You are spot on in many of your comments here. The girls in Babymetal all started out in a Japanese talent school called Sakura Gakuin (its heavy music section). Babymetal introduced a new genre called Kawaii Metal (cute metal), so your comment on mixing "Disney type" song and dance with metal music is describing it in "American" language. And your comment about this music attracting people of all ages and taste still applies today. I saw them in Munich last year (I'm from Malta), and the crowd was inter-generational. I've also read that one of the purposes for which Babymetal was conceived was to attract younger generations to Metal music during a time when Metal music was getting "boring" and needing something fresh. The growling in the video is a backing track. By the way, the lyrics of the song is about playing hide and seek with an ogre. 😉 Thanks for reacting to this, and don't worry about your comments. I'd rather be "offended" by someone being honest, than be flattered by someone desperate to please 😉 🤘🦊🤘🇲🇹

Ha! He smiled to the "Moa slide" 😄 "Slipknot" was a good analogy tho... BABYMETAL fans often say, that this was the "teenage girl version of Slipknot". Su-Metal recently said, that she would like to do a collab with Slipknot... maybe we might hear and see "Catch Me If You Can" again? #TeamBabyKnot🤣 Nice reaction! Yes, the western crowds are VERY mixed, at the concert I visited I saw some biker guys with patched-all-over-with metal-band-patches-vests showing hearts with their hands to the ladies and smiling brightly, as they got one back from Momometal... heartwarming 😄 Directly behind them was a couple, I assume they were from Ethiopia, as they wore traditional Ethiopian clothing... boys, girls, old, young, all together having fun with BABYMETAL. Japanese crowds are mostly Japanese, I would say, but quite a bunch of Westerners in it, too...

_Maada da yo!_ 🦊🤘👠 Glad to see you're back with this suggestion and keep enjoying your BM journey. Highly suggest to watch a full BM updated guide called "The Not So Extensive Guide To BabyMetal" by A Fox Song. This song is among many BM fans one of the most representative of their kawaii metal sound, is heavy but is cute or kawaii at the same time with so much energy and crazy circle pits and mosh from the crowd, not on this performance but you'll see that in another. This was live at Budokan Arena 2014 reaching a huge milestone with only 14 and 16 yo, after this they started the World Tour and reaching the Sonisphere Festival. This time the Kami Band playing in order are: Leda Cygnus and Takayoshi Ohmura on guitars, BOH on that freaking monster 6-String bass, and Hideki Aoyama on drums. All of them are possessed by the Fox God the moment they step up on the stage, and I'm not even joking. This super fun kickass song is about hide & seek tag game, but isn't just any other regular child play, they're playing with an Oni, a mythological japanese creature human flesh eater 👹👀 This is heavy af. You can also noticed the punk section, many people reminds it the sound of some of the US rock punk like The Offspring or Green Day (btw last weekend they took a photo with them in Germany and later met The Offspring among many more rock and metal legends), and the heavy part got some Slipknot vibes, another band they met since a very long time and last April were together at the same festival in Las Vegas and meeting each other once again, there you go with Mickey Mouse club lol No one is credited for the growls and harsh vocals during early era, after 2019 they started to feature special guests such Alissa White-Glutz for Distortion and MomoMetal the new member on certain songs. Kami Band intro are rare and only on certain songs but throughout different live performance you'll hear slightly different changes because like i said, not always were the same members and even the same members sometimes change their solo a little bit. If you want more melting faces intro you should go for: - YAVA! live at Fox Festival 2017 - Awadama Fever live at Fox Festival 2017 - Kagerou live at Metal Galaxy 2020 (West Kami Band) - METALI!! live at NEX_FEST in Japan 2023 official live. But my next suggestion is: - Megitsune official MV. Thanks for sharing this and see you next time.🦊🤘🔥

Nice, and welcome back to Babymetal! I think other's have already mentioned that this show was Mar 2014. Also, I would like to add that while the Kami Band is a "session" band, their core members have been very stable: *Mikio Fujioka* (Not in this show), *Leda Cygnus* (Gold/Black Guitar), and *Takayoshi Ohmura* (Pink Glam Guitar) switches out from show to show, along with *BOH* (6-string bass), and *Hideki Aoyama* (Drums). These 5 have played the vast majority of Babymetal's shows from 2012 - 2023. Mikio unfortunately passed away in 2018. There are of course other members that rotate in and out. In 2019, Kami West was added to assist with increased tour intensity, and these guys became the sole backing band since Apr 2023: *Chris Kelly* (Guitar), *CJ Masicantonio* (Guitar), *Clint Tustin* (Bass), and *Anthony Barone* (Drums). *Ryan Neff* replaces Clint a number of time since Clint is also in ERRA band. Aside from Jan 2023's show (Kami East's last show), the former 4 have been backing Babymetal since 2019, and Ryan Neff recently took Clint's spot a number of times in 2023/2024. I would like to suggest that you check out one of their newest performances as well. While we all love the early Babymetal, they have definitely evolved and matured. Not only are they in their mid-20s now, but their vocal maturity, skill, showmanship have all improved and matured. And, of course, Kami West has a slightly different feel vs Kami East. Afterall, the vibes we get from this specific performance will never come back, as Babymetal can't go back to being 14/16, lol. If you don't mind a repeat, check out *Road of Resistance* from Pia Arena MM, 2023 to see the 9+ year difference. Or, you can do a new song, *Monochrome,* from Pia Arena MM, 2023 as well. Cheers! 🤘🦊

Been a bit since I've commented on one of your vids TECK, seen quite a few suggestions already for the next Babymetal, personally from here I would probably go with a double reaction for the next one, between Headbanger live @ Legend 1997 (Year the lead singer, Su, was born, not the year it took place) with Moabanger (Special version of headbanger) as the second or Monochrome live at PIA with Monochrome Piano version on The First Take being the second. Also saw someone mention Tales of the Destinies, you being an instrumentalist, you'll love that one, but I won't spoil the reason why. Also as you could probably guess, Grington300 and jakemuller8626 are practically Babymetal encyclopedias, if you have a question about Babymetal, 99.9% of the time, they'll have the answer.

There is something particularly enjoyable about seeing a reactor-yourself-who knows stuff. You know about music. Comes from a totally different cultural background. Has lots of questions/issues et al. And start to see-in spite of all the WTF unfolding in front of you-that a little bit of the Babymetal magic may be starting to have an effect. I got into Black Sabbath's first album way back in Jr. High. That's to say I've listened to a lot of metal-and loved it too. But honestly none of it has ever hit me quite the way Babymetal has. I'm not positive but I'm guessing this concert is from 2014 or '15. At this point these young teens were already seasoned pros. They'd been training, practicing and performing for years. And this was not given to them. When they started they played at malls, small rooms. They had no budget for costumes which they collected from friends and family. They didn't have money for a band and performed to pre-recorded backing tracks. They've worked for what they have. And are still going strong-with one personnel change-today. To have the confidence to perform in front of tens of thousands and hold that crowd's rapt attention means they have something and it's been working for well over 10 years now. That's all to say-for me at least-I don't care how Babymetal came into existence. They've more than earned my respect and I am thankful for all the musical joy they provide me!

Mickey Mouse club meets metal is probably not a bad analogy. /ducks for cover BabyMetal originally came out of Sakura Gakuin which was a school themed idol project started by Amuse in 2010. BabyMetal, or the heavy music club, was devised as part of this as being kawaii metal (cute metal) with Su being picked as the lead due to her vocal ability and Yui & Moa as backup to provide the dance and twins/sisters vibe. As others have suggested you should watch the Not So Extensive Guide from April this year as it provides a lot of lore and history. This video is from a show in 2014. If you notice the barriers around the stage these were due to Yui falling off the previous night. Sort of after the event health and safety. Anyway enjoy the journey; there's lots more to see.

Good one, thanks! I don't get the Mickey mouse club reference because I am European, metalhead old-school, into heavy, thrash and death metal now converted into a kitsune, haha... Kobayashi (lifelong metalhead and with many contacts within the industry) found himself producing a kids section in his company (Amuse). He felt that metal was decadent at the time, far away from its former glory. So, he got the idea of blending both worlds: kawaii, represented by kids (very young idols, actually) singing and dancing and metal. It was a crazy idea and a potential disaster (to his credibility at least). But he succeeded because he used a trick: respect. Respect to music, to every genre and to the people involved. BOH, the bassist in this video, told in an interview many years ago that he got only one requirement before joining the Kami Band: to play loud as hell (literally pedal to the metal). Koba assumed that the musicians would freak out when they know that the vocalist was a teenage girl. And wanted to make sure they were giving their 100%. This is respect. And it worked. According to the last census, only the 51,5% of the fans come from the metal scene which speaks about their transversality. And that also applies to the age range. But it seems that younger people are more willing to embrace what they do (and that's the point, I guess). 🤘🦊

Good reaction. Welcome to the crazy universe of BabyMetal. BabyMetal is an atypical heavy metal group, because they are idols. In Japan, idols are often paired with pop music (Jpop), and Babymetal was actually a subgroup of a larger idol group called Sakura Gakuin. Sakura was made up of girls between 10 and 15 years old dedicated to Jpop. When SuMetal (the singer) started she was 12 years old and MoaMetal/YuiMetal (the backup singers) were only 10 years old. Sakura represented the Japanese high school and the girls were distributed in clubs (traditional Japanese extracurricular activities such as cooking, swimming, basketball, sewing, etc.). One of the producers, a lover of heavy metal, saw that Su's singing could perfectly be used in metal and asked permission from the Mother House (Amuse) to create the heavy music club, proposing an experiment in fusion between metal and the pop. Nobody, as they themselves have confessed, had much hope for its outcome, but they gave it the green light and thus BabyMetal, Sakura Gakuin's heavy music club, was born. The first songs were intended for girls between 10 and 15 years old, who were Sakura's target audience. However, their quality and the fusion between pop and metal attracted attention beyond this audience and they began to frequent their metal concerts... a shocking audience of children and metalheads. And it worked, it worked so well that they began to support groups like Metallica, Red Hot, BMTH or Lady Gaga, I seem to remember, on their tours in Japan. And the Red Hot singer commented that he was impressed to realize that part of the public came to see them, not them. And so the base of BabyMetal fans grew. Sakura was a group in which, upon turning 15, the members had to leave (to pursue their careers elsewhere) and the producer (KobaMetal) requested permission again to create BabyMetal as an independent group. Success was already beginning to become a reality in Asia, so they authorized it, although Moa and Yui (they were still 13 years old) would also continue to be part of other Sakura clubs (I don't know when the poor girls studied, but they did). In 2014 a milestone would arrive in the group's history. They were already an established metal group in Asia that sold out concerts, but they had not yet made the leap to the West. In that year his song "Gimme Chocolate" rose to fame on RU-vid (currently 182M views) and attracted the attention of the producers of the Sonisphere festival. KobaMetal had doubts about taking the step, since their musical proposal (Kawaii Metal or Cute Metal, a genre of which they are considered creators) might not be accepted in the West and the metalheads who went to the Sonisphere had a reputation for saying goodbye to very bad manners to the artists they didn't like (even with bottles full of urine), but they were offered to go to one of the secondary stages (about 5000 spectators) and they ended up accepting. But the success of BabyMetal on RU-vid and the fact that all the concerts they were going to give in Europe were sold out in a few days, convinced the producers to take them to the main stage, where they would share with groups like Metallica, for example. How many girls (they were between 16 and 14 years old at that time) were "terrified" before going out, and they didn't know what scared them more: that they wouldn't understand their music and they would have to run away or that when they went out on stage it would be empty. . But the story was very different, not only was it not empty, but more than 50,000 metalheads, an estimated 95% of whom had never heard of them, finished their fifth and last song chanting "another one, another one." And that's how they achieved popularity in the West as well. They currently have 4 albums on the market: -Babymetal (2013): Their first album and the most childish of all, since they were between 15-13 years old when it came out and had energetic, positive music that left a smile on their faces. -Metal Resistence (2016): an album that, without losing the essence of the first, shows more mature music, going from childhood to adolescence. Songs like Karate were a large part of his presentation in the West. -Metal Galaxy (2018): a turning point in its style. Without abandoning their energy, they turned their attention to new forms of metal fusion (hip-hop, dance music, Hindu music or European folklore, among others), projecting a much more mature music in keeping with their age, which was already around 21 years old. of Su and the 18 of Moa (unfortunately Yui left the group due to health problems). And now in 2023 they have just released their new album "The Other One", which is, again, totally different from what they have done until now (one of the hallmarks of BabyMetal is that their songs are usually very different some from others (although they are all positive adrenaline releases). Currently BabyMetal is considered the most important Heavy Metal group in Japan (I'm not saying the best, that's for everyone to decide) and the most influential in history in the West (it has reached levels that no other Japanese heavy group has reached before). ). The journey through the Babymetal galaxy may be long, but it is certainly entertaining and with a few songs it drags you with a smile into the fox hole

Good reaction - and yes for an American I guess the nearest thing you have that you can relate to BABYMETAL's beginnings that might make any sense would probably be the Mickey Mouse Club (although it really wasn't the same thing at all, but if it helps you to begin to understand the concept then fair enough, go with that). This video may have been uploaded 2 years ago, the concert was March 2014 (same concert as the 'Rondo of Nightmare' performance you watched). 'Catch Me If You Can' is the best metal song about playing a game that's a sort of cross between tag, blind man's bluff and hide & seek I've ever heard. It is the perfect mix of the two extremes with the brutal instrumentals and the sweet vocals - and the game they are playing, they're playing with an Oni👹 (a sort of Japanese ogre popular in regional festivals and used specifically to frighten children ... which amuses me probably more than it should😁). The growling vocals (these have always been on backing track, nearly always anonymous, along with additional instruments like piano, synth, strings etc and additional vocals like some harmonies, choral bits etc) are the Oni asking things like "Are you ready?" and the best response has to be "Maada da yo" (No, not yet) while doing a running away from an Oni dance.🏃‍♀🏃‍♀🏃‍♀👹 You will see the most diverse crowds at a BABYMETAL concert ranging from small girls dressed as BABYMETAL dancing in the aisles or sitting on their father's shoulders, people of all ages 5 to 80 and everything in between, tattooed, bearded metalheads, girlie pop fans, married couples in their 30s, teens, addled old rockers who thought music died after the 70s until they discovered BABYMETAL and found there was some life left in music after all, all nationalities, all backgrounds ... basically anybody and everybody and they will all be having the time of their lives.🦊

And I’ve seen everything from Metallica to Mayhem and Deicide. Just pure fun.

As many said already, this is much older than 2020.. Just BM decided to post it on YT. This song was last performed in 2017 (Osaka Fox Festival).. Which was the last time Yui performed as she left the group and has not been seen since. It was also the last time the East Kamis ever did a Solo intro. One Kami member is missing in these earlier official vids, is guitarist Mikio Fujioka, he was Kami member since 2013. He solos were always great. He unfortunately died at the beginning of 2018, from injuries received in a fall almost a week earlier. The Japanese Kami Band has not performed for Babymetal since January 2023.

@@teckreactions The loss of Mikio was huge. He was a very special person and guitar player. Quite a character. And very loved. He had a special way of playing his solos where he constantly used the whammy bar. When he fell he was at a platform doing stargazing. It is said that Yui was very fond of him and took his death very hard.

I see that you already have got answers, but anyhow. I just want to tell you you are spot on with Mickey Mouse club. All three girls were in an idol factory called Sakura Gaukin. All three of them showed great promise. Su with her strong stage presence and her very good singing. The two dancers as good dancers and having tons of energy and were very mischievous and very best friends since they were very small. So, a guy called Koba saw possibilities and made Babymetal. He is called Koba-metal, the same way the girls add - metal to their names. The idea was to combine heavy metal with cute girls. To make a long story short - he succeeded. And now the cute girls are pretty women, except that one of the women is not the original one. BTW - my favorite songs * Megitsune (MV, NOTE - do NOT let anybody lure you to look at any live stuff. The MV is epic.) * Yava (Live) * Death (Several versions, the most epic is Legend 1997) * BxMxC (MV) * Doki doki morning (MV, their first song. It is super cute. And, it is actually VERY good) * GJ (Live, Black Babymetal) * Headbanger (Live) * Pa pa ya (Live) * Sis anger (Live, Black Babymetal) * Tales of destinies (Live) Black Babymetal is Yui and Moa. So that Su can rest her voice.

This concert was ten years ago at The Budokan. They performed two nights running in March 2014 with 55,000 people in the audience both nights playing a completely different set list each time. The youngest group ever to appear at this prestigious venue with an average age of under 15 at that time. They haven't performed this song since 2017 to my knowledge, shortly before Yui left with undisclosed health issues. Now they've grown up more I doubt that Moa could manage the slide between Su's legs now anyway apart from it being about a children's game which might be inappropriate as they are now in their mid twenties.

Saying the "Mickey Mouse Club" isn't far off. The girls started off in a similar project called Sakura Gakuin, Cherry Blossom Academy, where they did skits, and song and dance, and was very much like the Mickey Mouse Club, and it's purpose was to develop young talent. Babymetal was an offshoot of Sakura Gakuin, and it split off eventually because it just works. Babymetal was not planned to be a success, it was a one off experiment by a producer who loves metal and found himself producing teenage girls in a Mickey Mouse club. But the experiment succeeded beyond hope. Anyway, Mickey Mouse meets Slipknot is apt.

Yes, it was The Mickey Mouse Club, and these 3 girls were on a tv show in Japan as middle schoolers. It was a show about kids in middle school, and these 3 girls were in the heavy music club. When Su aged out of the show, one of the producers came up with putting these 3 pop singers in front of a metal band. It just works. Idk who was growling in this song, but Su san do it, and so can MoMo. They do mot do it all that much, though.

That's not quite right. Sakura Gakuin was a school themed Idol group, not a TV show. They performed a lot of live concerts and other events, many of which were sold as DVDs and blu-rays. It began in April of 2010, and BABYMETAL started as one of its sub-units in October 2010. BABYMETAL's lead singer Su-metal (Suzuka Nakamoto, or Su) graduated from Sakura Gakuin at the end of March in 2013. That's when BABYMETAL became an independent group. Kei Kobayashi (Kobametal or Koba) had the idea for BABYMETAL before Sakura Gakuin began. He attended the "Farewell Concert" of Su's group Karen Girl's (a J-Pop trio) at the end of March in 2009. According to interviews, that's when he decided to build a metal group around her.

@@teckreactions It was uploaded 2 years ago by a fan. If you check the description, the uploader provided the source info: "BABYMETAL Live at Budokan: Black Night Apocalypse (March 2, 2014)." Babymetal have released a bunch of live concert Blu-rays and Budokan 2014 is one of them. Most of the footage from these concerts available on RU-vid has been uploaded by fans. Babymetal themselves have uploaded only a small fraction of it, like the Road of Resistance video you watched (filmed in 2015), on their official channel. The Budokan is a prestigious venue. Babymetal were the youngest female group, with an average age of 14.6, to perform there in 2014 when they held two concerts on consecutive nights (Red Night & Black Night). They returned to the Budokan for 10 shows from January through April in 2021 to celebrate their 10th anniversary. New member Momoko was still just an Avenger (support dancer) during those 2021 shows. Yui, one of the founding members, left the group in 2018. Momoko was one of several support dancers who had been brought on to fill her spot and she was finally made a full member in 2023.
