If you enjoy war thunder or are looking forward to Microsoft flight simulator 2020, consider getting yourself into Digital Combat Simulator by Eagle Dynamics, the Combat side of Aviation with the BVR and Dogfights really provides a different and interesting perspective on aviation. You can fly all kinds of combat aircraft including the F-16, F-15, F-14, JF-17, Su-27, Mig-29, Mirage and the F-18 Hornet along with many other aircraft and helicopters like the Ka-50 and Mi-8.
In this video we dive into the British hawker tempest and look at its performance in a dogfight against a bf-109 the 109 is a common foe the tempest faced at low altitude on the eastern front then the Germans would try to attack ground forces or strafe allied airfields. This video I think gives us a look into History and what happened with these aircraft during world war 2. Thank you very much for watching and your on going support with the channel.

Check out the Merch Store: teespring.com/stores/growling-sidewinder-store Once again, apologizes for the lack of tacview in this one, I'll get it fixed for the next video. So as I said in the video I'm interested in bringing new Sims to the channel where we can explore different and new aircraft so I'm trying to introduce Il-2 into the channels rotation this will allow us to have an in-depth look at some different world war 2 aircraft and dive into the history a little more, Let me know your thoughts on this idea and please feel free to suggest other sims and games that may allow us to do this on the channel. Thank you all for watching, and a special thank you to B3AR828 for creating this IL-2 mission for me and making my life much much easier. Thanks guys Take care.

Very cool to see IL-2 Content! I'd be interested to see you flying the 109 in one of these dogfights. It's a very... unique performance envelope, because its advantages/disadvantages are highly contextual. A spitfire always has to turn fight, a 190 always has to boom and zoom, but a 109 is a turn fighter against P-51s, and an energy fighter against spitfires. I don't always have my best fights in the 109, but I always have my most interesting ones with it.

Right after Pearl Harbor, the AAF's "modern" inventory was made up of P-39s and P-40E Kittyhawks. During America's "hard year" (Dec 41 - Dec 42) obsolescent aircraft like the -39 and -40E often became fodder for experienced Japanese pilots in their lightweight, highly maneuverable aircraft. However . . . the experiences of the AVG--the Flying Tigers in China--operating even older versions of the P-40 laid the groundwork for energy-based tactics that literally kept the USA in the war for a year. The message from Gen. Claire Chenault of the Flying Tigers was clear--avoid a dogfight at all costs. Get above the enemy and dive on them. As you're climbing up after your initial dive, dive again as soon as possible. You're flying an all metal airplane with multiple fifty cals and (in the P-39) a 20mm cannon. You don't have to be the more advanced aircraft (or the more advanced fighter pilot, lol, !). You just have to exploit all the advantages of a typical pre-war American plane--which came down to exploiting it's weight / firepower for energy.

As far as WarThunder goes, its sim element seems to be alright, but I don't know if the flight-models are all that accurate. It does offer an extreme variety of aircraft though, so it might be interesting for content involving odd-ball aircraft.

@@-Zevin- totally depends on the Mark of Spitfire.
@mostevil1082
@mostevil1082 3 года назад
@@-Zevin- The Russians usually got older used Spitfires, it wasn't best at low speed and low altitude where they tended to fight, plus there's a load of Soviet propaganda to factor in. With Spitfires and Mustangs from the same time period running the same fuel the Spitfire should have the advantage. The P-51 was incredible considering it's range and pilot skill will play a big part, but it's oversold by those US history channel documentaries. It was very good and it had the range to go with the bombers, but by then the Luftwaffe was diminished and the Mustangs usually had a big numerical superiority. In every US warbird documentary I've seen it's the usual nonsense about "awesome power" and "greatest aircraft of the war", be that the P-51, P-38 or P-47. The pilots also seem to invent boom and zoom in each one too, which everyone was aware of and the German aces had been using since the start of the war (I think they did invent the silly name though). Pinch of salt required.
@botchii3059
@botchii3059 3 года назад
@@-Zevin- Depends on which Spitfire. Spitfire Mk XIV was better than the P-51D in next to every way. It was faster, was more manoeuvrable, had much better climb, had a higher power-to-weight ratio, and had a higher service ceiling. The only area where the Mk XIV was properly lacklustre in was with its range, though that's tongue-and-cheek with Spitfires. Those kill figures I believe are also based off of claims, which are known to be exaggerated by an exorbitant amount. I believe there is also no record of total Spitfire kills.
@botchii3059
@botchii3059 3 года назад
@@-Zevin- I know that; you hinted that a P-51 vs Spitfire dogfight would be in favour of the P-51, though the opposite would have been true. Spitfire was designed to gain air-superiority; P-51 was designed to give good high-altitude bomber escort. P-51 can not beat the Spitfire in a dogfight or energy fight. Spitfire can not escort bombers to 2500km.
@botchii3059
@botchii3059 3 года назад
@@-Zevin- I stated earlier that the Spitfire Mk XIV had not only a better climb rate in comparison to a P51D, but also had a faster top speed, a higher service ceiling, and higher power-to-weight ratio. Mk XIV was a better air superiority fighter in general, and could beat the P-51 at dogfighting and energy fighting. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supermarine_Spitfire_(Griffon-powered_variants) en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_American_P-51_Mustang

@steelpanther88
@steelpanther88 3 года назад
Best pros about tempest in my opinion are: 1) excellent allaround visibility bubble canopy, 2) killer guns, 3) high speed. I think you did an excellent job in the dogfight riding at the edge of the blackout. That really shows the good stick ability of the pilot. Some of those gunshots were clearly going to miss because of incorrect lead, though. I like to practice in single player also shooting snapshots where you have different plane of motion wrt. enemy aircraft. So that you let the enemy fly left to right across the full view of the canopy into the gunsight and you keep your own wings level. Sort of like "ambush method" for deflection shooting. Shooting at front quarter snapshots can also end the fight quickly without risking full headon. With jets the closure rate is so insane that front quarter shots are more difficult. For those in-plane deflection shots where the target goes under the nose, I think sometimes the AI sees that and make a tricky dodge when its not visible to you xD.

Ace video! Yes please to more WW2 stuff! I really wish for a Pacific add on for IL2. That would be perfect...What's your thoughts on Rise of Flight WW1? Would be great to see you handle some of those classics

the 109 series will always be my favorite plane of that era, its such a beautiful plane.

Have you some brain injury? The 109 is a lumpy thing with and ugly cockpit canopy and a tail fin that can’t decide whether it wants to be angular or curved. Then there are the tail plane supports. Ugly as sin.

I will watch all of it. I would love to watch you master the WW1 planes. It’s historically interesting and it’s where it all started.

This is very interesting actually! Learning about WW2 planes. They aren't as boring as one may think. And the graphics are awesome. They even made those little flames come out of the engines' exhaust pipes! That is so cool! As i commented before, i'd leave no more than 1/3 of the time for tacview. And as regards to history of a given airplane, maybe you should just make separate videos about each one. There's a lot of them in different countries and it's very interesting to know which ones faced each other in real battles and which were victorious. There is literally a ton of info you could provide! I think it would be very, very interesting.

Really appreciate your channel. Have you considered a Final Count Down theme fight, where Zero’s and Tomcats fought. Would be neat to see 190s or 109s against F86 or F15s

Further to my last, I have a request. The Tempest is my preferred plane in IL 2 for a number of reasons so I was sorry to see the Tacview failed you. But for (hopefully) future IL2 videos, I wonder if you could make the HUD option available on the screen so that we can see your speed and Gs during manoeuvres. Cheers.

Most people don't know this but this is the best allied fighter of WW2. Just from its characteristics and from using it myself in sims. Post war, the griffon spits and p51H were great.

Late in the war the allied pilots always worked as a team of four or at least with a wingman. I'd love seeing two good pilots working together in warbirds.

I recently saw a documentary on the Tempest and a WW2 pilot they interviewed said it was common they would black out 3 or 4 times a flight. It seemed like their biggest issue too.
