I am completely amazed at how well this horse is standing for the treatment. Moved around a little bit, but otherwise pretty still. Maybe he knows he's being helped? I hope the hoof grows out right and the infection clears up. Great to see a horseshoeing school with such talented people who know how and care to help.
@@rebeccasha5642 the hoof is made of the same stuff our nails and hair are made of. If there's enough hoof material they shouldn't feel anything. Like how women can use hair straighteners or curlers that use high heat and don't feel it but def notice if the tool gets too close to the scalp.
I agree that it seems like he is standing pretty darn still! What an amazing animal- to remain so docile& trusting after enduring such prolonged pain. That hoof must have been incredibly painful a long time! This vid was apparently a real nail biter for a lot of us! I'm grateful you could do so much for him! Thank you
Reminded me of the Hoof GP, and was waiting for you to glue a block onto the medial claw! But since it’s not cattle, was puzzling to me how you’d get the weight off . Fascinating. Hoof cracks are terrible. Thanks for sharing.
The owner actually commented explaining their situation at the top of the comments. They were repeatedly told a shoe would fix the issue. The infection was actually a surprise. But the horse bounced from vet to vet and farrier to farrier and everyone constantly said the same thing, shoeing will fix it
Wow, I swear you can see the coronet band already levelling out a little by the end of the trim, with the upwards pressure off that section. Fascinating.
There are no words that can articulate your knowledge, work and honest to goodness care. This horse will feel a lot better hopefully soon. This was an especially beautiful freckled horse and I love freckled horses..thank you.
You, Sir, are an artistic genius. All the hard work you must do to get this good. Thank you. It's very encouraging not just for horses but for humans as well.
Impressive work.👍 I was very curious how you could help this hoof. Thank you for sharing! I learned more about hoof tragedies & how they could be fixed. Looking forward to how the healing goes. 😊👍
The owner is the top comment, apparently they’ve been to many farriers and vets who all told them he needs a shoe, and said nothing about an infection. The other hooves lol to be in good condition
I appreciate your explanations as you went..that was one horrible crack ..never saw anything near that bad..I hope that little horse was able to recover
When you were using the Dremel I felt the same tension in my hands that I feel when I’m at the dentist 🤠 Great work. Would love to see updates on this horse and hope I never have to deal with it on my horses. Thanks for sharing
@@Nobody277 Don’t forget the horse has no feeling in this part of their hoof. Farriers are good at not digging in too deep. The sound does get us humans though. 🤠
Amazing video, watching you dremel the crack down was fascinating, when you put the antibacterial liquid in you could really see just how incredibly deep this crack was. What a lovely, genuine pony, I’ve just read the post by his owner and so pleased Huckleberry is loved and he’s been brought to you to fix. I couldn’t believe the instability in the hoof when you started to tighten the metal up, poor pony. I would really love to see more videos, as this pony’s hoof progresses in your care. 👍
I would like to see this hoof today (August, 2023) to see if it’s healed well. This is wonderful what was done for this poor horse. Thanks for sharing this.
I am sure you have seen a worse crack, but I have not. This one breaks my heart.... watching it was difficult as I felt every clip and file. I join my thanks with Huckleberry's owner to the good people at the Idaho Horseshoeing School for what they did here and in many other videos they have put out.
My Dad was a farrier for 55 years under a horse. He has seen this. I remember mom got a horse out of an auction with the same issue. My dad used one of the aluminum bands that they used to secure hoses to an engine to give the hoof support. Cut out that he needed to and rebuilt the hoof with fiberglass. It took a year to grow out.
What an amazing job!!! Super creative using the hose clamp!!! You guys are incredibly good!!!! I have no doubt, that in your care, this horse will make a full recovery!!! Again, what an amazing job!!!!
I've seen these injuries at the horse sale often. I've always wondered if anything could be done to restore a hoof to normalcy. Thanks for posting. Definitely going to share.
Thank you for training people to take care of these horse's needs properly. It was really interesting watching you fix and medically treat it's hoof. Why though do owners let their animals foot problems get so bad before seeking a professional's help??
Wow.. what you did was a sergons wrk with pins. I was so completely impressed. To bad you weren't a specialist. You helped this animal emensly from it's suffering. He is blessed to have your hands and experience. Keep up the amazing work....
Wow!!!! It’s amazing how good that hoof looks after just one session with you. When I first saw the condition that hoof was in I scraped my jaw off the floor.
Having watched a good number of cow and horse hoof trimming videos, I gotta say that ungulates are INCREDIBLY patient animals. I rarely see a video where a horse or pony puts its hoof down repeatedly as often as this, but this looks SO painful! Granted, I'm not a farrier... but I am a cat owner. And cats' patience levels are already in the negatives when it comes to claw trimming. 😂
I love your videos. I have a hard time imagining how that poor boy walked at all before your work! As others stated would love to see an update on how he's doing.
This is fascinating. I have had a split on my big toenail since a boating accident in 1988. I have to keep it trimmed and filed so it doesn't snag on my sock. I sort of know what this horse is dealing with. My nail will never grow back in one piece but I hope this horse's hoof does. Cool video.
This appy seems to have pretty good feet considering. Nice frog that didn't look thrushy. Did a great job and if you get rid of the infection I think everything will heal up with a regular schedule with you guys!
The owner has been making sure the horse has regular vet and farrier care. I have no idea what happened to the hoof but it sounds like it wasn’t neglect.
Thank you for the kind and innovative treatment for that very spotty horse. I think about the pain that horse has been living with and I want to cry. As a kid my parents bought a brood mare who had a split up to and into the coronary band and we could never get a farrier to do anything but trim. Very sad we were in Michigan and couldn't trailer her to your school. It would have improved the mares life a lot.
I had an Appaloosa who split a rear hoof, it was fascinating to watch the Farrier and Vet work together, it took about 18 mo’s for the hoof to grow completely out, but the care the Farrier took with the special shoes was amazing!
You guys do amazing work. I took one of my young horses that I sold to you. It was her 1st shoeing. It will be interesting to see how this horse progresses. I am encouraging my son to go to school there.
I had horses when I was young,so I love to watch this. Brings back good memories. I was wondering if farriers have to take veterinary courses as well.😊
Fascinating to watch, what a great job you have done. I look forward to following progress and hope for healing and recovery. I stubbed my big toe in May last year, the nailbed went black, it took a full six months to grow out so I'm guessing it will take many months for this hoof to grow.
This man is an amazing farrier and that horse is lucky to have him. Sad that someone let this condition get this bad. Hope for a future follow up video.
What a sweet baby ! He was so good about touching his broken hoof. Very interested in follow up on healing. So happy you're such a good mom to try so much to make sure he was healthy. Vets are alot like "human" Dr's. Sometimes you just have to find the right one. Hope he's feeling better in no time! Good luck.
I don’t have a horse but I learn so much about how farriers help horses to stay on their feet. Those horses ate so much happier when they leave than before they came. ❤
What a fantastic job you performed to help that nice horse. Love watching your video with excellent explanations. Watching from Copenhagen, Denmark, Scandinavia. 🐴🐎
My horse just got her first hoof trim since she cracked/broke her hoof. Mind you she’s a 15.2 h paint that was 4 1/2 months pregnant when injury happened and we felt so bad with how bad her feet got, we have our horse in a month farrier schedule with daily cleaning and her feet got so bad she due early March and we haven’t been able to trim her feet since it happened. It was so deep/bad she refused to put pressure on it ripped off basically half of her hoof and cracked up the remaining pretty bad we tried but she refused to lift it or bare weight on it to get the others trimmed and we didn’t want to stress her out or chance her falling too hard and losing the baby. Her hood is about 85% healed and she has a special shoe/cast on her hoof now and she’s completely trimmed up and back on the schedule but the vet wanted to put her down how bad it was, it just shows how resilient horses can be with just some tlc and stable small pasture rest
My father-in-law (now 93 "fesh" years old!) was while his live a blacksmith in a monastery south of Munich. When he saw this video he was very much pleased to know how the man there is going to give help to that animal! Congrats!
