Amazing, Novikov proves that size isn’t everything. The smallest man in the finals, 6’1 and barely 300 pounds smashes a world record that stood for 30 years. A true inspiration

I mean size in deadlift favlours the smaller competitor. Deadlifts aren't relative to height (e.g the weight is always 25cm off the floor in a statting position, not like 1/8th of the competitors height). The smaller you are, the more of a "rack pull" you do.

@@J_W_R_I this argument is so old and so dumb. Taller people are always the strongest in the world and lift the most weight. If there was a weight cap, shorter people are stronger, because they have higher relative strength, but for absolute strength it’s always the tall people who win. Why is it virtually everyone who deadlifted over 900 pounds is tall?

Eddie Hall explained why Novikov did so well in this , because he’s not the best at standard deadlifting, compared to a lot of the guys in that lineup. He said it was because of his long arm length and height, giving him an advantage.They stood side by side and his arms are slightly longer than Eddies, which Eddie was surprised at! But that doesn’t discount the fact he still had to be hugely strong to pull that weight.
@filipraos8072

Not really, its because he focused on partials. How are long hands bad for regular but good for partial at the same time?
@kristofevo
@kristofevo 3 года назад
Filip Raos Long hands🤣 My friend i never said anything about his hands! If you think about it...the longer your arms the shorter the range of motion you have to travel to stand up straight with the weight..Plus Novikov is not so tall, in strongman terms so not so far to travel.I think Eddie meant that his height to arm length ratio is what suited him so well in this event, as Caron, Shaw and Tom can deadlift more than him in a standard deadlift and Jerry Pritchett massively out deadlifts him in the standard deadlift. Eddie did an interview with him and he explains it better than me and when you see visually, what he’s talking about , its easier to understand.

However, lately over the past years like since 2017/18, he’s really gone down a lot. Probably because of the hamstring injuries and we just don’t really see him train heavy heavy deadlifts anymore in his videos. @tattermounger
@tattermounger 2 года назад
Lots of misinformation here so I just want to make a few things clear. There are a lot of factors influencing a deadlift. 1) Being tall is a disadvantage as you have to pull the weight higher, BUT... 2) Taller people can pack more muscle in their frames, allowing them to become stronger, BUT... 3) Having a lot of fat also helps in increasing strength and typically very tall people can put on less fat before having serious health issues than less tall people 4) Having short legs and long arms ALWAYS helps in the deadlift and is THE SINGLE BIGGEST FACTOR that determines how much you can pull relative to your weight 5) This is not a conventional deadlift and the starting position is much higher, thus being short and having long arms/short legs is DISPROPORTIONATELY advantageous when compared to the conventional deadlift 6) People can just happen to pull more than they are usually capable of if they are in peak physical condition, have the right mental state or perform the lift under "the right conditions" and this plays a huge role, ESPECIALLY for a world record attempt I believe all of the above statements are factual, you are free to draw your own conclusions about some of the silly arguments in this comment section.
