You only KINDA miss Urza's block? It was the last block we had where the developers could, ya know, make the game FUN! Without having to worry about all that pussy shit like; Is your precious format "BaLaNcEd"?! 3 dozen cards have to be banned?? OOPS! My bad . . .
Yup I miss old magic too and I wasnt even playing at this time lol... Nowadays the game is just meh and the company and community for the most part is way to woke and political smh.. Its all garbage. Miss the days we didnt need to Care about some weird trash pronouns as well.
Starter set 1999 when I started playing it was rhox on the cover of the box came with a cd rom and 4 decks I think me and my friend put them together and play many memories I love magic
For anyone thinking why they are playing without sleeves its because non glare sleeves are not yet made during this time.they had to remove the sleeves just for the filming
So weird to see them play with all those cards that are worth big money today without sleeves! Urza block was so ridiculously powerful. Academy blue, Brokenjar, Tinker and Bargain in standard, Trix in extended: those were some crazy powerful decks. .
The more cards because money the worse the game became IMO... I don't mind cards being worth something.. But the amount these pieces of card board go for is just stupid and makes more sense to buy counterfeit cards... Double sleeved u can't even tell the difference. Proxies and counterfeits should be tournament legal... There's no reason they aren't. Or WoTC could easily just reprint everything that is worth alot so players can get the game pieces we need for tournaments.. There's no reason my 6 modern decks and my legacy decks cost more the a damn brand new car smh. Miss this game when others could afford it to play and have fun.
I can remember watching this on ESPN, at that time. My reasoning behind why ESPN canceled it: the fact the random shuffling and flipping through the card was to much to the viewer.
I would have them set to record on VHS and set my alarm for 1:50am sense they only showed Magic at around 2am. So I would watch and record it. I still have the VHS of Long vs ( I can't remember his name now but will change it when I do.) Long was playing Prosperous bloom And his opponent was playing Mono white. Long lost game one and the suddenly games 2 and 3 he somehow ALWAYS drew a Gloom right when needed it.... Because he lapped them and could just go get one as needed.
2024 i'm happy to see this for the first time, i used to have a white and blue nice deck with good combos. Most of my cards needed only one or 2 mana and 3 maximum... It was a very fast attacking deck...
@@swimcrafters1743 SO many.. And even AFTER the bans there were still something like 3 viable combo decks, stupid efficient sligh & draw go decks... I mean this was a special time in magic, never to be seen again, where you could play creatures like Morphling & Masticore !
It was good, but there were more insane matches. Brian Kibler vs Finkel comes to mind. That ending was so close for Finkel. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jedseuxEvxk.html
God, this was truly the last gasp of the "Wild West" Type 2 (what they used to call modern during this time), with gigantic banned/restricted lists cus of Urza's block just being beyond ridiculous. There were still something like what? 4? 5? Viable Combo decks: (Bargain, Time Spiral, Enchantress, technically/arguably Tinker), MONSTER fucking archetypes: Angry Hermit (which became angry blastoderm with no hermits), Sligh, draw go (because fucking MORPHLING)
Type 2 was the name for Standard, not Modern, but you're right otherwise. The internet was much different then, netdecking and access to information was much more limited. I think the late 90's, early 2000's era of Magic was, by far, the best era. These old videos got me feeling quite nostalgic.
This isn't a counter argument to your post, but how is this any different from watching poker on TV and listening to them endlessly unstack and restack their fucking chips? lol. So it boggles my mine as to why they would need to mute this. Anyways, again not an attack towards your post just me questioning reasoning haha.
Brian Well... I don't watch poker, for one... Second, yeah... That sounds like it would be annoying. You know what else is annoying? Lots of things, but thanks for the super specific comparison, I guess...
Crumbling sanctuary is esentially a lifegain spell. Everybodys life total becomes their libraries instead. And since the tinker deck dealt damage in huge chunks with minions and colossuses the symmetrical efefct didnt hurt you.
against the super aggressive decks, it buys the tinker deck a few turns to stabalize the board. After that, you can just tinker it away for a threat to do damage.
I realize it's been 4 months since you asked but I'll answer anyway. With crumbling sanctuary in play they can pay 19 life when casting phyrexian processor to make a 19/19 creature every turn, which wins the game on three turns, assuming a 60 card deck.
And also leave themselves wide open to a cheap burn spell, the sanctuary is honestly one of the most commonly tinkered into cards against any aggro deck.also that 19/19 doesn't have trample and can easily be blocked by any chump. The tinker deck requires patience and time to set up the win. you can't over commit on the processor without something like crumbling sanctuary in play to keep you in the game if they ax your tokens or even lightning bolt to the face.
Yeah but that's a three turn clock as opposed to a two turn clock... if you hit a player for 19 damage twice that's 38 damage which is plenty enough to kill them...
He's dead on board. Colossus can only be blocked by three or more creatures. Maher has to tap down all his lands to Tangle Wire, Finkel untaps his Colossus with the 2nd key he topdecked on his turn, blocks Masticore, swings back for lethal.
From what I can tell, his deck has a lot of effects that damage him. So you can use Crumbling to mill instead of hurt yourself, and you can also sacrifice the Crumbling to Tinker when you're ready to go in for the kill.
Sanctuary was there initially as an answer to aggro, Tinker it into play when you are short on life to give you time to stabilize. Also worked well with Processor.
+Michael Kasif so what? They didn't care. First of all, sleeves weren't allowed. Moreover, they were proplayers, not noobish traders. With their gains, they could have affored a few hundreds rishadans
Michael Kasif You didn't get it... Whatever. Top 8 roplayers back then just didn't think like that. They could afford any cards with their gains and didn't see card market as a business. They were way over it.
Michael Kasif Yes, it's hurting when you think at actual prices, from a collector pov. But in that case, cards should be regarded as sport gears, nothing more. It's funny tho how today's playthings can become tomorrow's treasures. Times change.
This is the game that made me hate competitive mtg. since then maro has been trying to repeat this same shit show and its turned the game into an unfun controlathon or a yugioh shit show. And 6:15 . Why is his ear twitching like that?
