In this tutorial, we will learn how to use Reyax RYS8830 GPS/GNSS Receiver Module to retrieve time and position data from satellite navigation systems. The RYS8830 module from Reyax is based on Sony CXD5605GF/CXD5605AGF technology & comes as a small SMD component. The RYS8830 GNSS modules can be used in tracking devices that need to be small and power-saving. The Reyax RYS8830 has a small form factor and ultra-low power consumption. The GPS/GNSS Module can be interfaced with any microcontroller & can be operated using a simple coin-cell battery.
The RYS8830 Module is a very small SMD Module and requires a PCB. So, in this tutorial, we will use an evaluation board (RYS8830 EVB). The RYS8830 Evaluation Board has an embedded power circuit along with the CP2102 Chip & a micro-USB port. So the board can be directly connected to the computer and using the GNNS Software you can start learning and exploring the feature of the RYS8830 Chip.

If you are new to GNSS (GPS) and want to interface to an STM32 or similar MCU then forget this device. Otherwise be prepared to loose a couple of months of your life. It is as simple to use as the Large Hadron Collider. The documentation describes each command fairly thoroughly, but gives no operational guide. Consequently it is like trying to learn English from a dictionary.

I am not a tech savvy whatsoever. I am interested on learning how to track time. Can you please answer these questions? : 1. Can this device be programmed to activate at a crossing point?, 2. What is the max range?, 3. Can it be battery powered?

@@cookingwithvince you have an IMEI number which is unique in all phones. When your phone registers to any network, this number can be traced directly via the network. This is only licensed to police and cyber security. Still if u want to add an external gps and make your phone bulky and not so handy just to find it if lost, it's your wish.

I have a small problem. I need to use components that are compatible with Arduino. A position sensor (so I use a GPS module. This GPS module must be Adafruit Ultimate GPS Data Acquisition Module (GPS Included)). A position storage (with an SD card that must work with an SPI link). A bluetooth interface. A GUI to visualize the route (using an Android tablet that is compatible with a bluetooth module). Toi Can advise me to choose my components
