My wife turned down a nursing position job at the VA because of work/life balance. Most nurses work six 12 hour shifts a week. The VA wanted her to work an additional 8 hour shift a pay to bring her up to 80 hours worked. Yes she would have been paid for the time, but she decided she would rather have the 26 extra days off a year. Edit, nurses work six 12 hour shifts a pay (72 hours), not 6 shifts a week.

Really enjoying your content. I am a schedule a applicant just applied for NASA, but wasn’t sure which locations are best for schedule A to thrive in. Worked years ago for SSA it was the worst experience of my life. Was scrutinized and announced to coworkers that out of the three new hires I was the schedule a. I was micromanagement and harassment to a level that was traumatizing. Don’t want that experience again. Any suggestions?

An option for you would be the U.S. Army Audit Agency. It is not a great place in my opinion but it might be an improvement for you. You have to be near one of our field offices and I imagine you would already meet the educational requirements. Coming from the IRS, I would suggest asking for the Financial Audits team. Some teams should be avoided at all costs. Near out and ask if you want. The agency starts you at GS-7 for 1 year, then you get auto promoted to GS-9 for 1 year, then you get auto promoted to GS-11 for 1 year, then you get auto promoted to GS-12 where you stay. GS-13 positions are competitive but you don't want it anyway. It is the worst role in the agency. Financially, it is a huge step up for you. Check it out. I am looking at audit positions with the VA because I want off my team and my team is a "black hole" so they wont move anyone. But that is not every team.

Is your perspective only from a GS-12 and up? That is not a complete assessment. I work for the VA in Puerto Rico. I am Medical Support Assistant and the work balance is not that great. With an Masters degree they gave me a GS-3 as a starting point, when all you need is a high school degree. It seems that education is not even taken into consideration when hiring in this agency. Also, for me life and work balance includes vacation. How is it balanced when you work 355 days of the year and only have 10 days off? Pay raise is important but in these times so is mental health, Why don't we have more vacation days?

Hi Armand. I love your videos and I've watch most of them ever since i found your channel. I have a non-related question please. So I got on the spot offer for a VSR position with VBA back in feb.. with my experience and graudate education, i was qualified for G-S 9. But, 3 weeks ago they finally sent out the tentative offer, but it was for a GS-7. I was at a lost to say the least. I reached out to the POC listed on the T-offer letter. She said, "That there was a last min change to the hiring process, that everyone coming as VSR will start at the lowest grade offered regardless of Qualification. Well..i wactched your video on steps negotiation, so i accepted the offer and sent a negotiation later for GS-7, 10.., my email was completely ignored and i didn't get no acknowledgement or whatsoever. I received the final offer yesterday and nothing changed. They whole things just weaken my spirit completely, i have till 15th to accept the official offer and I dont know what to do. I just got out the Army this past Dec, and i just dont want to take a job just to take a job..i dont know if i should just keep applying or just accept the offer that already made me so sad. My question is, if i get a better job offer within the federal government can i leave at anytime? How does that work in a federal job settings..please advise. I'd appreciate any input. Thank you for reading
@armandcuret1
@armandcuret1 Год назад
You can leave the government or accept a better job offer at anytime. If you accept this GS-7 job offer through the "recent student" pathway, you can still apply for higher GS grade positions using your veteran preference or to "open to the public" job announcements without worrying about time in grade rules. Thanks for watching.
@TAlkbyTAlk
@TAlkbyTAlk Год назад
@@armandcuret1 Thank you somuch for the prompt response. The Offer is not through the " recent graduate pathway". It's direct hire authority. I'm not sure they used the Veterans preference either.. Thank you somuch.

@@armandcuret1 Does being in the Excepted service really matter that much though? I am eligible under the VEOA hiring path, so I feel like that would offset any disadvantages most applicants would have of being in the Excepted service.
@armandcuret1
@armandcuret1 Год назад
@@chrisdeming9287 That is true, it wouldn't matter too much in your situation because you have VEOA. But, there are some job announcements which are written in a way that you have to 12 months experience in the previous GS grade in the competitive service to be eligible. I do not think all HR Specialist understand that eligible veterans can be considered for all competitive service positions. If there is a good job opportunity in the excepted service, I would take it.
