This crowd looks tiny in comparison to even some smaller local shows. I really wish WSM would give the guys the atmosphere they deserve at such a high level of proffesional sport, the build up to this event was sooo quiet and under advertised. I understand that its a TV show but strongman has grown now and i think people should really be given a chance to watch it live , we dont care if there are TV segments etc being filmed throughout , its just a chance for people to watch their favourite athletes performing live and to be able to support the sport in the process by paying for it. It’s the new Brian/big Z rivalry. Tom and Mitch will go back-and-forth each year and something stupid will happen that is out of their control to cost them a point or two. Also, if you look at the rock climbing community, they also obsess over skin quality as they are always wearing it down on their finger tips, they have started to use a combination of chalk and a fan to get the best dryness for their skin. I have been watching strongman since I was a child. Watching you perform has been a absolute treasure for Canada and strongmen. You and Tom will be like Brian and Z title after title I’m sure of it. Great performance Mitch !

Well done to Tom, for minimising his weakness, while maintaining his strengths. Well done to Mitch for showing great fortitude. What about a Devon Larratt and Mitch Hooper grip training collaboration?

One of the best examples of sportsmanship in our modern world! Hats off to you Mitch for going out and giving 100% regardless of how your body was feeling. Even more respect for the way you make sure to give Tom his recognition. Can't wait to see you two continue to battle! LHBK!

I suppose the consolation for Mitch (beyond 2nd place which is a huge accomplishment) is that if he won the medley he would have ended up at 52.5 points and Tom at 52. He possibly left points behind on axle, and deadlift too (one more rep gets 2 points). Meanwhile, Tom performed perfectly (and above expectation on the Conan's wheel). Should still be a confidence boost for Mitch knowing that he has Tom's number when everything goes right. Hopefully these guys don't fall into the Brian Shaw mentality of only focusing on WSM and they continue to compete often. Especially since I don't even regard WSM as the top competition anymore.

Gymnasts that do uneven bars know about calluses & preventing or reducing ripping on hands. We used to proactively shave down & sand the calluses so they wouldn't rip.

Hell of a go! Being able to push through and focus on doing everything you can is super inspiring. Congrats to Tom on his incredible performance this year, but man, watching Mitch grind through this on pure determination was a sight. 2025 (and the 2024 season) is going to be a hell of a battle.

Unbelievable result given your situation! Finishing second is amazing and you should feel as proud as you did last year! Absolutely idol and example to the world on sportsmanship, commitment, not giving up and how to take not winning something like a true champ!

I had the great honor of meeting Mitch Hooper this past week at the competition. This man's heart is the size of Secretariat, and not just for fighting through the pain with his hands. That was amazing though...almost setting the WR in Axle press, after that hand injury? Insane! Setting/matching the WR in keg toss? How? Speaking of heart though, if anyone out there doesn't know this yet, he is so amazingly generous with his time when it comes to the fans. There were very few other competitors who interacted with the fans, which is not a knock on them! It's a competition they've trained for, and dreamed about. These athletes certainly don't owe us any of their time! But it is the same for Mr. Hooper, and he took extra time and energy to talk to, and take photo's with us(fans) throughout the competition. Thank you Mr. Hooper, for the person you are. I look forward to seeing you become more and more of a legend in the sport, partly because I know the world will embrace and support you more for who you are, than for what you do. Though to be perfectly honest...its also great watching in amazement at what you do!

You are a true warrior and a great ambassador for strongman. It may have been Tom's year regardless but I think it would've been one of the closest finishes in WSM history had it not been for the hands injury. I'm a fan of yours for life because of how you handled this. Total class.

This sums up what it takes to be the best at anything in life - keeping on going despite the pain, acknowledging positives as well as negatives, and knowing pain passes while others give up rather than facing it. Congratulations on winning at life, Mitch.

How you handled the challenge of tearing up your hands in the first event, maintaining a positive attitude and fighting spirit, shows why you inspire so many of us. It took a near-flawless showing by Tom to win, with you fighting through injuries to keep it soooo close.

I was truly heartbroken for you Mitch, not a whole heap you can do about what happened, it is what it is. I really enjoyed the leadup to this years WSM comp, No stone unturned series. It was really great. I hope you can keep cranking out the RU-vid videos and I hope you can quickly recover and come back even better for the rest of your comps. You are a gentleman and a scholar and one of the greatest athletes I have ever seen.
