*Warning*, you will get that uneasy vertigo feeling if you have a fear of heights.
This is the full hike from bottom to top, of Angels landing in Zion national park, Utah.
Filmed with gopro, it shows you what you will be seeing during the hike by getting a first person POV view of it.
This is one adrenaline packed hike that I would do again in a second!
Enjoy the video

Thank you, Dan. Marvelous! Did this for the first time 20 yrs ago (am now 80), and a couple times after that. I got more butterflies thru your video than I did doing them in person. It was so great seeing this realistically again in my twilight years, bringing back graphically those "WOW" moments. Truly AWE-some! Thanks again.. Much happiness to you throughout your life. Joe

Man I wish I could have done Angels Landing 20 years ago. Back in the day before there were crowds of people swarming up the hill. Did they have all the chains and everything 20 years ago? If not that would be a very intense hike.

the video makes it look much more hairy than it really is. On a summer day it gets pretty crowded going up here with people of all ages, including kids. Don't get me wrong, danger is there, but you aren't mountain climbing. It's just a hike.

We were there in May. Our group stopped at Scouts landing. This is the most detailed video I've found of the last 1/2 mile and confirms that we made the right decision to stop. I never thought I had a fear of heights before, but I did on that day.

The comment above inspired me to do it! I did a few weeks ago for spring break and I was so terrified (I cried a little, lol) but I'm so glad I did it. All of these go pro videos make it seem a LOT more steep than it is. It was scary but I went slowly and the rocks have a lot of traction. Definitely worth it.

I am aiming for Devils Castle, Alta Utah ... in August as a warm up for this hike. I overcame my fear of spiders now onto heights. I've grown up in the mountains though so I have that working for me. I feel as though my heart resides with them they are such a source of strength for me. I don't want to fear them...I want to be synchronized with my gentle giants... but always with the utmost respect. Remember the mountain's always have the last say. So courageous! great video... very inspiring.

Well for one thing bring water and lots of it. Not sure what time of the year you plan to do the hike but it can get really hot in the summer and freezing in the winter. I done this hike in the fall and spring and it was perfect. Also a really good pair of hiking shoes is a must. Don't use a cheap pair of shoes. And most of all bring your nerves of steel. This is not a hike for people afraid of heights. But it is an awesome hike if you can handle heights. Be careful.

I made this hike in 1998 or 1999...it was the scariest hike I have ever made...and I had forgotten just how many chains there are, and how many spots I had felt my stomach fall someplace south of my ass! I loved doing this hike, but dealing with droves of young people coating the trail in May was not the safest situation. I would have rather the ice over the early-20's bro-fest, clowning around me when I was a meter away from plunging to my death. I'm 1000% down for extreme, but I would like to have my life in my own hands. so, I suggest if you are interested in doing this trek, do it before peak season. Angels Landing is one of the most incredible places I have been. if you are looking for breathtaking views...this is the quintessential rock to peer from.

I'm physically fit and strong but have a little knee pain. I want to do this hike but after watching this video, feel like I need to be in peak condition to do it safely. Regrettably, I'll stay off this trail. What's most concerning is what Top Roll Novice mentioned in his post; "early-20's bro-fest" groups clowning around. I agree that this hike is to be taken 100% seriously. The last thing I'd want is some idiot horsing around on a ledge with a 1,000ft drop-off. Thank you so much for sharing this video. Watching you climb the last part of it so fast was incredible. You didn't stop or even take a drink of water.

This is easier than it looks. Don't even really need the chains. Went in Jan. '18 in dry perfect uncrowded conditions. Park rec. NOT climbing this in icy/windy conditions. I agree. Know the forecast before going. Training tip: Your one hour gym sessions will help, but even better would be long 3-4 hour weekend hikes to build endurance. At the very least do squats, lunges, and core work at home. If you have a problem with heights/balance, you can still hike to the base and get some beautiful pictures! It's a pretty short trail though, and if you stop frequently to take pictures and rest it's really not that hard...

the kid in the shorts ahead of you on the way down made me nervous. Like I seriously expected to see a person fall to his death in your video. The way he casually jumped from one rock/step to another. And either his backpack was heavy, or he had awful body/balance control, he was swaying too much! I think I could do this, but then at 43:15 there's a root in an opening, and NO CHAINS! Until you get past it - What?!? I have two months to mentally and physically prepare myself. A couple times I got scared - like when you changed your camera or something (after 43:15), and I thought, "Oh sh*#!! He fell!" Thank you for making it down safely! And thanks for the great video, It was "fun" to watch!

Watch from 10:00 to see the part with "a roof" where there's no chains... it seems different from the other side.

Wife and our 4 daughters ages 17 - 10 yrs have done this a few times. So beautiful!!! Summer the place is packed with hundreds on the trail. I think the shaky, rapid twisting of the camera is misleading. While, perhaps not a hike for a 4yr old, it's not disorienting like the cameraman would make it appear.

Randall, is vertigo an issue on this hike? If so, how did you and your family members deal with it?
@wlouisharris
@wlouisharris 6 лет назад
Yah - you are right - the shaky and twisting camera makes it seems more unstable than it is. It is still terrifying but if you just take it one foot after another it can be done. I really had to will myself to do this.

I climbed angels landing to the top last year when I was 16 with my dad. It was June 3, 2020. To be honest, I haven’t been the same since. It was so beautiful at the top and it gave me chills. I took at least 500 photos and tons of videos. I also went on the absolutely perfect day for the hike. Covid precautions were strict in the area at the time, so once we got in we were literally the only people up there. When I say only, I’m being literal. We literally sat at the summit for at least a half hour and we saw maybe two people. Not to mention the weather was absolutely perfect. Clear blue skies, light breeze, maybe 73-74 degrees. We packed light as well, just a water bottle and some granola bars. It was treacherous and I had to be careful at some points, but it wasn’t scary. Overall, it was the best hike I’ve ever done and probably in my top 10 best days ever.

I just did this hike last week with a ton of ice and snow. It was very beautiful, not dangerous at all. Your camera makes it look very scary and it's not scary in reality, just beautiful.

I think that in all fairness that it should be noted that this hike was made to look ALOT more precarious than it really is. It is not the edge of a cliff hike that this looks like here with clever camera angles. However, doing it with snow and ice adds some danger to the mix. Otherwise, it is easily doable by all but the youngest children and those people who are frail or those who have a severe phobia of heights. Yes, a few people have died on this hike but mostly by freak accidents. You have to consider that it is climbed by hundreds of people a day of all ages and condition. You'll see when you climb it with all the other every day ordinary folks that will be with you on the pilgrimage up to the top. It's rather enjoyable but it is a trek to the top. Take lots of water and food for energy and enjoy!

J Kessler it has some spots that are precarious. It isn't camera trickery, it's POV filming.

Fisheye lenses on Gopro make knife ridges and the like look a lot more pronounced. This hike isn't an exception to that.

J Kessler yeah I did this in March and it's maintained by the national park service so it's very safe but make sure you check weather conditions before going because ice and rain can add problems to the mix.

As someone who (was a resident of Springdale for a few years and) has done this hike numerous times I have to disagree. I don't think anything shown in this video was misrepresented. I agree that it is doable by most, but to say it was deliberately made to look A LOT more precarious than it really is is simply not accurate. There definitely are some drop-offs along the way.

Just did this hike today! I always said I would only do scouts lookout but never angels landing but when I got up there I just had to do it. I have a fear of heights too so I have no idea how I did it. I am sooooo happy I did it though, still can't believe it.

Not even half way through and I'm truly blown away that this is a real hiking trail! Definitely doing research about this place after completing the video. The footage was indeed insane but the thing that really scared me was around 13:01 where you do speed up the footage and it's all rough! I legit thought you dropped the camera and thats when I jumped hahah. Awesome video!
