I don't know the place, but if you want to ridge soar, you need a steady strong enough breeze and you have to stay closer to the ridge. Once on the ground with wind, I find it often easier to control the wing with the rear riser rather than the brakes. But really you did nothing wrong here: safe take-off and safe landing is what matters!
thank you for commenting Francis 👍. It was not an ideal day for sure, but I really wanted to give it a shot and I was on vacation so had few opportunities in the area. Also, I was about a 10 hr pilot at the time, so I was very new. Every flight is a great learning opportunity and you can’t learn if you don’t try.👊
