There should be a pairs drumming competition not a solo one . Its easy for an accomplished drummer to make it up as he goes along . I did it for many years myself . Pairs would have to actually learn the beatings .
That’s fine to make it up as you go along when playing on your own.Thats the idea,as long as you are keeping time and it blends with the tune.i have no problem with it.And I’m sure a decent judge can tell the difference.And having 2 side drummers is better in a mini band contest.
