A pair of con rods where the gudgeon pin (wrist pin) runs straight in the rod.
Here's how to recover them by fitting bushes, nice straightforward job.

Excellent explanation of the purposes and machining. Very high standard of knowledge in machining, metallurgy, measurements of all types, patterns and angles! First-rate equipment. SHOW! Thankful!

Excellent video. I like the use of chuck Jaws as parallels. Congrats on 2000 subscribers. You deserve a lot more. I'm in isolation for work and I am watching your entire back catalogue in chronological order. The way you explain things is superb. It feels like I've popped in your workshop and you are showing me a set up. Thanks.

Ha, I'm in isolation too, got notification from our test and trace system, a guy at work tested positive. So I get time in the workshop, back onto the BSA engine at present. I've been watching lots of RU-vid also, but astronomy videos!

@@AGEngineering I'm in isolation as I have to be tested prior to joining a ship. I'm in Norway just now. Glad to hear you are back on with the BSA, look forward to your next video.

Is this for press fit or floating
@AGEngineering
@AGEngineering 3 месяца назад
Bush is press fit in rod, reamed for a sliding fit of the gudgeon pin.

While your clamping down force was adequate you should have provided some lateral movement provision on the rod end. Even with small cuts the rod end could have moved and at the very least chattered.

your bore was made 0.8771" what is the O.D of your bushing? and do you know how many pounds your press exerted for the press fit?

In a word or two, no and not a lot, sorry that's not much use but it was a while ago so the only info is in the video. Many thanks for watching and commenting however, much appreciated.

Hello friend..what the material is that bushing?
@AGEngineering
@AGEngineering 3 месяца назад
They were supplied to me, most likely an SAE660 or similar bearing bronze.

So do most rods have room to open them up 1mm on the small end? There's no inexpensive (read, mega cheap) oversize aftermarket pistons for my Miata. Cheap/available Honda B20 high comps will work with the necessary deck and head cleanup I'll be doing, and may actually help me to clean the deck/head up fully without decreasing squish too much... if I can run the 21mm pin in the 20mm original hole, I'd be seeeettt for about $200 bearings and a gasket set and some machine work to clean it all up.

I would think most can be taken out by a mm or so, you would have to make a judgement call on that. In my case the rods were made in with and without versions depending on the year. Good luck with the bike whatever you end up doing, Regards, Ade.

They seem to be monster rods, with huge bottom end clearance (for a roller bearing?). They must be off two separate singles are they?

Same procedure for a steel con rod ?
@AGEngineering
@AGEngineering Год назад
Usually not much material around the small end to rebore, you would have to carefully assess if it would weaken it too much. Also be aware of steel rods where the pin is a press fit in the rod and floating in the piston bosses. Many thanks for following, Ade

👍on 2k I wonder why they cheapskated by not putting bushes in as standard? Just an aside, the BMW book shows the "approved" way is to fit the bushes and then mount the rods on a face plate with the big end clamped on a dummy big end to ensure both rod lengths are identical when boring to a firm thumb push fit, mismatch being more noticeable on boxer engines than vertical twins. The alignment to the gudgeon pin is within a couple of thou, the rod bushes could now be reamed as a pair clamped to a common crank pin
@sundarAKintelart
@sundarAKintelart 3 года назад
Nice. Is aligning center of this hole to that of the center of crankshaft end necessary?
@AGEngineering
@AGEngineering 3 года назад
It's within a couple of thou centering on the existing hole, from the point after the bushes are fitted they could be bolted to a common pin an reamed together but few would do this in reality. Thanks for watching and commenting.
