This is the information the people need! Thank you for such a concise and informative video. It will help me greatly when considering my next candle purchases. Keep up the great work Drew!
I used to go into to Yankee Candle weekly. I told the manager over and over again that the candles used to throw well. I told her that Yankee used to be special because it was an event going into the store. She poo pooed me and that store is now closed. I LOVED Yankee and they just nose dived when they sold to a big company. I don't want my Yankee candle from a department store. Oh well.
Thanks for sharing! I agree the Capri Blue doesn't melt completely. That said, I got the Woodwick FireSide (the tall hourglass one) and it melted very evenly all the way down with no tunneling so I would give it a try. Throw was strong as well.
Great review and ty for being honest. Candies are expensive and we want performance. The blue Java banana smells good, I’ll look at discount stores and make melts if I find it.
Omg! Drew! I love that volcano scent but I agree 100% on the burning and I’m sad about their response. And I was wondering about the Woodwick candles - I had 2 kids back to back and stopped with candles for a few years and just came back to Woodwick and noticed their shortcomings right away! I tried Root Candles based on your recommendations and am super happy with them! Thank you for doing this video. And I love the nailssssss! ❤️
Glad i watched this i was planning to order woodwick in US to be shipped to ph. Yeah you used to love woodwick 😔I found out about woodwicks through your channel. Appreciate this review Drew. Love from 🇵🇭
I was SO EXCITED to get 4 new WoodWick candles! I thought I was doing the right thing and buying through their online store...through Yankee. I've never been so deterred from online shopping - they forgot to pack an item...and also, one of the ellipse candles' wicks is literally on the side of the wax...WTF???
1st time here. Thanks for the reviews and heads-up on these candle brands. I am trying Prosper and Bloom no throw (probably 1 or 2), Kirkwood Wild and Amber no throw (probably 2) and Huntington Home from Aldi strong throw ( probably 9 to 10). Thanks for the tips.🙂
Well, I just bought an Onyx Evening and it doesn’t perform 🤣 Just like you said, just a tiny blue flame…I hope it depends on scent, because my new Coconut island candle smells like they used to. But Onyx evening is junk.
Lol, loved it Drew. Guess what, I've been watching you since you're 11. OG. Haha this 42 year old now mom just thinks you're awesome. I remember all those CBV reviews. They may not burn the cleanest and definitely stock fragrances but I have had some of them 10+years and still strong. Would love to hear your recommendations on what brands to look for at TJmaxx or other outlet places. That's my life these days. Stay strong, young man!
I am almost 42 and have also been watching Drew since the beginning. Before I started watching I could not have cared less about candles. Haven't thought about CBV for a long time!! Drew, what happened to all of your old videos?
I tried Otherland, never again. Their candles tunnel so I don't even want to buy them anymore. I also think they put 90% of their budget into the packaging, the actual candle itself is either boring or outright badly formulated scent that is unpleasant. I study fragrance chemistry and their Canopy scent was probably the worst, most bland scent ever, but also kind of nauseatingly sweet. It makes total sense that they buy off the shelf fragrance formulations, because they do smell extremely generic for anyone who's been into candle or soap design for a while. Lazy, and I won't reward laziness in formulation. I also cannot believe they don't even provide a lid for a $36 matte glass jar (also, who told them matte white was a good idea?! Good luck keeping that nice for any length of time.)
Totally agree and I wish I has seen this before I purchased my first candle from Anthro. this year. I burned my new candle overnight the first use and it never burned to the sides. I tried everything, including cutting down the wick etc.., In fact it smelled great before burning but had no throw while burning, all I smell is a burning smell from the wick.
Hi I love your video, I wanted to ask if you have any videos about candles you like and recomend. And maybe tips. I wanted to buy a present for my mom and some friends, And I thought that woodwick was a cool concept. But first I wanted to buy some small samples to see if they smell nice, before I commit to a large candle 😅 So I ordered a few ones from Yankee and woodwick. But I have no idea on anything else, but I'd love to learn more. And you have a nice way of talking about the topic.
The Capri Blue is a complete disappointment. I unfortunately bought the colossal size of this candle and it’s almost $200 😩 I bought it twice because I wanted to give them another chance but it’s not me the consumer, it is definitely them! Customer service is not nice and I know how to burn a candles. From BBW to Byredo. Great review! Thank you, Drew!
so glad I saw this before I ordered otherland based off your first review of them so wondering if the quality changed or what? hadn't heard about them till today just started watching reviews when I saw yours .
I got my first wood wick candle last year aaaand it was a little underwhelming. I loved the fragrance and got a small one on sale. But the wick was underwhelming. I burned it on my nightstand so I cant say if it had good throw (dont think so) but I think I maybe got halfway through it and lost interest. Did not spark joy lol.
I like WoodWick, however l get the little crackle ones that are a little bigger than tealights. They preform ridiculously well and can burn all night. Bc they are wood wick the burn time is extremely long, so they can last a week more if you don't burn them all night like l do. The smell is also awesome. The only thing l dont like is l can only find the small ones at Walmart, and not all of them carry.
I haven't had much luck with bath and body works in the last two years. The quality has really gone down and just don't last like they used to. I've switched to goosecreek candles and I've never been happier. They are economical, last forever (2 wick jars), and have so many scents. I will agree with Capri blue, they suck, no throwing power reminds me of the ones you get at the dollar tree.
I just discovered goose creek and wow am I impressed!! Burning my first candle from them now it’s Carmel apple lane!! I have two more huge orders coming in so happy!!
I feel like Capri Blue is overhyped on its throwing power. My 8 oz Nest candle throws better. I did try to fit a yankee candle topper on top of the Capri Blue opening and it didn’t exactly fit but it made it pooled out. The volcano scent has a very unique scent though and BBW sun washed citrus may be close but not exactly like it.
My Yankee candle Candle's tunnel also, they pool at 1st but before it reaches a full pull about 30 mins in my flames start to get very small about an hour later it's practically no flame , I do everything to fix the wick and it fizzles out to no flame but a dud every time within 30 mins - hour every time
@@dsyauch u should look into it...since a was a child, its been part of my life;)!!but now scentsy is taking alot of my space hahahahah...love my wax😊💜
I recently bought an otherland candle and had pretty good luck with it. Strong scent. Only problem was the price and burn time. Too expensive for the size.
I love Lower Lodge candles. They manufacture Jo Malone’s candles (the brand I’m so lucky to work for) and they’re amazing at what they do. The same glass as Jo Malone’s candles, the same quality but at a more affordable price! I mainly buy Jo Malone, Diptyque, and Cire Trudon.
Thanks Tyler! I'll have to check them out! I'm a Diptique & Jo Malone addict but now I have grandbabies to spend my 'fun money' on so I'd love to find a less expensive addiction! haha
Back in the day Yankee Candle used to be the bomb. A marble wax two wick tumbler couldn’t be out performed! I’ve got a Natures Paintbrush going now I’m going to miss tremendously...
I agree with you on the Capri blue HOWEVER, their fir and firewood candle is my favorite Christmas scent and it’s just amazing even tho they’re kinda terrible
You forgot to post the pics in with the video, which was kind of a bummer. I do agree with what you said about WoodWick though. Yankee did ruin them after the purchase.
Yankee has gone WAY downhill over the years. I used to love them back in the 90s and 2000s and would buy them constantly, but ever since the 2010s, something has changed. They have NO throw and they burn horribly now! I have no idea what they have changed in the past 6-7 years, but they are definitely not the same company that they once were. I've tried multiple scents and haven't been able to smell any of them. I contacted Yankee's customer service, who was totally useless and provided no answers whatsoever. They just send that same crap about "how to properly burn a candle." Now, I buy the Goose Creek brand. They smell AMAZING and their prices are very low, more than half as much as what Yankee charges!
Thanks for affirming that Yankee doesn't throw scent... I got a cheaper Chesapeake candle from target that fills my entire downstairs yet I can't smell a whiff of midsummer night in a tiny bathroom unless I hover above it. What a disappointment... At least it was 40% off on Amazon. BBW candles are amazingly strong but so expensive unless they're on sale and inconvenient to get if you don't have a store with pickup. But now I'd rather just get a candle I can actually smell. My absolute favorite is teakwood. Wish I could smell it all the time. Have a plugin for it too. Amazing scent. Now if only I could find a potent midsummer item. Only one I've had is the cardboard (paperboard, hanging) car freshener. The plastic jar one sucks and has barely any throw just like the candle. Unfortunate indeed.
I have been told that Yankee has the most amount of soot. Recently I read that they have changed hands although I am not sure if that is true. I know everyone has been complaining in most recent years that they are being stingy with the essential oils so many have very poor throws if any…blehhh
Totally agree with Capri blue and woodwick. Yankee has also gone way downhill. Will never purchase them again. Their loss as I buy about 700 candles a year. Thank god for Harry Slatkin!
I'm so glad I watched this because I fell in love with the pine woodwick candle in the store but they were way to pricey imo. Now i'm so glad I didn't buy it 😂
If you have left over wax melt the rest out with boiling water and make them into wax melts. That's what I do. I even mix scents. Such as sweet coconut and italian limon. Smells amazing in a melt. And I will never waste product again. You can even get good quality wicks in bulk, repour in your favourite old candle wax in old candle glasses and then have a whole new candle. No more waste.
i AGREE on the Woodwick. Gimmicky!!! I bought one they are beautiful-and like you said-they don't burn. I could NEVER get that silly wick to stay lit. Waste of money.
Ik this is old but WoodWick is easily one of the best candles out there imo. I started using them in 2016 (not sure when Yankee Candle bought them) but I still use them til this day and the wicks are great, never ever have gone out on me, I get an even melt throughout the surface of the candle (no tunneling) BUT yes the flame does get very small at times but the smell is still great and strong with every candle type. Not sure where your getting your WoodWick Candles from
I purchased the beautiful pink OTHERLAND Georgette Magnolia Amber Vegan Candle a few days ago and it smelled like nothing. No throw or scent at all. It smelled like hot wax! What a waste. 🙄😒 I'm sticking to Overose, at least I know the smell will pack a punch.
Okay Yesss wood wick used to be so amazing and their scents were so strong. I got the old wood wick from a homegoods and it was my favorite candle ever and it’s gone!! 😫😫😫
My capri blue candle lives in a tin foil sweater. It has to. Only way it will burn across. I haven't tried the others, and you've convinced me I shouldn't.
so funny because i bought the capri blue and thought i did something wrong because it has the worst tunneling. tried the foil and oven tricks and nothing worked lol so thank u
Well, I wish I would have seen your report months ago, but it completely explains why the last two ww candles I bought are trash. I LOVED ww. No more. They self-extinguish!! So so sad!!
nahhhhhhhh - I have had mostly good results with capris blue candles. You're right that the big ones sometimes tunnel irreparably, but more than half the time they work. The smaller tinned candles and the even smaller glass mini candles have always burned well IME (this is over 10+ years of burning them). Avoid the size you're holding (and larger, of course), all will be fine. Yankee candle is freaking nasty. They always seem to give me an itchy nose and possible headache. No thanks.
Have you bought one recently? Like in the past 3-4 months? The WoodWicks have definitely gone down hill, and the pillar style is on-exultant in terms of scent. I just bought one yesterday. It’s really disappointing. I loved WoodWick candles.
I could not agree with this more!! Woodwick candles used to be my FAVE!!!!!!! I have not truly smelled them in years….not because I have not purchased them, but because you can’t smell a single thing when burning them! They have no throw & the wicks are GARBAGE!!!! Absolute garbage! My last ellipse is completely full & the wick sunk to the very bottom. Literally a complete waste.
I couldn't agree more! I just got in my first order the other day and I've had to put one on a burner and babysit another because they don't burn evenly across. On top of that I can only smell them close up or if I leave the room and come back. It's a shame especially with how hyped they are and the amount of great reviews they have.
@@simply_kelly_74 Exactly! I was super excited to get them as an alternative to BBW since they offer more scents. I don't know why it's so difficult to make a decent candle especially when you're a bigger brand.
