I could not be more happy about this game. As a veteran that spent part of his time in the Navy and who's father, great grandfather, and a few others had been Navy men this looks well researched and like great fun. Hopefully I can get in on the Beta.

Not quite (historically at least). Your analogies for BB, CA, CL, and CV are fair enough, but DD is incorrect. The name "Destroyer" is understandably misleading. DD is basically jack-of-all-trades, master of none. Their primary duties were anti-sub and mine-sweeping. As I doubt either of these will be present in this game, they'll probably default to their support role of anti-air. Depending upon how Wargaming manipulates torpedo characteristics, they may actually gain usefulness from that. The closest naval equivalent of a Tank Destroyer would be a Sub, which, again, won't be in the game.
redslate32 i follow the official forms very closely. what seems to be happening is we are getting 2 types of destroyer, Destroyers that provide greater air protection and destroyers that focus on torpedo attacks. with 4 to 5 torpedos being able to take out a bb and most high tier dds carrying multiple torpedo tube launchers. its very possible well see dd players adopt hit and run td strategies
Ross England Got it. I'll have to read up on the development of this game. I play Tanks currently, and would be interested in the naval aspect. Hopefully it doesn't diverge too much from reality. That was the main problem with Warplanes.

Maybe, but I doubt it, seeing as its a hybrid, in game would be unstoppable (i.e., Armor+armament of battleship, aircraft capability (Means it could attack from long distance with planes and if you could try to get close the guns would get you))
***** it's been 4 years+ (going on 5 in October) Right now it's just a pipe-dream. Beta *was* said to be coming out in December but how true that holds up is something only Russia knows.
I kind of agree, it's been so long with this one that it's getting increasingly hard to stay interested. We don't want it early, but if this was a 7 year dev project wg probably shouldn't have started marketing it 5 years ago.
closed beta should be around 2015-16 and open beta a little bit after that. so around 2016-17 is might when its open. if they dont hit a major roadblock. which could add up to a few years before release.
Kougeru you should know by now that even clans can't help you grind out a vehicle in public matches since you only ever get a platoon between 3 and 4 members in a 15 person game. Yes you get teamwork from your platoon-mates but everyone else? you might as well give a Bull a turret on top and piss it off in front of landmines. :( Clans are good for nightly missions IF you have the high tier vehicles. if not... you're stuck without help in the random matches.
RazgrizKnight I can't say it's 100% true but people with 70% win rates say that it's their platoons that change the match. Their win rates speak for them, since no matter how good I seem to do it's just seems impossible to win 3vs10 or however many my team fails to kill while my platoon is kicking ass. Of course they might all be using really OP tanks to get high win rates. There's also tank battles you could try to make good complete teams with. I never had any luck with that..always some kid (literally) bossing everyone around. TLDR: Yeah, most people suck at this game. And all games really. Huge luck factor
Kougeru Clanned players in platoons are usually on Teamspeak with maxxed out tanks (equipment/crews/camo/etc.) and being on voice coordinating is a huge advantage. 2 of 3 of team actually coordinating and working together can make easy work of most pub tanks working alone while getting shot by 2-3 tanks from different directions. Although not in wot, early in the war the Germans were the first ones to use radios in tanks because they realized what a huge advantage it was in real combat, and same is true for Teamspeak (or Vent, your voice chat of choice).
Technically with battleship gun barrels range from 6 to 14 barrels. Gneisenau is the best example, with its design, it had 9 283 mm guns like the Scharnhorst, but then it was upgraded to 6 380 mm guns
If they add submarines, they will need to equip planes and destroyers with depth charges (forgive me if those were not invented yet in WWII, if they were not, then submarines should be limited to only spotting enemy units (but cannot attack them yet) and will have a timer to resurface for a bit for "breathing or filling more oxygen" if that makes sense. They can attack from underneath, but they will need to be near the surface for balance and have some kind of bulge in the water while launching torpedos. Ships can engage them since shells, i believe, still have some kind of velocity when hitting the submarine that is almost popping above the surface, if the player can hit right.
Still think it's dumb that they didn't add submarines. Can only hope for that later on. "But they're over powered" Not really. During the early years of the second world war they where a BIG threat, but then the hunters turned into the hunted and submarines were a death trap to stuff like submarines. Bombs thrown overboard from ships caused massive damage even if they didn't hit the submarine. Make them slow moving units that pretty much any ship can catch up to and bomb with their sub ability: depth charges They were also hunted by airplanes. The aircraft carrier could be one of the biggest counter to them if they are discovered. Listen Gaijin, I don't care if you make them countered by everything in the game, I would love if you could add submarines to the game. It doesn't fit the PR stuff you've been running with, but you could use that for when you introduce them! You didn't show them because they are SUBMARINES! They're supposed to be hidden!
YT PLAY Right! I think Subs were unuseless in this game! Subs of WW2 were made for hit an run attacks on Cargo Ships! Destroyers can fire 15 Torps at once! The Most Subs of that time had just 6 Torpedotubes in Front and maybe 4 in back also they are very slow and get destoyed by one hit from every other vessel! So they much weaker in speed, armor and firepower than Destroyers! Ok you can Hide but if you start attacking with a Sub you become disclose and a eays target! You can also play a rubber raft instead of a submarine! So everybody whos crying "why no submarines"... Go play Silent hunter Online!!!
From what we can see most ships in the game if not all carry depth charges and destroyers have the most. The most likely reason for adding this is not for looks but for use on a submarine added later on.
I would love to see some game play footage. Right now there are none, I just want to see the game play so I would know how to act in a battle (and see some awesome ships)
It is possible to create a versatile warship but all of the hulls need ridiculously powerful engines that can reach at least 45 knots. Also the ship may need 2 runways to offset the balance. Best choice is to use a battlecruiser hull with a medium carrier hull. Max armament(15 inched), 60 plus AAA guns, powerful radars and anti torpedo blister.
A question people, please answer. Are we going to have Bismarck class battleship, or hood ? Or there will be only USA and Japan ships ? I hope we will have british and germans at least .
I thought a patrol boat was the smallest naval military ship? 30 foot patrol boat with 20mm mini guns, torpedo launcher, depth chargers and .50 caliber machine gun, 7.62 machine gun and 40mm grenade launcher. Top speed 45 knots. In WW 2 it was called a PT boat. Great ship to launch against heavily armed enemy cruisers and submarines.
I really, REALLY want to see the german h-class battleships in this game. I know they won't be because they would be op (The H-44 design was designed to be the perfect battleship) just like the super yamatos... *sigh* a guy can dream though...

After spending my entire life fascinated by planes and ships, I am glad to see that a sizable group of gamers are going to get a game I've played since 2004 and start comment wars on every video featuring a naval battle in World War 2. Just....fucking jubilant... : \

Actually there was a ship than got almost everything the Bakú class cruiser carrier arm with a small platform for vtol planes and missile launchers as first defence measure

I'm wondering if I could customize what planes I want on my aircraft cairier. Like if I'm playing as Kreigsmarine would I be able to put on my ship BF109's or some ME262's or a couple of dive bombers?
It's in presets, early-war and late-war presets, most likely. But since Germany never had any Carriers, they will most likely have Stuka/BF109s as thier planes. Don't know about late war, though.
Well I would imagine it'd would be like buying ammo for an atilery tank; normal ammo would be bf109s special ammo would be dive bomber(high explosive) and premium would be me262 and same goes for the other nations just their aircraft. I would just like to see some of their blueprints placed into the game or unfinished projects.
Yeah there was a ship that could do everything, it was the Kiev class especially the Baku which had anti-ship missiles which is basically like long range artillery, good speed, anti air missiles, torpedo tubes, 100mm support fire guns, anti sub rockets and fixed wing aircraft. Where are frigates, corvettes, amphibious assault ships, missile boats, patrol crafts, torpedo boat, submarine, Escort Carriers, Submarine destroyers and many more must be included.
frigates, corvettes, torpedo boats will not be implemented (i guess they will be hard to balance against destroyers, no one wants to be the fodder, its an online game afterall, everyone wants to win). missile boats? no, it doesn't fit the timeline. patrol crafts, they are in tier 1 (no destroyers there), but no one wants to stay in tier 1 for too long. submarines will not be implemented, again, balance issues, once spotted every DD, CV, BB, CL, CA in the vicinity will start to unload their payload and no one wants to be at the receiving end with a ship that has less armor than a DD, and its dead slow, the game only lasts for 20 mins, and there are no cargo ships for them to target, only a section of the sea filled with angry warships and planes, not an ideal place for a submarine. CVEs (escort carriers) are in the lower tiers (4-5).amphibious assault ships, in WW2, CVEs (we already have that ingame), landing ships, and troop carriers perform the duty of amphibious assault ships. also, the ship doesn't fit the ingame timeline.
@Little Gamer actually, destroyers are the counter for torpedo boats, they were used to protect the capital ships form these nimble PT boats. the name destroyers came from torpedo boat destroyers.
They will not include submarines because it would imbalance the game. A submarine would be overpowered and destroy ships from the safety of being underwater, but when it needed to surface, it could easily be destroyed by any other ship type in the game.
necromorphassasin yeah, but most ships have depth charges. Landing one directly on a sub will undoubtedly destroy it. Landing them around the sub will cause damage twice-fold as on the surface due to the compression the sub faces. And when submerged, they have a very low speed making them easy targets when detected. They are fragile, slow, little things with a powerful attack that could potentially be unseen. But I don't see an advantage that'd make 'em overpowered. I feel they'd be the Tank Destroyers of World of Warships.
