I and a pal did it in 1969 in an old wooden canoe. Missed the tide at Teddington lock and finished the race under Westminster bridge after tipping over the boat in rough water, then losing it (later found down river) whereupon climbing up the stones walls, after a swim, to complete . What a time in life! 😅

I asked you for advice before my first race in 2017 and your advice was 'portaging is the key to a decent time'....And you were right😊 Great video. I'd love you to describe the parts of the course for those that don't know it, plus how mere mortals ought to tackle different parts of it....

how does it end in Westminster bridge? are the boats allowed to race there while the tourist boats are on the thames? Didn't know about this race. seems very fun

Yes, you make your way all the way into the city passed the tourist boats, but there are fewer of them out early Sunday morning. And finish under the right hand arch of Westminster Bridge! Unfortunately this year the course finished at Teddington, due to the highest water flow seen in years. The port of London, closed the Thames causing the race to make an adjustment. Last year, and next year, the finish line will be under the iconic bridge at Westminster!
