(⚠️LONG COMMENT BEWARE⚠️) amazing video! i don't know how you only got 551 subscribes i really love the commentary , but i subscribe! Also I know you said for anyone to comment on the video somebody has been to the WTC Before 9/11. Well sadly i have not but i have some info! At 3:07 your in front of a sculpture called the cloud fortress and also the Ads on the windows are real pictures of the center stage events in the plaza. The sphere used to play Music around the fountain to add some peace i guess as well as spin every 40 or so minutes and at 5:39 is another sculpture called the ideogram Sculpture by James Rosati, also the 1993 Memorial is behind it just before the plaza entrance to the Hotel to remember the 6 people killed in the attack where a Ryder bomb rigged with explosives exploded in the garage and they say they they tried to collapse the north tower into the south tower. The seating area at 10:43 had massive indoor trees to mimic central park feel as like your in the park having a picnic. Also that was not a library but a Gift shop. Also the in the map, the creator forgot to add a place called ''Manhattan magic'' Which was a fake helicopter ride simulation going around NYC. In the There was a restaurant on the 107th floor called ''Windows on the world'' Which covered the whole floor which was a massive restaurant. Again the little fountain at 27:35 you walked passed was the 1993 bombing memorial There was also a police station and a day-care inside of 5 world trade center (Near 7 WTC) As well in 6 WTC Was a customs house and a shooting range!

This is amaszing. The Indoor Observation Deck in the South Tower had benches in front of the windows so you could sit and look out if you weren't ready for the roof. Each window you looked out of told you what you saw. Artists etchings were engraved in the windows. Going on the roof was like heaven. I worked at the WTC before 9/11. It was the best part of my life. I adored the windows. One day I had lunch and sat at the window near my desk. I leaned against one of the strong columns and looked out over the city. What looked like window seats were actually air vents. The "cafeteria" you describe was probably one of many rooms at Windows on the World restaurant. It was the Number One restaurant in America and had floors 106-107 to it. NO, North Tower had a RECEIVING ANTENNA, not a useless spire. New York, America and the world are not the same without them. They should have been rebuilt, period.
@Wretched2JZ
@Wretched2JZ Год назад
I agree I wish they were re built also! But with times changing and less and less office jobs it’s hard to justify it. They are having problems filling the first tower they built. Which makes me think.. if they re built it more similar to the original ones.. maybe more folks would have wanted to rent space from there due to the nostalgia of it all. And what it represents! It’s cool the new tower is just as tall.. but design wise they dropped the ball a bit. It’s a nice looking tower in its own sense. But doesn’t justify the WTC and doesn’t fill that void.
@Freshbott2
@Freshbott2 Год назад
@@Wretched2JZit would have been a better symbol if they rebuilt them or at least if they made a twin of the one they did build. The way it went kind of just says oh well, you beat us. But the method they were built with isn’t up to scratch, they weren’t when they were new. They were a product of their engineering and so if you’re building concrete ones with lookalike steel perimeters, you lose the point and the benefit. You lose floor space and lose the efficient construction which means endless $$$. One World is exactly that with a concrete core and steel exterior and look at how different its shell had to be to withstand a similar event. You’re right about occupancy though, but it would be especially difficult. One of the reasons One World is so hard to fill is people are still worried about reprisals. Firms have been told by their security agencies not to even go there. Which is a shame cause realistically the chances are pretty small but what can you do? People are traumatised.
@b1zzler
@b1zzler Год назад
Ironically, I remember getting WAY worse vertigo sitting in those chairs than I got on the roof of the tower. On the roof, there were like two or three redundant barriers preventing you from getting anywhere near the edge, so everything felt extremely safe. Those indoor observation deck chairs though... just a floor-to-ceiling pane of crystal clear glass between you and a 1300 ft drop to street level. Pretty sure I got a healthy dose of adrenaline when I looked down 😂😂
@angelmendez2211

@@Freshbott2 I always thought a great memorial they could technically still do is make the skeletal frames of the buildings as if there there, but with the inside with lights, and waterfalls going into the reflection pools. down the towers Then on the top have the towers would have the blue spotlights going up. I will also changed tower 2 location to where the planned tower 5 at, and 5 at where two is planned at. I would've actually done it where that new temple was put so it closer but that 5 location would be close enough. That way it somewhat diagonal line of the new towers with the old towers cradled in-between them. I also would've use the ps4 spiderman of world trade center design that they use for building 2 since it goes with one world trade center design somewhat but with that slant towards the towers like they wanted.
@nickcockayne7880
@nickcockayne7880 Год назад
Who do you think was going to pay for the rebuild? How were two such massive buildings going to pay for themselves after being destroyed before with business extremely unlikely to want to occupy the same space again? Follow the money. The twins being rebuilt was never ever going to happen purely for a financial viewpoint. I agree in a perfect world they would have been rebuilt but in reality nobody would have occupied them and they would have stood empty. Is that what we really would have wanted?

I thought I'd mention this since you loved the Garry's Mod iteration. I'm currently working on a "Sequel" to this map for S&Box. Thanks to the brand new engine, it can handle a butt load more than what's included in the OG Garry's Mod map. I'm planning (so far) to have the entirety of the Trade Center complex, including the underground mall, interiors for WTC 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7, and a lot more interiors for the main two Twins. It's going pretty well so far, as I'm typing this I'm working on detailing WTC 7's exterior and I must say, in a brand new modern Source 2 engine, they look phenomenal. It even has the 1:1 original mall music that played at the real Plaza thanks to the WTC Musak community! There's no planned finish date yet as I have a buttload to do, but when the time comes and if you have access to S&Box, I would love if you covered it on your channel so people know what the World Trade Center was truly like with no Source 1 Garry's Mod limitations. I'm really starting to be thankful S&Box has VR support so you can fully immerse yourself in the complex!

6:26 Yeah, I cant for the life of me figure out why the creator added the siren ambient that not only keeps coming back if you type "stopsound" in the console, but progressively gets louder and louder if you leave it alone. It's like he wanted to remind me of that tragedy
@scratchpad7954

I think that's exactly what he's looking for. The wistful music he has playing to try to drown out the sirens has me literally choking back waves of sorrow - if you can even begin to call it that - as I look back on that day and the 3,000 innocent lives lost. Not even the jazz music as he approaches the observation deck helps.

I always heard of the open floor plan.. never expected the office areas to be this much of a maze. Makes the whole situation that much scarier. I just pictured in my brain cubicles on open floors
@TheJillianRussell
@TheJillianRussell 11 месяцев назад
I pictured open cubicles as well, was also surprised at the walled in offices!
@woutwezenbeek2207
@woutwezenbeek2207 11 месяцев назад
The open floorplan means that all the support beams are positioned in the center of the building close to the stairways and elevators. This saves space on the floors because all the pillars are together in one place instead of spread across the entire area. all the walls around the cubicles do not carry any support. This open floor plan is also the reason why it collapsed. The burning jet fuel softened the supporting beams that held the floors up. This caused the floors to sag and pull the outer walls in, what significantly reduced the rigidity of the building and caused the collapse.
@sullybiker6520
@sullybiker6520 11 месяцев назад
Most of them were as you describe - open plan - but tenants could do whatever they liked and with framing and drywall create lots of interesting spaces.
@RobbyHouseIV
@RobbyHouseIV 11 месяцев назад
The "open floorspace" concept didn't mean each floor was completely open with no partition walls, etc. That was up to the tenants of each floor who could set up their own floor plans to their specific needs. This was done largely through the use of gypsum drywall panels to create as many offices, hallways, conference rooms, computer labs, etc. as was needed. Just how "open" a tenant's leased space was depended on what was needed. Theoretically the whole space could literally be open with no partitions like for instance a massive call center with scores of cubicals, etc. Many working near the impact zones of both towers on September 11th whose escape appeared cut off and knew of the gypsum composition of the walls on each floor were able to kick in the drywall and find alternative pathways to the tower's stairwells leading to safety below.

So I went back down. I took a cab, and as I looked up, I saw that WTC 1 was on fire. I was in shock to know that both of them collapsed 1 hour later. I had to stay at an apartment since then. EXACTLY!! Glad you KNOW this. As the 9/11 report by NIST tried to say the lower lobbies were “blown up” due to jet fuel coming down the elevators into the lobby! But truth is no elevators ran from impact zone down to the lobby. NIST made so many mistakes in their report and many were pointed out to them but they Will Not Comment on it 😑.. It’s a shame that so many things are covered up and knowledge about what really happened is hidden from us. Fortunately a professional group did the it together a 5 hour documentary totally debunking the NIST report with all real world interviews from folks who were there like fire man and first responders and office workers. They have a recording of an explosion about as loud as the plane explosion that happened just 9 seconds prior to the first plane hit at 8:46! Luckily a block or 2 away a company was audio recording a business meeting and they picked it up!

Hey man thanks for letting us experience a tour of the WTC. My dad had the chance that was like in 1998 he has the exact picture on top of the observation deck where you went. I was still in Grammar School at the time. And he also (thank god for his decision) had to refuse for a Doctor's Convention that will be held on at the WTC like a short of 2-3 days before the incident, and after that the remaining days (exactly on that day) he would had plans to do some touring in New York before he comes home (Philippines). My mom still has his small notepad of all of his To Do Lists and on that list was to tour (in order) the Empire State, WTC, Broadway, NYC China Town and last stop was Liberty Statue before boarding a plane back home. It was a good decision that he stayed home due a a VIP patient the he had to take care of. I remember that it was night at home because me and my mom we went all out studying every subjects that I have and after that before going to bed was reruns of the old Tom & Kerry shows. And I remember my dad sitting on his chair just eyes focused on the television it was on CNN and me being the ignorant and young just wanted to ask my share of the TV before bed. And my dad was all of a sudden "commanded" me to go to bed. As I went to my room my mom went out with a loud gasp and the next day I knew they didn't sleep because (to my understanding now) he was calling on the phone asking his colleagues how they were, where are they, they're all fine because after the convention almost everyone of his doctor friends boarded a plane back home just 2 days shy of the hijakings. But that's all I can remember. And the next day in my hometown (Philippines) every News Flash every Newspaper delivered to our home were these buildings on fire and people covered with ash and again I was just at 1st grade at that time I never knew the word Terrorism and even Death at that time. For me this incident really broaden or opened my eyes to such dangers.

Even after it all happened several guys who the government claimed were “hi jackers” came forward and said they were still alive and that they have never even been on a plane before! Whole thing was a setup and planned way in advance! Even the “war games “ scheduled for that morning screwed everything up. Because the war games just happened to be a fake scenario where terrorists steal planes and fly them into buildings.

20:55 no it wasn’t 70s designing. As clients moved in and over time as things changed companies would have modified the floors/ spaces to their liking! Like the Cantor Fitzgerald office at the top with the huge pillars and cement statues etc. I think tenants after being given permission could paint and wallpaper anyway they wanted! I’m sure there was some limitations tho.

Not sure If anyone has corrected this - but I went up the 2 WTC south tower as a student 6 months before they were attacked and I remember to get to the viewing deck on the roof there wasn't and escalator like in this video. It was a narrow staircase inside the building that ran close to the outside windows. Still, it's spooky to see things in again VR. Oh and I believe their was a gift shop in that place where he called it a "library" - but I'm not 100% on that.

Wait. there were movable window washer elevators? I wonder why folks stuck above damage zone didn't get to use them.. I know one tower had 1 functioning escape stairs, the other had the roof access locked. AFAIK it was the south tower that had the working stairs. Kinda shocking that the window washers werent used for evacuations if they were on the towers. I know it's not the fastest elevator in the world, but lives could have been saved if they were used as lifeboats.
@MrRed_2205
@MrRed_2205 Год назад
I'm fairly sure they weren't used because they either couldn't acces the roof, or on the other tower succombed to the smoke before they could use them.. A helicopter rescue was not possible because of the same reason, there was just too much smoke

I never really saw that day as “an attack on America” (even though it was). I’ve always viewed it & felt it as as attack on humanity as a whole. Maybe because that was my 11-12yr old thought when I watched it unfolding on the news from Australia, I don’t know but I saw it as a global tragedy & threat that everybody far & wide needed to come together on. The location itself I always saw as just that, the location, of this attack on humanity. Thank you SO much for this!!! We truly are so blessed with todays technology that allows us to literally see back in time & places many could never travel to see. Whoever made this is extremely talented!!!

I just realized, I always felt the same as you just Said. An attack on Humanity or global comunity or civilization in general. The whole World watched on tv. We were traumatized and Got PTSD from it. If a plain flies over head, you just remember that it can be used as a weapon. It can Fall on you. It can ram the building you are in. And other things in life can remind you and make you pause and shift focus to some detail reminding you of that day.

The Victims couldn't reach the Roof for Rescue because the door to it was ordered to remain Locked. I seen an interview with a first responder in a Helicopter with a Pilot who flew to the Top in hopes of someone being there to Rescue as he had every intention to try and Pluck some Survivors off the Roof. Alas there was No one there because they had No access because of a Locked door. You just know they tried to get to the Roof. This makes me Angry but I understand hindsight is 20/20 and this Attack couldn't have been imagined at the time.

September 11th 2001 was a day I been waiting for couple of weeks the first date was August 31st 2001 but it was changed to this date and it was important to me because it was the day Mariah Carey album Glitter was being released. I was working at Walmart when it was open 24 hours back than. I was an over night self shock replace. I got the album when I got off right there at Walmart. I couldn't wait to get home to listen to it, when I got home I turn on the TV in the living room and the News was showing the World Trade Center with smoking coming out of it. The reports were that a small plane had crashed into the World Trade Center. I yell to my brother Tommy some idiot just flew into the World Trade Center. My brother was like no way.. I said how stupid do you have to be to fly into the biggest building in New York. As Tommy and me were watching another plane crashed into the other building my brother yelled oh my god, and I said he meant to do that, he flew that plane into the world Trade Center. As the day went on I kept watching and I remember my mom coming into my room saying it going to take them a long time to fix it. Just minutes after she said that the South Tower came down and I said we only have one tower now, I kept worry about the other building after that and than as I was watching the other tower came down. I was crying and with the album in my hand I threw it on the floor because I understand that it really didn't matter anymore. My dad told everyone to come into the living room and he pull out his bible we turn off all the TVs and he started reading Psalms starting with Chapter 1 and just read until it got dark and we all prayed.

Such an excellent video. A great tour of the mod itself, but commendable and heartfelt respect for the victims and what they went through that day. Perfectly done in my opinion, so that the mod can be appreciated for what it is. It is an opportunity to experience the towers from before that day not meant to be a simulation of that day. Yet that day is a reality that cannot be ignored. You handled it perfectly because through genuine sincerity and thoughtfulness. That ambience in the lobby is absolutely horrific though. It might be a good option to have, but should not be by default. As an option it should be more intense though. It's questionable to try to simulate the experience at the impact levels and above, but the lobby experience to some extent prior to either tower collapsing is another matter. For most survivors that is probably forever embedded into their memory. The lobby, mostly perfectly intact as normal except for the chaos (and I know some elevators blew out) left the intense siren activity outside probably forever attached to their memories of that day. That was their last experience of that lobby and probably their last moments of experiencing the towers as a permanent fixture in their city and their lives. Once they made it out and looked back and up, their world instantly and forever changed. I've seen footage of that very thing. Survivors leaving the building with their first reactions to what they saw when they looked back captured on camera. Just think about it. Using crowded stairs to go down no telling how many stories for most of them. Knowing something serious was going on and that there had been some sort of major explosion or whatever..., but the building was still standing, and there wasn't smoke below the impact. All of us know that the reality we were witnessing outside was beyond imagination. So try to imagine having such an intense and chaotic build up to that with a lobby they had passed through hundreds maybe thousands of times being overwhelmed by chaos and countless wailing sirens just before they witnessed for themselves and in person what we could hardly believe and contemplate from our television screens in our normal every day routine and environment..... So I think the siren activity as an ambient noise in the lobby is beyond distasteful and an inexcusable oversight. Yet, again, if it were an option, more intense siren activity in a soundtrack could possibly be one of the best ways to give an experience of that day that is moving without downplaying or making unavoidable light of what is not only unimaginable but indescribably unimaginable as in a level beyond imagining that we can't begin to imagine imaging. That's a twisty description, but think about it. What we experienced on television was beyond what we could imagine. Thus the reality that those who were there was beyond even that. Those at or above the impact zone was far beyond even that. No justice can be done. No amount of VR tech will ever approach their reality. That leaves the lobby experience as probably the best option to transport people to an authentic and life-changing experience about that day.
