Don't get your hopes up, this game isn't actually about toast. ##### Patreon: / joshstrifehayes Twitch: / joshstrifehayes Discord: / discord Twitter: / joshstrifehayes
Right? Like, urgh. Scummy and exploitative. It had so much potential too, I really liked the aesthetic and the custom-recorded cute sound effects. Sad to see cryptobros ruining things again It's been 3 years now, I'm curious if that's still a "feature"
yeah this is WILD. It is a fake game , created to purposefully keep you playing , so the dev can use your PC as a zombie mining rig. How is that even legal?
your correct i was an old player and the only one with a 1080 this game had my shit runing so hot. i called the creator out on this and in return he added the hpb to the game. basicly he confirmed my suspicion.
@@lofigaming1092 My question is this... Josh said he got 0.01. So, he actually earned a tiny fraction of a Crypto? How? The Developer is using all the PCs to mine, and then gives you a cut? I'm very confused on the process. What Crypto are they mining? All of them, or exclusively going after one?
@@darkgn0ll587would that be the worst thing ever if they were open about it and that was what was being used to fund the game development? That actually seems like a viable way to crowdfund once you get to a certain place in development... am i being naive in thinking that if it was done in a more honest way it wouldn’t be a terrible model, provided they aren’t using your hardware to mine at all times?
@@cannedsquasher5923 apparently the game has been out for a few years and used to have a small dedicated community. If that's the case it's entirely possible questing or mob-grinding in groups may be significantly more efficient exp wise. Either that or you reach a gear point where your secondary stats become inflated enough to trivialize combat.
@dakotarossman5873 the developer doesn't need to see your wallet. They dont care what you have made because I guarantee they siphon coins like a tax on each player. so they make cash flow off each player's system running their garbage game.
If “Enslaved lich queen” was not to your taste, maybe you will find some of these other pets cute, cuddly, and adorable: “Molten magma demon of rage” “Hateful slave reaver” “Guy with gigantic bloody butcher knife” Or... “Two headed wolf marauder of terror”
I am actually devastated by the fact that this is not an MMO in which you control a sentient piece of toast in an "I AM BREAD" style physics combat and parkour system set in a ridiculous food fantasy setting.
There's nothing really wrong with that, as long as the players actually get their %. You're already using the processing power to play the game anyway, so if its a game you enjoyed, and you're playing it a lot, why not put that processing power towards mining? Especially if you, the player, can make a small % of money just for playing the game? Honestly it would be great if more games let you earn money while playing and WITHOUT ruining the in-game economy through RMT.
Imaging having a cute concept, a core strong idea and variety and if you made it very minimally monetized with cosmetics only you'd legitimately make gangbusters cash and you go "You know what this needs? Oppressive crypto malware."
im one of those people who made it to level 60 and i can explain the hpb or why i think its there, now alot of players didnt have good gpu like i did (Infact most of them played on crappy laptops) so they didnt notice but this game made my gpu run like crazy and this was during the time games were getting in trouble for using players gpu to mine crypto, i called out the owner on this issue next thing you know hpb was added... additionally this game was cute but was actually ruthless in that anyone could pk anywhere but inside a town this was changed. and that is when player base declined.
Please review "Age of Wushu", it has the terrible situation of that you need food or starve, but the word "Food" does not exist in the manual (it did not when I tried the game three years ago).
to be fair i dont remember needing food to like, complete quests or anything. the starvation was just a debuff, wasn't it? i really liked the game until the horrible customer service and botting and lack of... improvement in the translation made me leave. the mechanics were too complicated to understand without a decent translation and it was just horrible. but the graphics were so good, and the fighting was fun, and the life skills mini games weren't too bad
33:06 The strafing is correct isn't it? That's how strafing in every game I play works. Your character looks inward while strafing outward. It works like that in FFXIV and GW2.
Right? To me it looks like the character is looking over his shoulder, while being chased. Just because this happens in other games that doesn't mean anything. There are games that do the opposite. But, in THIS game, he looks like he's looking over his shoulder at the people behind him.
Whe I saw “Tale of bread” I instantly was like “why has someone made a mmo where u are a piece of bread” then I was thinking of the game “I am bread” but all mmo like. Now I’m thoroughly disappointed about hearing this game isn’t about being a piece of toast in a mmo setting
actually, the looking in the opposite direction while strafing makes sense. after all, if you were strafing sideways, the thing you're strafing around would likely be in the opposite direction. But what I do want to ask nobody in particular is if this is one of those games made of bought assets/engines?
33:15 to be entirely fair, when I think of strafing, I think largely of two situations: Either moving directly left and right for situations in which you're shooting at an enemy; moving from cover to cover or dodging fire, and circling around an enemy. In both situations, you'd be in combat. Obviously knowing where you're going is good, but it's also a bad idea to take your eyes off the enemy. In both cases, looking the opposite direction that you're moving while strafing would have you 'looking' at the enemy.
For how 'buttered' up the game's art style is it still left Josh 'burnt'. So many incomplete systems like 'crumbs' in it's coding and with no music to 'jam' out to leaves this piece of toast stale. No I don't regret those bad puns~ (P.S. Not sure if your up for it but I think it'd be fun to watch you and your patrons play some of these bad games together on stream or something...but then again given the incredibly low player count of some of these games you'd probably crash the servers. :P)
Crafting in wow has the same issue. It's basically a waste of time or materials except in niche cases. If I wanted to get heavily into it and play a bit more of an RP style where I gather an make my own gear, the gear is all just junk. Unless it's extremely high level non weapon and non armor items or utility items, it's just useless. The new xpack has fixed this to an extent with crafted armor, but you can only equip one useful crafted item at a time and the grind to craft a better version is huge and expensive... Time better spent grinding gold and just buying the items off the auction house.
Crafting in WoW used to be so much more important than its become. The professions in that game have become so neutered that they are mostly pointless. Vanilla to Lich King was when they were so good. Once Pandaria came about they were dead.
Can I just say: Your final adventure is how any journey in Everquest 1 was, even just going to a dungeon for your level, especially when it was on another continent. The thrill of traversing creepy areas with monsters that could 1shot you, causing you to lose exp worth hours or days of grind and even all your possessions if you don't manage to get back your corpse while completely naked. I miss those times. Nowadays it's all just "meh I died, no problem", "meh it's on the other side of the globe, I just click this teleporter"...............
35:11 MAN I CANNOT STAND games that take away xp youve earned, makes you scared to do anything risky AT ALL, same for having some super move that takes forever to recharge where you never end up using it because you're too worried to waste it
37:11 Ha I live near Seven Oaks, it’s a town in the south east of England - just over the border from Surrey in Kent. Maybe I’ll nip round there for Patch’s key sometime
I played this despite your warning. I made my son play it, too. It was kind of fun... at first. We even did that first instance, up to the final boss. (they seem to expect maybe 6 players - ha!) My son abandoned me soon after, having come to the same conclusions you did. I soldiered on. Why? I'd been trying to finish my very last quest in FFXIV (I had done every-single-one, through Shadowbringers.) My very last quest was Feast of Famine, and when I realized the weather I had to track to catch a stupid fish, I decided I needed a break. So I checked the weather, found no thunder in the South Shroud, & went as far as I could go in Tale of Toast. There was another player on (!!!) He seemed shocked anyone else was playing. Once you get the next level of crafting, and do the one or two remaining quests, you learn there's nothing else. Every town is the same. I killed some fairies, basically out of spite, and realized it's stunningly empty past the first cute bit. I told my son 'I'M FINE, IT'S FINE, I hate fish,' and went on a bit more. I made some gear - it was way lower than my current level, which was 16 or something, I don't remember. I was a mage - I found stuff like the bandits really easy as a mage, incidentally. Archer & melee were awful. That's my only advice. It's a little sad though - I can imagine this is a kind of pleasant time waster if there was *anything there at all.* However, I want back to FFXIV's last quest refreshed, caught every rare fish, and so it did, in fact, serve its purpose.
the kill, rest, opps respawn loop with lower enemies not giving XP but higher enemies kick your butt sounds so much like Everquest, especially the early days
This video, this game, has given me ideas about an MMO without grinding, without even *levels* . Just Warframe style fights where you doge and attack and use pure skill to take out the enemies...your gear gets stronger as you work your way up through tougher mobs, but technically, if you're *good* enough, you can take on the final boss with no weapons or armor and *win* .
@Beaverish Buck Teeth It is if it's massively multiplayer and also online. Unless you mean Warframe specifically, in which case I was just using that as an example of the play style. I feel like there would be an audience for a purely skill based MMO. There's plenty of people who enjoy the 'get good enough to kill the boss in your underwear ' style of gaming in single player, adding PVP and cooperative takedowns to the mix would probably catch that audience.
Worst? Seems to me like this game has a lot of charm. Some technical problems maybe, but it's cute and earnest and I want to give it a hug. ... okay, I spoke too stone, the block chain thing is a bit disgusting, and undermines the earnestness thing.
Man... your worst MMO ever videos are so good... I binged them all day. Please consider doing Kal Online or Silkroadonline. In retrospect i think they would do very well in this list and I am quite embarrassed that i played especially the first mentioned for maybe 2 years >_
in defense of the strafing thing, if you're running away from something you're likely to start wavering in the opposite direction of the shoulder you look over.
IF you're looking over your shoulder. Which, the character does look like he's doing. But, there's no way to determine his motivation to strafe. But, people never strafe in real life, so...just weird to include anything like that.
I can think of two reasons why the music stops. Either the dev didn't expect anyone to play longer than the length of the music track, or no one noticed the bug including the dev because no one played it that long.
Jekkely is a pun name. I think it should be a reference to jekyll and hyde. The jekyll part wants you to kill the animal and the hide part wants you to get the hide from the killed enemy
Anybody else noticed that the wisp in the player creation screen has the shadow of a bat? It's probably a modified bat asset from elsewhere in the game with the model replaced with a light source and new animation but they forgot to replace the shadow model Edit: it also seems to be generating a shadow from it's own light source 😂
I was listening to the video while working and after a while, I realized you make really lenghty AND entertaining videos. Really appreciate your videos :)
You know this could be a really good game! Cutesy take on MMOs with more personality than other small games out there! But the small problems combined with the awful in game currency and constant grinding just ruins it. I hope the devs watch this and actually take the advice and work to improve their game. Its not a lost cause, and I really want this to be a good game honestly.
Legends of Equestria has a somewhat similar art style, but does not fall for these mistakes. It has a few problems itself (servers restart every three hours, occasionally the dispatcher will be restarted which has no warning), but is still better in every way. Still, this game should be good. Until then, its lost potential.
Hmm that game definitelly needs some ambiance sounds, for each type of outside area and each type of interior, and maybe different footstep sounds for each. Also, this game gives me a lot of "Hordes" vibe. heh.
I agree, this type of game is like eating pure caramel. The caramel is given to you by your aunt who is also a doctor. She secretly finds you really annoying and gives you caramel to get you diabetes so you have to buy insulin from her.
Honestly this game sounds like it could be good, especially with some more love from the developers. As somebody who has played a lot of very bad MMOs over the years, and also dealt with a lot of terrible systems in them, I would love to give this a try. However, I do not want a game that's giving me some form of crypto because it's something I don't feel needs to be connected to video games. If there ever was an update that removed that, I'd gladly give this a try.
One way a developer can make crafting matter while still making loot drops relevant is to make it so that getting said loot drops improves what your character can craft. People can learn by imitating and building on the things around them. Making so that loot drops improves the gear you can make still gives you a reason to get them, while giving you a goal after you have them. Edit: That won't fix the grind fest that is this game, but this idea might help other game devs.
actually if you wanna be actually strong for your level and able to fight mobs higher level, you have no choice but to unlock the better item recipes and always make sure your wearing a full set of crafted gear of the same level as your character, which is surprisingly easy once you get through an initial grind of about 6-8 hours, i advise you loot literally everything and sell it all. also you can just buy most of the crafting materials from shops. so if your constantly filling your bag with stuff and dropping all the stuff your not gonna sell besides tools off at your stash then you'll quickly make alot of money. i ended up with like 100 gold by the time i got to the second city, so i bought all the new recipes and straight away i crafted next tier of gear. also when you craft sets of gear through the crafting, they get random attributes, so you can craft multiple of a gear piece to find the one with the highest wisdom. i went full single target dps mage, and i gotta say, its op as heck, you can fight mobs from pretty far away, and if you sink all your points into wisdom and all your skill points into just frostbolt or w/e it is, even mobs 1-2 levels above you usually die before they can reach you. also there are set bonuses to crafted items.... crafting is the only way to reliably gear yourself enough to solo this game as some quests and stuff are undeniably designed for groups. but sometimes in order to have enough dps to be a strong solo dpser you need to craft and recraft a bunch of your gear so you get the most out of the stat your focusing. also it appears besides shield warrior, literally every class needs to be pure builds to do good dps.
also despite what you said in the video, after putting over 20 hours into this i can say without doubt that this game isn't as grindy as some other asian mmos. but this would be considered average or slightly above average in terms of grindyness for the asians and islanders. i've seen those guys brag about grinding for thousands of hours on some games. they wouldn't even consider this grindy.
No music in the areas, just ambience? Quests giving you pathetic amounts of exp, thus requiring grinding to level up? Exp loss on death? No clear quest directions? Having to walk for a crazy amount of time to get anywhere? Having to rest after every fight? Just like Final Fantasy 11 then. Well, maybe not the last bit, unless perhaps if you're a mage and have MP to restore, because since end of 2013 you can summon a healer NPC . And if you dismiss then resummon those, they come back with full mana.
Hrm, looking at the gameplay, the slow paste fights, it may seem to force party play. Which is something I would love. I kind of wonder if many tried to solo it in the beginning, which I'm kind of assuming since most MMO's are like that. Also basing it on the achievements lol.
he sad part is that if Tale of Toast actually had no microtransactions, then its disclaimer about being an alpha build would've been something to actually take seriously and so much less hostility could've existed. I've played terrible alpha builds, but I'm willing to be patient with devs and leave reviews about what I thought was good and bad if they aren't trying to weasel extra money out of me.
Damn, Runescape mechanics blended with WoW Classic... This game is a dream come true in a game that kills you with cuteness- and oh yeah it's poorly made in this early access
The Lich Queen pet has nice spectral boobs 10/10, would embrace eternal undeath again. On the other hand back in the day we did a lot of this type of exploration like on the end of the video. World of WarCraft was full with stuff like this. Absolutely completely pointless, yet somehow amazing to do.
During the WoW Open Beta, back in 2004, there was a few hours where all mobs and NPCs despawned. So I swam around the entire Eastern Kingdoms continent.
Do NOT add a delay to your inventory tooltips. You'll probably be comparing items a lot and having to wait for 0.5 seconds every single time gets annoying really fast.
Matt Pat would like a word... xD I love your reviews. Solid and honest without overly bashing/disrespecting the devs (even if they deserve it sometimes). Great work!
the noises and cutesy stuff makes me feel like they truly wanted to make something simple yet enjoyable, a little bite sized mmo. but they the either got tired of it, got lazy, or got bought out and it was just turned into a poor excuse for a crypto miner. Truly a shame.
9 months too late, but I think the character looking in the opposite direction when strafing makes sense if you are strafing around an enemy. May be that was the logic behind the animation.
I played this in April of 2019 before the crypto was added in, and I had to reinstall to see what level my character was - Level 27. It was pretty much dead even then though. I made one friend and we just kind pushed each other to play for a while. Patch's house is indeed a dungeon, you get shrunken down inside I think and have to fight all spiders and bugs. There are mounts, I think you can buy wolves in Wyntervale, and you aren't the first person in Albahr. Also there is a big section on the north west, "No Man's Land" which is pretty much the wilderness in Runescape, but a lot of resources spawn up there, and since no one was ever playing my friend and I did a lot of grinding up there. There was also a mechanic you didn't mention in which you could PvP anywhere, by turning it on it offered you like 50% more experience for everything, but you could be killed anywhere by someone else who also had it on, again no one played so there was no point in not having it on.
the game was made, but it was simply never balanced before it was given up on. This would be a sweet game for someone to finish up. I could see this being a wow for kids, especially if they made a mobile version.
