The video itself is not bad but it has some errors, for example at 12:38 is said that the austrians advanced but then decided to retreat, in reality that was the solstice offensive an austrian offensive aimed to support the german spring offensive on the western front that failed due to the italian defense in depth (that is why you see the austrians advancing on the map), all the austrian gains were reversed by a well coordinated italian counter attack not by the decision by the austrian command to retreat its troops from the recently conquered ground. Also at 11:50 is said that only franco brithis divisions could save the situation for the italians but this is simply not true, the front stabilized before the arrival of foreign divisions due to a series of factors like the presence of a river to use as a defensive line (Piave river), austro-german supply lines streched thin, austro-german troops being tired, the italian scorched earth in the abbandoned regions that made impossible for the austro-germans to live off the land and forced them to get supplies all the way from austro-hungarian territory and on top of that a higher morale among the italian troops who now were fighting to defend their homeland not to invade foreign territories. Overall the video is quite historically accurate but has the tendency to downplay italian achievments and give credit for them to someone else. Judging from how the names of the towns are written the autor is probably a Slovenian and so is a bit biased torwards the austro-hungarian empire. Again the video is not austrian propaganda and remains pretty much accurate but i still wanted to point out this.
Thank you for posting! My great grandfather fought for Italy and was captured at the Trentino Offensive. Spent 2 years in a POW camp… I wish I knew which battle specifically
An Italian guy tried to make it sound like they ended up taking back their territory through winning - not Hungarians abandoning the front line and an Austro-German withdrawal.
This is how it works a war of attrition: the victory happens when the opponent army crumbles, as it happened in this case. Nonetheless is a victory, albeit costly.
It is actually partially true as the Vittorio Veneto offensive (the last italian attack shown in this video) managed quite successfully to destroy the already crumbling austro-hungarian army. It is true that the defection of many hungarian and slavic units of the austro-hungarian army at the same time played a crucial role but is also true that the italian army indeed carried a succesfull attack that put the last nail on the coffin of the austrian army. The ultimate austrian withdraw from the occupied italian territories was caused by both the italian attack and the desertion of a large portion of the non german speacking soldiers of the austro-hungarian army which lead to its ultimate defeat
So let me get this straight…. They 🇮🇹 ~3x the number of soldiers, but were pushed back to Piave river 😅 That is one of the biggest military blunders of all time 🕰️
Wooooow amazing work. Now nobody can say i dont know what happen on east front in ww1. Thank you. Best gift for christmas.cant wait for other years episodes.thank you guys🎉🥳🍻
attacks Austria, after initial surprise offensives all fail, "help me Russia heeeeellllpppp", proceeds to lose all gains and more, saved by Hungarians abandoning front as well as French and British aid, its over Italibros...
