Glad to finally have this record. Six months ago I never would've even dreamed that I'd be playing this category, but after a few weeks of on and off grinding we finally got it!
Agreed. Usually any% runs use some glitch to skip big chunks of the game, so it's nice seeing 100% runs of games you love done quick, efficient, and in full, none of your favorite parts skipped!
@@alternateenergy9685 Technically this is even better than 100% because for that category, they don't try to collect every dollar possible, just enough to get the best ending. Max% leaves no stone unturned; pretty much if Luigi was played by Mr. Krabs lol
An amazing run. Also a tactic to get a gold frame on Bogmire: His rating isn't done until you collect the key, so if you take some damage, when you leave the battle, you can smack the tree in the lower left and get a large heart which should give you 100 health, if not close to it.
I've been speedrunning this game for over 10 years and never knew that. If that's true, that should be the case for every boss ghost because there's always a large heart near where you fight them.
@@HDSpeedruns It might work. it's been ages since I've played it, but I only remember it being a thing I could do with Bogmire since I remembered having a hard time beating him no damage and in my frustration after the fight, I smacked the tree and got the heart before the key and it counted as me "finishing" the battle with full HP and giving me a gold frame. I have an original GC NTSC release copy of the game, so that would be a good version to see if it works.
@@Venkintus Yes the dresser does, however something in my memory says that the check for when the boss battle is over is checked properly with the other bosses, meaning once Luigi is in the room again, it's recorded his HP and thus the rating. Bogmire may have a glitch where it doesn't count it until you grab the key. If my memory isn't faulty, then it is likely because that unused "L" enemy in the game files was the original Bogmire design and when they replaced him, didn't correct the damage check location.
To know every single scrap of bill for this run, it's honestly a lil' scary, especially the dread of accidently missing one stubborn coin or bill that got caught behind
Would a better time in this category be limited by money stash RNG or is there some further optimisation possible (except for king boo one cycle)? Also great run! super satisfying to watch luigi attain Scrooge McDuck levels of riches. Also how do you kow if your current amount of money in the max you could currently attain, i find that difficult to do myself.
Admittedly I had never heard of your channel until today; I was actually looking to see if someone had done a TAS of Max% yet when I came across this video. And here I was wondering if Pablo was gonna take this record from Skozzy first...well done, sir!
Words cannot express how happy I am you uploaded it without commentary. No one wants to hear nonsense rambling and muffled clicking of a controller when watching a masterpiece like this. And it was a masterpiece with high rewatchability content. Thank you for breaking the curse with your awesome video
working on a "Luigi's Mansion Halloween Special" (I recorded on Halloween and still editing down a 3 hour video lol) and It's something I look forward to every Halloween, as Luigi's Mansion was one of my first games I've ever played so it really does hold a special place in my heart, this is an amazing run, and hey, congrats on the WR! edit: 1:41:35 I'm sorry, THERE'S A MIRROR IN THAT ROOM?????
This is awesome! Quick question: I was under the impression that if you need to reset an object that gives money you have to move at least two rooms away to reset. At 47:35 you're able to get coins from the drawer in the billiards room. Is this because you went past some kind of boundary line in the hallway?
Yep, you got it right! You can notice when I move down the hallway the camera angle pans as well. This indicates that I've crossed a boundary line and have moved into another section of the hallway, and for whatever reason it resets the rooms even if you haven't moved two rooms away.
I appreciate it! And yes, there's a big difference distinguishing the two versions. If I'm not mistaken, every mouse and speedy spirit drops a silver diamond which has a value of 2 million, and the max amount of money you can get in that version is 186.44 million, compared to NTSC's which is 142.39 million. The world record for PAL Max% is 3:32:33, but it's nowhere near as optimized as NTSC and that's most likely attributed to the fact it's 10 times harder and you lose so much more money when you take damage.
I’m not too familiar with the mechanics of Luigi’s mansion, but why is it that none of the portrait ghosts drop poison mushrooms for you? It might be a Mandela effect but I remember them dropping them while you try to catch them. I’m guessing the obvious answer is that they drop one if you pull in a direction that isn’t actively dropping their health but I’m curious what the answer is :) awesome run btw, it’s astounding how much skill this takes
It’s based off how long you’ve been vacuuming them. The hidden mansion star makes you vacuum faster, so they never have a chance to spawn mushrooms. ;)
I might be off my rocker, but I swear remembering that it was impossible to one cycle the area bosses even on hidden mansion. Was some tech discovered or something?
It's always been possible to one cycle Bogmire and Boolossus, so long as those fights are optimal. Area bosses are on a designated timer once you start sucking them up and they're forced to break off once the timer is up. We found the King Boo one cycle in December, 2020 and we found out if you shoot his head with a spike ball once King Boo's already out, then it starts the timer over, giving you just enough time to damage him for all 500 HP. Chauncey was the most recent discovery in November, 2022, and by letting go and repressing R on the frame after he breaks off you'll regrab him. Chauncey and Bogmire are pretty identical in the sense that you catch them similarly to other portrait ghosts. The only difference being is Bogmire's timer is longer than Chauncey's, which is why we've always been able to one cycle Bogmire pretty easily. Hope this explanation helped!
I do have a question about this type of run. is there a listing for the number of coins, gold bars, etc that you should have at certain points in the game and when you're hit, does the exact number of coins removed actually land on the ground?
I probably dont know what im talking about but i notice you go out of your way to get a ghost that drops a bunch of money at 15:14 in the basement. Wouldnt it make more sense to get this ghost when the power goes out since you have to go to the basement when the power goes out anyway?
Unfortunately that was as big as I could make the map given the dimensions of my layout. Here's a link where you can download it directly and check it out for yourself www.speedrun.com/lm/resources/cesya
