem! The WoWs matchmaker puts Math on one side of the battle and SLM on the other. He is MAJORLY up tiered and the battles are always blowouts. My wife walks by and says "Watching the math mangler again?" and I say "Yes, we all love the guy"
@@kingofcastlechaos This is how they influence the game. And THE RNG- the king of shit. Many times I wonder why I am in the middle of the action in a DD, team far back and reds pushing like zombie ships on full power. Sometimes some player answer. They don’t do damage so they can’t push. Most of my games are like this, Shiki 1980Hp Dmg/salvo. Then I get closer, under 15km to take full advantage of her shells. 5-6k DMg/salvo. That salvo should break a broadside BB in half, but no. On rare occasion my plane is up and get 2-3Cit at 20km. But when that happens the game is over in 5 min, massive DMG in a very short time. The game is broken because of this shit RNG.
The Halford is great. How the hell are you guys trying to play it? It's not a damage farmer. It's a tactical support specialist. It also has the ability to bite back CVs that don't leave you alone. Those tiny tim rockets work better on CVs than any other class. 12k strikes very consistently.
Tbh i like the halford, using torpedos as area Denial, Planes for spotting and doing damage Early game, then going into cap contesting when able to avoid the enemy DD. Its not a Braindead DD like shima or a 1v1 Monster like Regolo/F.Sherman. Its a DD with Tactical use. One flank gets rushed by a BB? Use your planes to light it on fire and help the Flank. Having a Jäger or Ragnar Making your life a pain? Use the Planes. Having rushing ships at your side? Torpedos (few but kinda hard hitting). Guns are not good but can still lit a Fire in a Pinch. AA isnt good but enough to support other ships by its long range and The speed and Concealment is also decent.
I got lucky and got the Halford for free from a non-premium Freedom container or whatever they were called. And I only consider myself lucky for having it because it's now out of the drop pool. Even in PVE, I'd just rather the Fletcher. The planes are that bad.
when the Johnston came into the game and we had crates that could drop it, i told myself to go buy the Halford before opening the crate so if i had a lucky ship drop it would be the shiny new Johnston, but then i forgot to get the Halford, and yes i did get a ship drop, and it was the unwanted Halford and not the nice new highly wanted Johnston.....lol
Recently got Black as my second ever coal ship, was a bit hesitant because it's a lot more expensive than most other coal ships but definitely worth it. Wish it had slightly better AA though.
i like the halford as it is a great example of how wargaming has replicated history. A hybrid DD was an idea that the USN actually tried and decided that it wasn't worth pursing as it really didn't afford any real advantage over non-hybrid dds. As the halford is rarely seen in battle, it has show itself to be a failed experiment on the virtual seas as well.
9:42 Month or two? Not really. You are only guaranteed 400 coal per container. Meaning you are only guaranteed 1200 coal per day, that is 190 days or roughly 6.3 months to get Marco Polo. Even at best possible luck, if you somehow get so lucky as to get 3600 coal per day getting nothing else out of those containers other than coal, you are still looking at 63.3 days. The Battlepass, and brawls can supplement this, but no where near enough to make getting a high tier coal ship only take around a month. (For reference with the coupon those figures go down to 142.5 days on only what you are guaranteed, and 47.5 days on absolute best possible luck)
@@sealordmountbatten I mean you can make that argument, but I'd argue the only time that it would be possible would be during the winter snowflake event, because over the span of a single month you're only guaranteed 36,000 coal, but lets be generous and say you end up getting lucky and get 20,000 coal. You now still have 192,000 coal left to get. So not only would it basically need to be the snowflake event, but you would need based on last years snowflake event, ~240 T7 ships to get a high tier coal ship in a single month. More realistically ~270 T5/6/7 ships. So technically yes, it could be done. For a single event in the run of the year, so the statement that you can get one in around a month or two is really misleading. It's more realistic to say you can get 2 coals ships per year playing daily.
To piggy back of Mr. White, also it takes more than 2-3 games to get the containers UNLESS you have premium, run blue or red XP boosts, and RNG shines on you. If you are F2P or new, it will take longer to get that third container. I have premium, and usually use green boosters, and it takes at least a half dozen games to get that third one.
I guess you can get an extra 33k of coal per patch cycle from brawls. But that takes some serious time investment! I've found that 3-4 months per tier 9/X coal ship, 6 months per steel ship (using coupon) and 9 months per research points ship is a fairly typical schedule. This involves playing a lot of ranked and some clan for steel, and resetting a tech tree line every time there is a double reset available.
Shell out a few doubloons for 12k coal every so often in the battle pass. SLM didn't say it was free. You can get it in a couple months if you really wanted it via the many simultaneous events being run at the same time. You don't even need a couple months actually, you can get it in a couple hours nowadays. Regardless his point was it doesn't take very long so get off his ass.
that a solution or wait to past Xmas event for the value in token for xmas crate AND open crate before getting ride of it, or it gonna come back to haunt you XD
Carnot is amazeballs in ranked or brawl. Put the speed flag and ramming flag on her. Shoot at one ship, ram a second. Very hard ship to take down from the front
Research ships are less of a grind now that free XP ships are not a thing. I reset my USA destroyer line, because why not. It takes 710k free XP to re-reset this line. I have 635k now, so when the next double resets in 16 days I will have enough to make that 2X a 3X. And plenty of time to re-grind back to Gearing for the Christmas snowflakes event. Also I DO NOT buy Gearing unless I will have enough points for a boat. This is because it just consumes credits, which is the real grind in this game. I have 17 tier 10 tech tree ships researched but not enough credits to buy - not counting Gearing or the Pan-American battleships that are still in early access. So why buy Gearing when I can buy something else? Currently Gearing has an 8x multiplier on it, and in just over 2 weeks I can make that 11x. I have 49,007 research points now. So next double if I make it a triple that is another 32,130 for the entire line (3x10,200x1.05) PLUS the 8x on Gearing (8x6000x1.05 = 50,400). So 131,537 in total. Enough for 2 of the 3 tier 10 research ships I do not have, which will probably be Brennus and either Colbert or Druid. According to the math it does not matter if you wait for doubles or not, or allow your free XP to stack up until you can get multiple resets instead of just one. BUT it does matter for credits. If you buy the tier 10 ship, play it to get the research points, then reset the line again you are out at least 8.5 million more credits than if you just research the 10 and dont buy it.
I do a similar thing with the Schlieffen line, only buy the tier X if it gets enough RP to get a ship. But I regrind the lower tier ships with a mixture of fxp and playing them. I like playing this line, so it takes some of the pain out of regrinding!
Halford is super strong as a team support ship, you can drain the enemy dd smokes and Spot wherever you want. Sure dmg Potential is low but that isnt the reeason to play her. Just make the enemy dds suffer every match....
question for any good CV players out there. i have all but 3 of the campaign missions done and they are all 3 for CVs only. 1) 10 mil credits in US T-10 CVs, OK that's easy, just takes a little time. 2) 1 high caliber, again OK, just will take the right game and it's done. 3) this is the one i think will be hard, get the top XP on your team (win or lose) 5 times. what is the best tier 10 CV to use for this. i am thinking Nakhimov, but i am not sure. would any of the coal CVs work? (Malta or Max Immelmann) i can also use the T-11 super ships too. i don't want to play 1,000 CV games, so any advice would be nice, thanks.
3 can be done with any cv as long as you focus on team play. I haven't completed that challenge but have placed at the top multiple times thanks to combat scout. Just spend the first 8-10 minutes mostly spotting and attack for the rest of the game. It's what makes CV's game breaking currently.
Carnot really need a buff after the French Large Cruiser tech tree update. Azuma can farm like no tomorrow, Agir have very smash AP, Carnot is just... there. Not even better than the tech tree tier 9 French Large Cruiser, it is just a poor ship that got surpassed by power creep
Imma just put this here, Ägir is in no good shape either, it might theoretically have good AP, but it'll get farmed to death well before it gets a chance to use it.
@@DaneTheInsane675 Agir is a close brawl ship and he getting farmed at distance is fine. Suit her purpose of smashing people at close range with it's AP. Agir is design to get in close and do damage so I think give Agir terrible long range ability is fine. It's like use the hammer to hammer a nail, don't use it to screw a screw and it would served you well.
@@alexander3364 The issue is you'll never get in close before you've been farmed to death by HE spammers, it has BB fire time (60s) and is mega huge, bigger than some carriers actually. Its theoretically stealthy, but not really its on par with stealthy battleships despite being a large cruiser. its not particularly agile either. Most maps don't favour it.
@@DaneTheInsane675 Yeah, I mean she is not good but having a ship that is strong in one particular situation is cool by it own, not like all the OP fest that Wargaming has release recently
Would you do a low-tier premium ship review? I actually really enjoy the Katori and would love to get your opinion of her. She’s slow, but super accurate.
I have the Carnot (got it out of an xmas crate), i also have the Marco Polo. I’m thinking of getting the Lauria and the RB ITA ship once i have enough RB points.
yeah bud i dont wanna hear that after multiple cruiser lines have Submarine Radar, Almost every cruiser now has plane ASW, 3km distance requirement for damage, and many many other changes. Yes, they're annoying, but the only "broken" one these days is U-4501.
@@TheDgamesD the issue is not that they're overly strong, which most of them aren't even close to anymore, but it's the fact that they can just take one player and completely end that guy's ability to play if the sub captain is good.
@@LaurenzWenke I see it as no different to a destroyer, a battleship or any other such class. Battleships can smack you in one salvo if you position bad and catch broadside. IJN DD's are infamous for torpedo damage and slamming you with surprise torps, or torp rushes, and one launcher can oft end a players match. Cruisers can often sling enough HE to a target to continuously cripple and harass someone to death, Look to cases like Smolensk, Belfast (OG) and many more to see the case is plain. Are they annoying? yes, but they're no more bashing over the head than any other class.
@@TheDgamesD A battleship Slapstick you if you fck up. A dd kills you with torps if you run around in a straight line and thus fck up. I kinda agree with cruisers but even they leave themselves prone to crossfire etc. A sub sneaks up to you while you're trying to deal with all the other combat going on with for most classes no or very limited ways to spot them. So I think they are different and need some kinda rework. No idea tho of what would make them work.
Good video as always SeaLord! I have a suggestion for a video. I´ve noticed that WG hasn´t released a coal in like forever. It would be interesting to hear your opinion as to why. I have the feeling that WG isn´t going to release coal ships anymore. What do you think? Should people even bother accumulating coal anymore? Have a good day!
Jager was released for coal recently, and the tier 8 Russian light cruiser which is AP only, but whose name I've forgotten! Think there were a couple of others as well at lower tiers. But, it's true new coal ships have been a bit slow to appear.
Carnot can do well in ranked if played properly. It can be an infamous HE spammer too, not high fire rate but those shells hurt. But it's a French Azuma for all instances and purposes... It's not bad but just meh... Marco Polo is just a super Roma with 16' guns. As for gaining coal, with all the events every month, Brawls, Ranked, chain event and other monthly stuff, you can grind the coal pretty quickly. Three completed Brawl mission chains in a month give you 30 000 coal already.
Marco Polo is one of the only ships I've ever regretted getting... I could have just saved up a little bit and gotten the Napoli which turned out to be one of my favorite ships in the game. But nope, my first coal ship I bought this thing... You give up so much for a shell that isn't that great. Terrible accuracy, slow reload, bad secondaries, no smoke. The armor is ok but nothing special. This ship doesn't really do anything well that most other ships can't also do.
Regarding FDR - you may not know her full potential in torpedo dropping - or you might know it but omitted to highlight it here. Get the strike duration increase from the modules of the ship, make the strike early and you can use arrows or A/D to make ur strike do a sharper strike. I don't know how to explain it otherwise - there are videos out there. she can make a 90* turn in almost an instant and land all of the torps. as a cv experienced player - average of 500 battles in cvs i can tell you for sure if you like tanky planes and spotting for your team - being a team player while also dealing damage, FDR is the way to go. p.s. nice intro with the sub showing how busted they are.
I'm a bit surprised Gibraltar isn't on the list. Coal is pretty quick. I have more than half the coal tier Xs and a single RB ship (plus the leg mods are in the RB).
I have all T10 from RB (I get Bennus in 18 days after x2) , and I must say that Gibraltar is better that any ship on that list , if there was top10 maybe.
@@Huzarionix Oh it definitely has strong points. I think some others said this but for most players (especially without over-investing in the game) the RB points are a more valuable resource by a pretty significant factor. Worst ship maybe not, but worse choice than a subpar coal ship? I'd say it's worth consideration but I agree about the conclusion of "don't get these" wrt to the named ships. Gibraltar would honestly be fine if destroyers and light cruisers were more "meta" and so it had better targets consistently.
@@zetsubouda I have 91 T10 , in this month I have played , only GK in brawl , in shuffle Pommren , ranked Karl , Jäger & Benham , and in co op Weimar as there is German mission for commander , and I needed quick fires , I have 486 ship , but there is few that I play , I only play ships that I enjoy to play or must as is grind/regrind or some mission , from my point of view Sevatopol & Gibraltar are equally worthless , as I have better option , WG would need to make some event that prefer those ships , but if they made category soviet special/premium T10 cruiser , I have Smolensk , Stalingrad & Moskow and i would go with Stalingrad , same with UK category , I have Defence & Porthsmouth , Defence is strong & Porthsmouth is very underestimated but much stronger ship that Gibraltar .
@@Huzarionix Yeah, I'm honestly not that different. I have a few ships I really enjoy that I mark and some wildly large number of ships from crates, tier 1s etc that I just never touch. I'm just a little salty about the Research Bureau because I should have just taken something like Ohio (or any other option among the good ships there). Even getting multiple leg mods would have been better.
@@zetsubouda I was salty about RB , I have said I will never take part in that crap , but when I have unlocked all tech tree , I had nothing else to do , I have made to the date 61 regrinds 58 on my main account , and 3 on my second account , on my second account I have unlock Ohio , as he is great ship , I do only x2 there , next ship there for me will be Colbert as she is great too , and then Illionis again great tool , Vampire is good , Paolo can be fun to play , but I legendary mods , for Shima , C.Colombo GK & Z52 are better that other ships ... I am so pathetic I started to play on my 3rd account that I have Warspite there , and I have loot of fun there , is fun to go clanless undercover "noob" , with 200 battles and 67% wr , 100% play one ship , I could sell my main accounts and just play for fun there . o7

You should make a topmfige video on your best/worst top five videos.
The only thing I disagree about this list in Polo not being at the worst spot, I got it in a SupCon and I feel cheated, I'd rather have gotten deto flags (and I run ops where you can't deto), at least the Halford could be useful to a team by spotting crap (on top of that, at least she is a real ship, unlike everything else on this list as side from FDR)
Nice list, but i would place FDR on slot 2 or 1. With all the nerfs she got, not to speak about the general nerfs, she`s not worth this huge amount of steel anymore. As an early FDR owner i feel cheated by WG. She could be ok if WG removes the plane health nerf, but in her current state you have to play with tricks to save your planes. No pre-drop, just start your first flight and call it back, then start again with less planes in your squadron. If you fly into the AA of this crazy overpowered russian Super-DD, don`t know the name yet, you can lose nearly the full squadron before it gets out of range when you press "F" instantly. With FDR planes, you can`t avoid eating AA explosions, and they hurt very much if that DD is skilled for AA. Halland is just a toy against this, but eats much of your planes, too. The rocket fighters were pretty useless from the beginning, with her very long pre-warning mg-fire it is very hard to score a good hit, even a BB can dodge a full hit and eat only a few rockets with a low fire chance. After the nerfs, you often must use this weak planes in your rotation to save your other ones. Pre-nerf FDR did not need any airplane armor skills, now she needs them all. That`s huge change because WG took away her special ability to eat AA without losing planes fast, now with all 3 skills she can lose 1 plane every 3 - 5 seconds to a single Zao. On the other side, i never cared much about an opponent FDR. The torps are slow, so it is possible to dogde some or most of them in a BB by just changing speed. If attacked by the bombers, i just do a little rudder correction to avoid many bombs without turning broadside to an opponent BB. After the nerf, i don`t care anymore, a FDR attacks my Montana twice and then has lost so many planes that the player has enough. "But Yamato" i can hear you... Yamato has one of the best torpedo protections so you don`t need to fear that weak torpedos. The bombers do some fires from time to time, but not that much direct damage anymore. Any HE spamming cruiser is more dangerous than FDR bombers. Malta is a far better choice and much less expensive.
It looks like you title is a bit wrong. It should be resorce ships to get as last one. I got kitakami doing line resets and grinding those lines only with green boosters yet there only are 3 ships left for me to get same with steel. Funny enough i have more to get for coal😂
Ok, Sea Lord- hearing about coal ships- I think you're not being a math teacher is showing again. Let's say your goal is 228k Coal (There's a good number of T9s for that). The maximum amount of coal you can earn via daily coal containers is 3,600. Yeah, if you get _that_ every day for two months you'll be right there; but you've probably got better odds for getting a good ship from a supercontainer. For a more likely amount- let's say an average of 2k coal daily- you're looking at nearly _four_ months for your 228K. Not counting if you spend some along the way for something. For me personally the average is more like two ships a year. (Probably what WG intends it to be.)
One of the more 'meh' resource ships that come to mind is the tier VII American cruiser Flint. Not having examined it too closely, it was very nearly my first steel ship, before it was removed and put back as a coal ship. I wanted the Flint, because the Atlanta was so much fun. I did not get the Flint, until after the commander rework. Atlanta was given a range buff, but the Flint did not. My Atlanta has accumulated 2.38 million xp, while my Flint is at 0.08 million xp. The Chumphon is a tech line ship that combines greater range than the Atlanta with the smokescreen and extended torpedo range of the Flint, for only the cost of a slower reload. What really hurts the Flint is that battleships with secondary builds that very nearly outgun the Flint.
Do you have a guide to maximize your coal income? Believe it or not I’m a new player, been playing for 2 weeks now and I got 58k coal from free containers, missions, tasks, you name it. I would have more but I spent some on bonuses cause I didn’t know any better. Probably spent 30k or more haha. But yea it’s definitely possible boys I mean shit. 2 weeks? 80k? I understand it’s mostly newcomer stuff but that’s not too shabby. 1/4 the cost of a premium tier ix ship. Just my 2 cents from a new f2p player
Good to know! I wonder about some of the ships if people just haven’t figured out how to play them. Playing a ship wrong is a miserable experience. I am a shameful Marceau player, which by most accounts is a great ship. Yet I love Dutch cruisers, Omaha, and some others that people typically ignore.
@@xPureNRG007x I mean it's a cruiser. Get yourself in a spot where a BB has a good shot on you, then you will be screwed. But I think the Carnot is fast for a cruiser, while not the most powerful secondaries, they do have good range. So if you encounter DDs....then you gonna have something for them with decent reload speeds. Main battery reloads are pretty quick. But it is a cruiser, so just play smart. I would say an Agir would be a better one to get. But between say a Carnot and Azuma, I have and like both. I don't feel you can go wrong with either.
Your vid "In Defense of Marco Polo" from about 3 years ago lead my unfortunate purchase of her. So with buffs she's now one to avoid. Ok. I know, game has evolved and changed but heed the advice, captains, and unless self-flagulation is your thing avoid her like the plague.
@@sealordmountbatten Yes, agreed. But my remorse was almost immediate with her, the long reload causing the most pain. I do prefer the Lepanto, she is a very solid BB imo and tech tree to boot.
I dont think Sevastopol and Kron considered “Large Cruisers” considering that I think the terms Large Cruisers are often use loosely. Takao Class, Mogami Class were considered Large cruisers. This also apply to Fast Battelships too. It was used loosely. Believe it or not Queen Elizabeth Class were considered Fast Battleships? Because she was pretty much faster than the other Dreadnoughts at her time. 25 knots were insanely quick for traditional 20 knots for BBs. If we apply Fast Battleships from Queen Elizabeth to Iowa. So this means Nagato Class and Yamato Class were consider Fast Battleships. Not to mentioned Yamato achive speed over 27 knots almost touching 28 knots which is the speed of South Dakota and North Carolina. Which means Yamato isn’t slow by any means. Anyway, it is more confusing now what is Large Cruiser, what is Large BBs and what is Battlecruisers. It sounds like I made this up but if Soviet considered Stalingrad Battlecruiser. Sevastopol and Krons should be Battlecruisers too. If we use the terms of each nations. We can comes up with Azuma and Yoshino were not Battlecruisers or Large Cruisers.. Alaska Class were Large Cruisers. Duncan and St. V are Battlecruisers. (Hood too) Graf Spee is Armored Cruisers. Stalingrad, Sevas and Kron are Battlecruisers. Cherbourg, Brest and Marseille are Battlecruisers.
ah yes the debate in every SLM video comments section about what constitutes 'large cruisers' Ships that are classed as cruisers in-game, with battleship-caliber guns (i.e, 11 inch or bigger) are called 'large cruisers' or 'supercruisers'. They are usually also given battleship fire burn time (60 seconds). This does include the Azuma and Yoshino because they have 310mm guns, if I remember correctly. Ships that are in-game classed as battleships, with increased speed and less armour/HP for their tier (Schlieffen line, St. Vincent line) are called battlecruisers. Whether the term is historically accurate or not has not a whole lot to do with it. Also, not sure where you're getting 'Takao and Mogami class were often considered large cruisers' from - the Takao class was literally built as heavy cruisers under the Washington Treaty, and the Mogami class were built as 'large _light_ cruisers' designed for easy conversion to what would be considered heavy cruisers under the treaty, in order to circumvent it. They were a bit larger than their US equivalents, but not enough to make them 'large cruisers'.
@@taiko1237 Ah yes the icon debate. Where it isn’t even consistent. Some CLs use Drop Depth Charges and some use Air Depth Charges. Or a Light Cruiser have more HP than Heavy Cruiser. When I definition ships I used to respect on what they were called in each country. So I wouldn’t call Iowa Battlecruisers. But Fast Battleships. And I always call Amagi Battlecruiser not Battleship. The whole argument of “Conversion” or “Upgrade” is totally invalid. Amagi Hull still a Battlecruiser. There’s no Battlecruiser converted into Battleships. Even Kongo armor still weaker to handle its own shells. Renown conversion are pretty much more Battleship like than Kongos do. Despite, Renown and Kongo were the same Generation (Gen2) of BC. Hood are considered Battlecruiser despite her armor plate are pretty much the same effectiveness of Queen Elizabeth Class. There’s no such thing every ship with 300mm considered Large Cruisers than US made up the class specification because they just not following British principles. Even the description of those “Large Cruisers” were have a definition of how the ship was specify as. Stalingrad are Battlecruiser Project and should be called as such. You can tech able to say Azuma as Large Cruiser because the development was to counter Alaska class. But Japan were calling these project designs as Super Cruisers. Panzer Schiff are a weird child among the Cruisers. It isn’t considered Large Cruiser or Heavy Cruisers. British calling it Pocket Battleships but tbh. We can call it Armored Cruisers considering than Panzer Schiff are basically means Armored Ships. Hence it is a Cruiser ship. It can be considered Armored Cruiser.
Drachinifel made a video discussing these terms, and basically got to "it is not consistent and depends on whose terminology you use and from what time." And here we have commenters who understand the subject perfectly and will tell us The One Right Answer. 😊
FDR is not worth it ? R U kidding me? have you played her recently? omg .. U can easily do 130+dmg each game these days.. [30k dmg on Yamato with bombs? no problem mate!] + for Carnot[NOT!] - she should be on the number 1! worst tier IX in the game !
Ye be a far better CV player than I. I feel like I have been on the receiving end of your FDR skills, I have certainly seen them doing this post nerf, but I cannot come close. So as not to punish my own team, FDR stays in port.
@@xPureNRG007x Thank you very much for your kind words. I will be honest with you, about 1 year ago playing FDR I was doing much lower results than now. I feel that there is something strange because some time ago FDR planes were shot down more often than now. Now playing FDR I feel like my plane groups have more HP than before and it is easier to play than some time ago. That is why I am doing much damage lately than before and I have a very good average. I am a player who mainly plays on aircraft carriers and I will say that Saipan is the best aircraft carrier on tier VIII. My average is 125k per battle in today's meta where Saipan is considered a weak aircraft carrier. So to be fair with you FDR in my opinion is still better that Malta for example. But it all depends on the player base. Thank you much for your opinion ;)
