Many of our viewers commented on our first worst cars in U.S. history and wanted us to add more to the list. You asked and we made it happen Today we take a look at the worst cars in U.S. history 2.0 edition. With so many cars that were duds, it was difficult to create the list of Top 10 worst cars in U.S. history 2.0 but we made it happen. This list won't satisfy others and may even frustrate a few. We want our viewers to comment what they feel should be the top 10 worst cars. Let us know how you feel!
At number 10 is the 1980 Chevrolet Citation. GM was supposed to usher in a new era, and they did...the era of Everything Is Really, Really Terrible.
Although Chrysler billed the Imperial as an "electronic marvel," the real wonder was that even a company in such dire straits as Chrysler could produce such a horrendous car.
DeLorean DMC-12s captured the imagination of car fans before Back to the Future revealed their immortal fame, but those few unfortunate enough to own one realized just how awful they were.
In 1982, Renault's partnership with American Motors Corporation left its corporate brain filled with delusions of adequacy, and it introduced the stylish Fuego (Spanish for "fire") to America as its resident sports car.
Remember the Chrysler Laser? Because the Rest of the World Sure Doesn't Although the Laser was virtually identical to the Dodge Daytona,
In the early 1990s, when the Hyundai Excel and Yugo GV started selling like crazy, Volkswagen must have had a nostalgia breakdown.Using its Brazilian product line, the company decided to rebadge the Gol, a car so cheap Volkswagen couldn't even give it an F.In a number of ways, the Fox resembled the original air-cooled Beetle, such as its noisy cabin, heavy non-assisted steering, and lack of a fifth gear for the manual transmission.
Thanks for watching!

One of the funniest shows ever, one of the most boring cars ever. You knew Cadillac had a lemon on its hands when they needed to resort to making the Allante a star on a hit tv show. And did they really think anyone would even notice their car when it was positioned next to Kelly in skimpy attire?

I worked at a rental car company in 75. We received over a 100 Gremlins, Pacers and Matadors. They were really poorly built and were really junk compared to the big 3 cars we had. Some of these cars came to us with ,5 miles on the odometer (lowest I have ever seen) and customers would asked “are they really new?”

In ‘88 I bought my first brand new car. An ‘88 VW Fox 4 door. The first time it ever saw a mechanic was when I hit 475,000 miles when it got the timing belt changed out. All I ever did was regular maintenance and oil changes and it rain flawlessly. Better shocks/struts helped the handling, which wasn’t even bad to begin with. That car now has over 1,000,000 miles on it on the original engine. Still runs good and looks good. One of my grandsons drives it every day.

On the DeLorean: “The V6 engine produced just 130hp, about 1/3 of the amount necessary to deliver any kind of performance that could be considered serious.” This statement is beyond inaccurate. The average sports car in 1981 had between 120-170hp, mostly due to emission regulations and fuel economy. Very few production cars in this era had 390hp as you claim is needed to be “considered serious”. 😂
@jesper1501

Also the non catalytic version actually had the intended 170 hp. Some car magazines actually tested this version in Nothern Ireland and was quite impressed, as it lived up to all it’s rivals performance wise.

Most of these videos when they claim that a car is “underpowered” is asinine to say the least, obviously they are not old enough to remember what most cars were like in the old days. I can remember V-8 cars that were only 145 hp, a lot of cars had 0-60 times in the 15-20 second range. People were buying cars because of MPG back in the 1970s during the energy crisis out of necessity and besides that the speed limit was only 55 MPH anyway.

Not sure about 1970, but my Mom had a '74 Gremlin she drove to hell and back. Only options were an Auto transmission and Levi interior. Had the base 232 6. Car had 135K on it in 1982 when she and my dad were in a head on with a '77 Olds 88... They were hurt, but got out of the car and waited for EMS... the girl (drunk) who was driving the Olds had to be cut out of her car. As for the worst car I've ever owned? You didn't really say why the Gremlin was bad. Had a base 232 i6 then a 258 i6 which is also used in Jeep products from Amc . They were durable engines then the 5.0 304 V8 optional in a Gremlin X was not only fast but the X version looked great too. Top of the heap 401 V8 Randle Gremlin X would destroy most modern day cars easily. So not sure what makes it bad.

I absolutely loved my Gremlin. If I had to fault something it would be inadequate front suspension, it would bottom out pretty easily. The best thing I accidently discovered about the car was it's acoustics. With speakers mounted in the metal boxes in the rear floor on either side of the spare tire hatch, the acoustics were absolutely perfect. No car I have owned since has come close to equaling it.

I don't understand why the Lazier is on this list. It looked nice and had good features and you only spoke good about it. So why is it on the list?? Please let me know. Thank you.

How about a video now covering the *best-built* /top-quality/most reliable vehicles available in the U.S. from roughly 1980 thru 2020 or thereabouts? Or would selecting the vehicles be too subjective, i.e. more a matter of opinion? (Although I imagine vehicles like the Toyota Camry & Corolla and Honda Accord & Civic would certainly be among the first included. Can't really say off the top of my head which U.S. manufacturers' models would be.)

Compared to the going up in flames Vega(later Pontiac Astra) and the Gas tank exploding rolling buzz bomb the infamous Pinto ( And twin stablemate the Mercury bobcat) Poor little AMC with it's Gremlin was actually a"Good" little car despite it's dated parts and other failings it was a better car than either one of its big deep pocket rivals. At least the gremlin didn't blow up in a ball of fire. 😜😜😋😋

I would substitute the Chevy Vega for the AMC Gremlin. The Gremlin styling was quirky , but the cars sold well and did what they were supposed to do rather well. Gremlin does not belong on this list at all. On the other hand the Vega looked and drove sporty, , but it was at best a half baked cake. If you bought one, you signed up for a race between severe body rust out and early engine failure.

I think you mean that there were no V6 engines at that time from Chrysler Corporation. GMC offered a V6 engine in the early 60's; Buick offered a V6 in the mid-60's on their Special & Skylark; then Buick resurrected their V6 in the mid-70's on the Regal & Century.@@woxyroxme

I owned a 1982 Citation X-11. I even had it modified by an ex-GM engineer and tuner. It had the potential of being a great car for it's time. Unfortunately, it was extremely poorly made (the starter power harness was routed under the oil pan and it's insulation melted away), the engine had to be rebuilt as well as the manual trans-axle before it hit 60Kmiles. I got rid of it in 1987 at 60Kmiles. In 1992, I got a Sentra SE-R and never looked back. At least I got to 115K miles almost problem free until the rocker panels and a suspension perch rotted out.

Want to lose 6k in 30 days..here's how: I bought a brand new 86 Chrysler laser for 12k cash. It was a 5 speed ,black on black. Unfortunately it constantly made front end noise everytime I stopped. It sounded like an Owl in heat.." Whoot". I brought it back over and over again to the dealer and was finally told " its the front end and the parts and labor are not covered under the warranty". I sold it back to them for 6k. Yeah I took a beating and never bought a Chrysler product again!

@kentkrueger6035
@kentkrueger6035 Год назад
Yes, it was based on the Dodge Mirada and Chrysler Cordova platform. I'm going to step on your parade though, the M-body Diplomat, Grand Fury, 5th Ave, LeBaron and J-body Mirada, Cordova and Imperial were all nothing more than gussied up F-bodies or Aspen and Volare's. The problem with the Aspen, Volare was they were rushed into production by Lee Iococca before they were ready. First couple of years were junk. By 1978 they were decent cars for the Era but the damage was done. The M and J body cars were better, except for the poorly executed and overpriced Imperial. But, they tried, I'll give them credit for that. Oh, and Plymouth Gold Dusters didn't have a V6. A slant 6, yes and a couple of different V8 engines. The slant 6 was ruined by the attempt to clean up emissions. Too many add on devices, Carburetors leaned out too fat and compression rates lowered too far. Another victim of the times and Chryslers poor financial situation. It took the much maligned K-Car to reverse Chrysler's misfortunes. Another platform that spawned a whole plethora of different vehicles.

I'm partial to the Gremlin because I had a 71, mine had different colored doors and the wipers never worked properly but it was very dependable in the Michigan cold winters IF I let it warm up for 15 mins, not 13 or 14 but 15 and it would not cut off after that. My brother had a Volvo that wouldn't start so I took my little Gremlin over there to jump him after warming up for 15 minutes. Believe it or not, I missed that ugly thing.
