18 builders spent 4 days attempting to break the World Record for the tallest tower made of wooden toy blocks! This 25m-tall (82ft) tower contains 100,000 Kapla planks and was designed by @KaplaBen, who organized this world record project. Watch the behind the scenes here: • *Collapsing* the World...
Watch the official falldown edit on @KaplaBen's channel: • The World Tallest Kapl...
Special thanks to Kapla and Olympia London for supporting this World Record attempt, Anna and Richard for the event organization/logistics, and the film crew (Robert, David and Tristan) for capturing incredible shots of this project.

Amazing video! It was an honor to work with you, KaplaBen and all the other talented builders on this project. You did a great job highlighting the challenges during the construction, especially the lift door falling onto the structure and the blocks buckling in the latter half of the tower. This was certainly one of the hardest builds I’ve ever worked on and I’m glad it worked so well.
@deirdrehbrt
@deirdrehbrt 10 месяцев назад
When you are using wood (especially unsealed) and build that high, you will see movement because wood changes dimensions as it absorbs or releases water with the air in the environment. In dry air, wood will shrink, and in humor air, it will expand. In a tall tower like that, especially with untreated wood, those changes in humidity and temperatures will be noticed. Your tower was a hygrometer. Beautiful episode!

WHAT an incredible design! I love the spiraling relief! Knocking something as beautiful as that down seems like a tragedy. The accuracy with which those wood blocks are cut - perfectly flat, with perfect 90 deg sides - is impressive. With that many blocks, tiny errors could add up, and the thing could end up leaning just a bit.

I think maybe the wood itself was actually starting to deform and maybe humidity was causing some swelling effects as well. Something like that probably.
@davidmartensson273
@davidmartensson273 11 месяцев назад
I was going to suggest the same, humidity could both deform and increase weight triggering the effect and if there was a slight draft the humidity could be more on one side preventing it from evening out.

The tower was designed and built by the KAPLA Lyon Center. It took 16 hours to build and used 9,384 KAPLA planks. It is 18.40 meters (60 feet 4.41 inches) high! The structure was built next to the climbing wall in the Azium leisure centre. "KAPLA" is an abbreviated form of the Dutch phrase "kabouter plankjes," which means "Gnome Planks."

I completely agree! Whenever you see someone doing something they truly are passionate about, they are spreading their joy and love to others. Accomplishing goals that we set have a way of inspiring others to do the same. It creates strong connections and bonds, it creates community. Within communities we grow in our ability to empathize and be compassionate towards each other. I would argue that if every single living being on this earth followed their heart and found where they felt most at home, that would solve a great deal of the world's problems. its crazy how much architecture goes into this, imagine you need to calculate the weight that is pushing on the bottom of the tower, its crazy that this is possible. great work its so cool

The mixed feelings when watching it toppling down made my heartbeat running wild and inconsistent, with many thoughts flashing through my mind.

Greatest artistic feat of their lifetime 😂 playing jenga must be a close second. This reminds me of dominoes creations. Decent job and looked great.

The shifting of the entire tower is likely due to either "working" of the kapla blocks due to changes in humidity or compression of the most heavily loaded blocks at the base of the tower. Most probably a combination of both.

That partial knock-down by the lift safety-rail must've been a certified "A LOT OF POO SHOT OUT THEN!" moment.

I keep saying I’m not interested in this channel but it continues to pop up on my homepage. Nothing personal.
