Worlds best?....I doubt it. Typical HH prices. Way too expensive. I think I'll stick to buying two batteries for the price of their one battery and charge them the old fashion way. I love technology but it's making this hobby more and more expensive.

No balance plug means no connection for a lipo alarm which makes over discharging more likely. A step backwards IMO.

I like technology and I appreciate the simplicity for the user. What I don't like is being stuck in an ecosystem where I can purchase chargers from only one company just to use with the batteries.

Wow, all that hype for something that Traxxas has been doing for years? You still need a special charger to go with the batteries. Nothing new! Cutting balancing leads off a battery with a pair of scissors? You should not be handing out battery advice...

$250 for 2 channels... I'll stick with my "junk" venom stuff I think :/

Traxxas did this years ago.

Question 1) Without using an inefficient power inverter, how are you going to use these chargers at the fields that don't have AC. #2) How do you Balance your batteries? #3) How do you check the IR's of the individual cells without the balance plug? High IR's are the best way to know if the battery is bad. I use the Junsi iCharger 406 Duo for my needs. I also manually balance flight packs at least once a week. For race batteries in my 1/10 buggies and sedans, I balance on every charge while I cycle them. 40a continuous discharge / 40a balance charge, and after only running a 5 minute race, I can cycle a pack in about 12 minutes. That's for 100c rated packs.

Maybe as this tech gets adopted it will get cheaper, but right now I have an ammo box full of LIPO and LION batteries that work for me. I am in no rush to change over. Clever, but not essential, yet.

I know Traxxas has already removed the balance lead a few years ago, but what people are missing is that the packs actually discharge themselves to a safe storage voltage when not in use. I have personally ruined batteries by accidentally leaving them fully charged and not using them. Plus the little chip inside the lipo records data that can be read by the charger. Are these spektrum lipo's a must have item? No, but they are the safest on the market right now.

1)Most of the negative comments are not a stab at you personally more of people simply stating their opinions and should be handled as such. 2) Yes these batteries go above and beyond other brands including Traxxas so it is expected to pay a premium for them I plan on picking some up myself. 3)I know how much you guys love Traxxas so your opinion is very bias and that is never a good thing. It's your channel say whatever you want but you will only gain respect from the community by putting that behind you. 4) just my 2 cents take it or leave it I don't care I like the channel and love seeing a couple enjoying the hobby together keep up the great work!

It’s crazy how technology has progressed. I remember when you would plug your battery in before you went to bed then after you eat breakfast you can go drive your car for a whole 10-15 minutes plug the battery back in and you might get another run after dinner if you’re lucky lol.

So, the battery has yet another weakness built in. damage that balancer board in a crash and you battery is trash. I can replace a balance plug or even fit a new balance lead easily and I expect that even if you could get a replacement board it will be harder to replace. Putting a battery back into storage has never been an issue to me.

I am truly excited by this. I started with NiCD, then NiMh, and when LiPo came along it was revolutionary. I got my current charger like 8 years ago when I got my first LiPo batteries, and it might be time for an upgrade. My only issue is the cost of the batteries themselves when there are better options (power-wise) for cheaper, but for my use - primarily bashing at this point, I want my batteries to last as long as possible, so this seems like the *smart* choice! The auto-discharge will be nice for that. I will lament losing all my deans plugs on my various RCs. Thanks Saylors for the great content! I normally like the channel. But you have been in the hobby "hard for 8 solid years" and you cut a balance lead off with scissors shorting each cell. Smart haha. You should know them are live wires. You say charge in a lipo bag but do that lol.

I hate to say it but the removal of the balnce lead is a kick in the face ,and because of that I wont buy any of these batteries .. you cant use any other chargers or cell checkers on the smart batteries version2 other then their charger and checker ,what happened to the backwards compatibility thing . I feel like spektrum turned its back on a large portion of the market. example is a person who buys a battery but not the charger. I wont be buying any smart gen2 batteries at all .. I hope they keep the gen 1 with the balance plug or they lose my support altogether.

I like my balance leads thank you very much. I use it to power other things like led's or the vtx system.

Those are absolutely awesome Nate and Abby! I agree that this is great for beginners and the technology is state of the art. But there is one downside. Unfortunately, most of us are on a working man's budget and forking out $300 for some batteries and a charger is a tough pill to swallow... Especially since a $52 venom charger and $29 Zeees lipos work perfectly fine. I'm sorry if I'm coming off the wrong way, I don't mean to. Please forgive me, I just hope you guys can appreciate my point. But truly, I do love this technology and think this product is awesome. But I also love a new Ferrari if you get what I mean lol Keep up the great work guys, love the channel

I really believe this to be great tech, its expensive. But lets be honest with our selfs, any real hobby enthusiasts car/boats/planes/drones knows that these hobbies are not cheap. It all starts with the first purchase at then its on from there. Expensive/cheap at the end of the day its a hobby. Its not a necessity to have, its a want. If you like the smart tech and can afford it great. If not feel free to watch some of the older videos from RC saylors, they have links were to purchase other cheaper ways to go. I once again I do appreciate what Nate and Abby do for the hobby. They inform all of us watching about new and exciting things.

Yes...finally! If you're not dealing with a balance plug that's too short, you're trying to tuck one in that's waaay too long. I've also had to deal with balance leads that are loose and malfunction in flight sending the alarm off.

I like that you are so amped that technology like this exists but it still can't charge a nimh battery or any other battery that doesn't have the IC3 or IC5 connector and you can't charge those new batteries on an older charger. So you have to get the Spectrum charger to charge the new batteries. I run Dean's on everything, so this new technology doesn't do me any good. It's nice and great and yes it might get new people into the hobby but it's just another ploy to get someone to buy Spectrum over a another brand of charger like the Venom one you have that is more universal. I own a small hobby shop, I am a Redcat and RC4WD dealer and I tried to get on with Traxxas, I don't like when someone comes in with a Traxxas ID battery and asks if I have a charger for it or if I can put a different end on it, which you can't because you wouldn't be able to charge it. I will get off my high horse now and stop ranting. I support you guys on Patreon and love what you are doing and your love for the hobby but I guess I am just old school when it comes to batteries and such and don't want to switch all my connectors over or get a bunch of adapters.

You had me at "I'm so excited". LOL Because of your video on the S2100 charger, I converted EVERYTHING to IC3/IC5 and changed all my vehicles connectors to IC3/IC5. You bet I'll get this one as well and have two chargers working in conjunction with my Bat-Safes. Literally, I will not have to change anything to work with this new charger. I'm interested in the new batteries too, but I don't have to buy new ones because my current Spektrum batteries still work! (Everything electric runs Spektrum in this household.)

Another great video. I raced in the dark ages of NiCd batteries and just got back into the hobby a few years ago and the LiPos scare the begeezus out of me. This system will definitely be my new charger and battery tech of choice. When you pulled out the Venom charger with all the wires hanging off it, that sealed the deal for me 1000%. So very exciting. Very exciting. Thank you for the great & entertaining video.

Really great new smart update. But only for latest planes, etc. as I like to use a lipo alarm for security reasons when there is no smart esc installed.

Having looked at the prices of this Spekky Smart stuff, I'm so not geeking out. It's gonna take a small lottery win before I can afford to go down this road.

Great video, after reviewing the comments below, it appears that several people are concerned with the fact that all spektrum stuff is biased to spektrum. Im sure traxxas stuff is biased to traxxas stuff, heck they have there on brand connectors. I think for someone getting in hobby that doesn't have a big pocket book, there is several options. But this option from spektrum is a great way to start if you can afford it. I believe I will slowly transition into the new tech. I'm just now getting back into flying, I like the spektrum stuff, over traxxas thats my opinion. P.S. what you and Abby do is not easy, but your doing a great job keep up the good work, I like your channel its great.

What features come with the the new s2200 charger that warrants the $100 increase over the s2100 charger? Wont the s2100 charger charge the G2 batteries with a firmware update? Am I missing something for why a G2 charger is needed over the g1 charger? Thanks.

that was incredibly stupid cutting the balance lead off. Personally the new G2 smart packs is adding more stupidity to the hobby.

I really like all your videos! I'm new to this hobby, but I've seen a few people say to stay away from the g2 batteries. when the chip goes bad, you either have to junk it or solder on a balance cable. Why even get rid of it if this is gonna happen. I personally got the g1 so I could use a regular charger. Thanks for all the great videoz! I got the ranger 1220mm rtf and the aeroscout s2 1.1m but I'm waiting for simulator. Did things a little backwards but I was excited. I fly paramotors but hurt my back so figured I'd learn to fly rc planes while I'm down

So they have moved the BMS (Battery Management System) onto the battery itself. If it is a good BMS, then that is a good thing...but inferior ones can cause problems. Let's hope it is a good one!!!

I first saw batteries without balance leads about 5 years ago. I feel its a bit biased to leave out what traxxas did 5 years ago and say it is revolutionary when spektrum does it.

Traxxas hasn't had balance leads and ID chargers for how long now and you act like this is new tech lol. Not saying traxxas batteries are better but they have been doing this for a long time. And the ID chargers still have a balance lead port to charge batteries from other companies

Almost all cons in the comments so far. Please do some follow up videos to address what you can - or maybe get Spektrum to do it. My biggest concern, like many others, is no low voltage alarm/ indication during flight. Relying on just a timer is going backwards. So now instead of a $2 alarm we need to upgrade to a telemetry receiver and I believe a smart ESC as well? Any idea when all HH " Spektrum" RTF/BNF planes will come with both? Does anyone know the answer to this question- with a smart battery (either generation) and one of the new telemetry receivers will I get total voltage/ cell voltage back to my compatible transmitter during flight or do i need a smart ESC as well? As far as getting mud in the balance plug for ground vehicles - a piece of painters tape over the plug while running is my solution. Guys thank you for the video but we definitely need more follow ups from someone. I do hope the first generation smart battery remains available for many years to come.

Sorry Nate, the balance plug being gone doesn't really do anything for me, if anything its kinda inconvenient, locks you into having to buy pricier batteries, chargers, and voltage checkers from just 1 company, it also removes competition, thus also removing any incentive to lower the price, ever. My cell checker wont work on these batteries anymore, so that means more money for some new type of voltage and cell tester when at the field. Seems a lot of sacrifice for something that has never been a issue. Now the charger not having to be configured for the battery, to just be able to plug in the battery and hit a single button to charge it, that, is super exciting, that is game changing, lead with that next time, i hate that as much as you seem to hate a balance port, my AA and AAA battery charger knows what its charging, and knows when its charged regardless of its capacity, that my 10 times more expensive lipo charger cant is kinda lame. No idea why they bothered with the sliding covers over the charge ports, drop those and save a nickel.

I just got into these batteries with my new Arrma Rc truck, I used the charger the truck came with and it took 5 1/2 hours to charge the battery so I ordered the Spektrum charger and like you I am so excited to get it.

Yes but... the balance is managed by the card included in the battery, if this card does not work correctly (and it happens, it has already happened with smart batteries) there is no longer any way to control or to use this battery. The system is good but we should at least leave a balancing plug on the battery, even if it means making a cord just in case. Thank you for your videos. [EDIT] oh this video is already two years old, maybe you have changed your mind about this solution.

This issue is that one is now forced to purchase and use a Smart charger to charge the new G2 batteries. Every other charger would require using a balance lead.

First I have to say, I love you guys. you bring such excitement to the hobby. Now to the task at hand... being a major geek for 5 decades, yes I'm old but young at heart. I see a major downside for the newbies out there. One of the things you learned and rather quickly was to understand the battery you were using, pick a type, doesn't matter. You learned C ratings, mAh and more. This has been taken out of the equation with these new chargers and batteries. Newbies, take the time and learn your batteries with as much information as you can find. RC vehicles can be very fickle in the type, size, C rating, etc. This, like many other hobbies, has that old saying "what you don't know can hurt you a whole lot!" Don't use technology as a crutch but a tool. Understand your tools and why they do things. With that said, OMG!!! I bought a smart battery, S150 charger and smart checker to play with and geeking out to the extreme here... If you have smart or dumb batteries, doesn't matter, get this smart checker, it does SO much. Kudos guys, Shout out to Amelia (she must be getting so big) and Popeye... Have to charge some batteries now...

I like the idea, but the balance lead powers some of my telemetry modules.

Not having a balance wire makes testing equipment I already have, obsolete. I don’t like the G2 batteries for that reason. Bought 3 G2 batteries, new in the box, and one of them was down to 3.4 volts, brand new! Horizon gave me the run around and said if it charged ok it was good. That goes against everything I’ve been told and read.

I ordered the charger today. A little expensive but should be the last one I'll need for a very long time. Thanks guys!🕹🛫⚓

Traxxas chargers have a balance port. Proprietary batteries and chargers are over priced.

Very cool, but wait, yesterday in a video you convinced me to get more LiPo battery voltage testers...so now that's out? Hmmmm.... so no more saving hundreds or thousands of dollars on batteries? I'm new to the hobby and have spent more than my limit on vehicles, batteries, and accessories. This may have to wait a while. PTL.

One problem. My F-15 has an afterburner that gets it's power from the balance lead.

I think the charger is the big star of the news. I absolutely agree about the doors opened to new RC folks. To not have to try explain balance charging to someone and bypass that entirely and make it easy like DJI does with their batteries/chargers...YES! Expensive, but awesome! Also, looks like you guys moved???? Congrats if so!

My S1100 already auto starts charging and displays remaining time. That’s not new.

I do like a lot of the extra options that Spectrum Smart devices and chargers give you , but this isn’t new technology as Traxxas’s ID Live chargers and batteries have had this for plenty of years now and batteries have No balance leads either and you can charge any other types of batteries you might have that aren’t Traxxas smart batteries, and you have the app on your phone so it can actually send you a notification to tell you when your batteries are done charging or you can just look to see what state of charging their at and you can toggle through your batteries if you have a few charging plug you can connect multiple chargers and toggle between them to watch all your batteries, and they start your batteries charging immediately upon plugging them in as they also already know what’s the best amps to charge that particular battery and it shows you each cell charging and how long it’ll take also, but Spectrum chargers have a touch screen which I like as Traxxas ID chargers are strictly Bluetooth, but there was rumours a year or two ago that Traxxas is refining their charger and will be out with their Gen 2 what should be this or next year as it said they weren’t going to rush their Gen 2 unit they have plenty of feedback to see what they could make better. Lol But I mainly started this message to talk about the No balance leads on the batteries but ended up sorta sidetracked, as I was going to say that the smart tech in the batteries are really nice, but I noticed that the Spectrum batteries the smart wires are loose and can easily get caught or bend around to much and cause fractures or breaks in them, as Traxxas moulded their smart wires to the sides of the main power wires with like a flexible rubber coating that makes them a little better placed. I’ve also have had problems with the smart wires and it stops the battery from charging and can be a real headache to fix, so I guess we’ll have to wait and see if the Spectrum smart batteries without the balance leads have the same problems and if they don’t I’ll be surprised then. I guess time will tell. Lol Sorry about the long message but sometimes you start off only wanting to say one thing and it turns into multiples !! Stay and Play Safe !! 👊✌️

I just bought my first RC Boat (sonicwake) and i bought a Spectrum smart technology powerstage battery & charger bundle with a S2100 AC charger and the batteries came with balance leads, is it suppose to? the box shows no leads on the batteries and the box was open at the store

How would one balance these batteries without a smart charger? It's an exciting thing, for sure. Just curious for those without a smart charger on hand.
