It's ironic. One moment you have a quiet scene of the city - nothing is going on that's remarkable - and the next, there you have it - a plane is flying over the city. An average citizen from post-1998 Hong Kong would be like "WTF is happening here...?"
Nicely done, I was a beta tester for the 9 Dragons KaiTak scenery for FS9 so have flown this approach MANY times and you coped well with the crosswind.
Your videos are just great! Sometimes I have not enough time to fly, then I watch at least one of your videos. It makes a lot of fun to watch and listen and they are really informative, I already learned alot from your flights. Thank you!
Man flying into Kai Tak was truly an experience when I was in my teenage years. The best view was from the cockpit of a 747 or the nose in first class. It was so easy from airport to my hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui within 10 minutes on a good day by taxi. Now it takes over 30 minutes from airport to TST by the express train. By the way great videos Matt!
I was in Hong Kong in 1996. Yeah, the dramatic landing at Kai Tak Airport was a good introduction to the Hong Kong Beat. When the plane was coming down to land, look out the window at the ground, and the shoddy and packed apartment blocks get closer and closer, and your eyes get bigger and bigger. And then suddenly, they disappear and one sees grass, and then the runway. Looking sideways out the window, would see the ocean nearby.
Excellent video Matt. This is, in my opinion, your best series of video's. It is after all, the series from which I discovered your channel :-) I wonder if you might look at doing a video at Sandane. I've been flying around and looking the at Sandane area (ENSD) with it's NDB/LOC to circling approach in the Norwegian Fjords. Challenging and beautiful.
I did this approach for my 14th birthday in a. Professional 747 simulator,, almost a year ago. My guide said I was one of the only people to be able to pull this off! Had an amazing time and am going to do it again for my birthday this year hopefully!
Cool video, I used to fly this in a DC-8 in the early 70s and P-3s in the 80s, back then we had to worry about violating Chinese airspace, much steeper and greater rates of turn back then.
Nice video as usual Matt, when using fsrecorder to replay the NGX and 77X, you just have to arm the spoilers before touchdown, by using the Shift+/ key, if they are in the retracted before the start of the replay, or if they are deployed its / to retract then shift +/ to arm, it will work repeatedly.
Matt do you know if you can change the aersoft A318/19 mfds to set as captains only. Or if there is any performance improving tips as i stuggle to fly the thing with only about 5fps
Do you need a frequency/course for this approach? I'm currently flying from KLAX-VHHX and i've installed the "VHHX SID/STAR Hack" but there is nothing in the NAV RAD page of the FMC.
Perfect touchdown. Plus you're simulating very realistically to the original Kai Tak, my favorite airport in the world. But here are some suggustions -You're a little bit low and slow at Stonecutters area, making you seem struggling and dangerous holding the aircraft back onto the descend lane. -You didn't seem to align up with the runway13 at the certain point. The restriction wrote that you should be on the heading of 136° as soon as you're above the threshold of the stopway. -Finally, you can read the approach chart about this aerodrome. You will find that you're final airspeed is a little bit low, your descend from 300 to 30 is far too fast, and another thing is that you can probably turn of the Proximity Warning System according to the chart. Anyway, a good approach to a good airport. I like it.
Matt, when you install the scenery, you can have the option to install without the SDK I think, which takes away the ground polygons for the airport, but increases the frame rates dramatically...
I'm pretty sure I'm the only one on youtube with the name "Kefuddle" and I have never been a hater, Quite the opposite!!!! If you were able to look back on your streams and other vids you'll probably find those compliments in there somewhere. Never been a hater of anybody mate. All good :D
