@@adamlorenz4748hey come on man, it's all good. They all laughed and had a good time, I think it's okay to have that in bowling sometimes. Now let's just say Randy was lucky that it wasn't Pete, he would have had the Webersaurus Rex biting his head right off
Here's my take: Seventeen of the worlds best pro bowlers... MISSING THE HEADPIN SO MANY TIMES! Unreal! And also... JASON. BELMONTE. This man was in 58th place after the first round of qualifying and somehow ended up winning the whole dang tournament. INSANE. Keep in mind that EJ Tackett was undefeated heading into this tournament. Belmo just handed him his first loss of the season, and the GOAT is on his own undefeated streak as he starts his season 6-0. Side note: Anyone else miss Chris Via's 1-2-3-4-5-7-8-10 washout at 5:23? 😂
I remember as a child watching the '94 TOC on tv, from this same Riviera Lanes, and witnessing how many bowlers could not string strikes together. I don't know whether it's the lanes themselves, or the oil pattern that they put down for the TOC, but it goes to prove how difficult this tournament is to win.
I've been bowling for over thirty years and I have never seen a 2 count like that. Also, Andrew owes a lot of beers for that one - and I saw Lavoie trying to cash in.
Some of the breaks were the most surprising I've ever seen, if it wasn't an 8 pin, it was a 9 pin, then a solid 7, madness. I've hit my slump so seeing these guys struggle so much makes me realise that everyone has their off days
The condition must have been really hard! Nothing Worse than when 1 inch left or right is all it takes to go nose or light.. good bowling overall. These guys are the best of the best and still couldn’t throw quality on every shot. God speed folks ❤️
Marshall was the only one playing in the gradient of the pattern, the rest were deeper in the flat stuff. Simo was in a pretty good spot, just had that one bad tug for a split. Marshall is pretty up the back with his hand, so it didn't read the gradient much.
That dont explain all the missed single pins tho.. Pro's were just off this week bad. And the spares are straight shot spares that have nothing to do with an oil pattern. They just missed and were terrible shots.
After the spare fiasco I just witnessed at the TOC, I'll go back to watching Top Star Bowling, Championship Bowling, and ABC reruns. At least the bowlers on those shows knew how to bowl. Especially when it comes to picking up spares. By far the worst I have ever seen. I don't care if the shot was named after the legendary Don Johnson.
I began bowling in the late 1970s. The first rule taught was to make the ball release SILENT; making that point almost always the same point. The moment you have a blob on the lane throwing and dropping the ball, you might as well play horseshoes with the pins at the end. Bowling and billiards are games of finesse.
Some serious, serious reverse block going on... But these are professionals and it makes for the very best moving on. And at 5:25 the very rare 2 count on the first ball.
I legit remember feeling nothing watching the third ladder. We had tickets for the Finals and Belmo being my favorite I obviously wanted to meet him. Thank god for the 10 pin 😂
not an easy Don Johnson Pattern for me i would average 180 to 190 on it my very favorite pattern is Viper average 220 on that one I'm bored of house shots unless you're in leagues
Randy Pedersen’s whole personality is that 8 pin. It’s kinda annoying to see an 8 pin leave because he always feels the need to mentioned his bad tournament and it gets old hearing the same joke every time
The thumbnail reminds me of when we had to pick cards for the "big jackpot" at moonlight bowling. I picked. I picked a 2 and a 1. Tried to chip out the ol' 6-9. Didn't happen.
You would think a simple light hook from the right side (like a right handed Earl Anthony) would be better for an oil pattern that makes the big hook so erratic.
TOC was just straight up ugly for spare shooting. Unacceptable for pro's to mess so many straight single pins and buckets. I dont care about missing on the strikes shots on a hard pattern, as that is normal, but missing so many single pins, and AA almost missed a 5 pin like what... You rarely ever saw spare shooting this bad back in the day. EJ missing TWO 3-6-10's in a championship match. Its crazy.
ngl thats really part of the game today, the players focus so much on power that they have trouble dialing it back to hit spares, vs back in the day when the game was all about accuracy
@@randomhuman2116 good point, also, it was harder to strike back then, so spare game was all the more crucial. Regardless, its still unacceptable. I can assure you, I am a better spare shooter than a lot of these guys. I am no where near their level of bowlers, but my spare game is rock solid. I average 226 in league, and last year I missed 1 10 pin in 96 games, and only 2 single pin spares. I am a super accurate spare shooter, as I was taught from a young age that making 10 pins and spares are the most important aspect of bowling. So my dad would coach me every week and we only focused on spare conversation and spare tactics for each spare. Greatest lessons I have ever learned. I am sure someone will bring up being on TV or on the big stage, but these guys missing spares are the best in the world and have tons of experience in these situations. Its so sad to see a title game destroyed over simple spare shots.
@Stormsfury777 I agree but this caliber of bowler should still be better. Missed hitting marks , missing single pins and chopping spares. Nah it was pitiful. All the way to the first seed. Strike or nothing
Why? I dont care who it is, people like Belmo are the people we need in Professional sports. People showcasing not just their skill, but also their mental strength and durability. Belmo is cold as ice and he has that mental strength all the greats have to shut out the anxiety and nerves, and do his job. Its what pro sports are all about. All you can do is respect Belmo and his game.
@@joaobaeta5440 Bro, who cares what their form looks like.. If it works, it works. Belmo's style and form is proving to be the most versatile and successful. Moreso than Simo, Jesper, Troupe, etc.. He has more side-axis rotation that allows him to come into the pocket super hard at more extreme angles, which is how he carries so well. For example in the TOC, look how many trip-4's and trip-10's Belmo had. The form is irrelevant if the result is successful. This is a true example of dont judge a book by its cover. Altho, Belmo's form and style isnt even bad. There are far worse than Belmo.
Worst TOC ever. Bowlers were awful and it made me feel like I could’ve gone out there and really given the “pros” a run. Horrible bowling this weekend and I was extremely disappointed. Atrocious.
nah the conditions were insanely difficult not to mention all the people on the show made it through 6 rounds of match play to get to this point. If they weren't the best they wouldn't have made it to the show, regardless of how they did on the show
