In the Army we used to get blanks mixed into our live fire drill magazines which don't cycle properly and cause a jam specifically to force that training to be realistic. If it took longer than 5 seconds to clear a jam in a rifle we got smoked. By my count it took 28 seconds to clear a far more simple pistol which is beyond unacceptable. Nevermind the dozen times she pointed her weapon at herself, her partner, and innocent civilians...

My dad was a cop and when he trained me on handguns he would always say incase of a malfunction “Tap, Tap, Rack” that would fix 90% of malfunctions in under 3 seconds.

Once, I saw a video of a US marine in Iraq firing the big 50.cal from atop a Humvee, the gun jammed whilst he was under fire. He lifted the big lid at the top, pulled the chain of ammo out, removed the jammed round, reloaded the 50 cal, and carried on firing again. All in like 10 seconds. Was very cool. How could she not unjam a pistol? Surely she has training for it?

I worked as an instructor at a gun range in Northeast Pennsylvania and we would have cops from NY City come in all the time to practice for their yearly trials. Oh Lord, some of the things I saw. They were some of the most clueless, unsafe people I ever saw holding a gun in my life. And they were trained! There were a couple of great guys that knew what they were doing but the rest? Holy Christ! And they would give you attitude. One cop I had to kick out because he kept pointing his muzzle at people and when I would tell him to be careful he would laugh at me like I was an idiot and it was all a joke.

Why are NYPD cops driving to North East Pennsylvania to practice for requalifications? Plenty of ranges a lot closer to practice, you must be getting all the idiots, I’ve seen plenty in a big department

@@johnlovett651 Yeah...they must be sending them the rejects considering there's 35,000 police in the NYPD. And no, that's not a typo. I live 45 mins outside the city on Long Island, and if I call 911 I can get a cop to my location on average in under 5 mins.

It comes down to training and practice. If you practice something enough, it becomes muscle memory and then you're less likely to have difficulty with it even if you're panicking because your brain doesn't need to think about it, it's automatic.

As for oversight, it's important that the people in charge know how to do police work but civilian oversight is also crucial. We have seen what happens when agencies investigate themselves. It shouldn't be difficult for agencies to operate under some kind of civilian oversight but literally everything is political these days so what's good for the community is pretty far down the priority lists. Local control is also important.
@canadianninja1756
@canadianninja1756 7 месяцев назад
Civilian oversight of some things yes. But a civilian oversight committee to decide what tactics/methods of operation are acceptable for use by a bunch of people who have never been cops is absolutely ridiculous. In my opinion, in order to be on a civilian oversight committee you should have some law enforcement, first responder experience so that you actually understand how dangerous it is to work the streets. Especially at night in Chicago.

Yeah, if you’re going to be entrusted with a firearm, you must must be sufficiently trained and periodically be tested to show proficiency with safety. It should be the bare minimum that if an officer is issued a firearm they must be certified that they can operate it safely to protect the public and themselves.

@@MichaelCouture87 The channels are very different. What I'm saying is, they are not comparable. ASP focuses on survival tactics and preparedness in real-life self defense scenarios while Donut Op focuses solely on police tactics and procedures, determining whether or not the officers acted in a justifiable manner. I know the ASP Badge-Cam episodes focus on this a little bit as well but this is mostly the sole purpose of DOs channel.

@MichaelCouture87

@@canadianninja1756 Donut Operator overly injects himself into the stories he covers. ASP definitely covers a broad range of self-defense stories, but there's a wealth of police procedures/encounters covered on that channel that, IMO, is far more informative and apolitical than DO. To each their own, but DO seems like a lot of other sensationalized channels that are more focused on cheap engagement than actually providing a service to educate people and find common ground. The Blokes tend to react to those types of channels over the more nuanced ones for the same reason. I'm personally not a big fan of it.
@canadianninja1756
@canadianninja1756 7 месяцев назад
@@MichaelCouture87 Donut might not come across as someone trying to find common ground because there is literally no common ground to find. It's either police procedure or it isn't. It's either a good shoot or it isn't. You might not like Donut's political views but he still calls it like it is. It's not like he's a mindless robot who only defends police. He's literally calling out the cop in this video. And ASP certainly aren't apolitical either. Maybe more so than Donut but the political commentary is still there, while being much more vague.

Yeah, I don’t think civilian oversight is the issue here. Civilian oversight should encourage more training, not less. Sometimes it’s lack of funding, poor leadership, poor organization, or maybe just an incompetent individual. Lord knows there are plenty of those.

US has great shortage of police and a lot of departments are extremely underfunded and under staffed. Abolishing the police movement in recent years also done even more damage to it. For a lot of departments, officers simply do not have enough off time to get training and departments do not have enough resource to even provide them with opportunity. Some officers that care about their job, they take tactical courses from civilian organization and often paid out of their own pocket. Even here in America, many non-gun people just assume police officers are firearms expert and can handle it better than others. However, reality is that most civilians that regularly shoots at the range are far more skilled and knowledgeable with firearms than most officers. In terms of firearms knowledge, case is same for the military. A lot of people assume being in the military makes you a gun expert. But having been in the military myself, you are limited to firearms that are issued to you and limited to training orchestrated by your unit. Unless you own guns and regularly train outside of your job, civilians tend to have more variety of firearms and get to spend far more times with it then many service members. One of the big problem with the US police quality is that most work for wage less than what some restaurant workers make in some states. Uvalde police officers got a lot of shit on after the school shooting, but their annual salary is 35k. I am not saying what they did was justified but we get what we paid for. 35k salary most likely means that department also doesn't have enough money to give these officers proper training. What many civilians fail to understand is the amount of stress these officers have to work under. In military, we know when we are in danger area. During peace time, it's just a physically demanding job. But for police, their daily routine patrol can turn into massive gun battle and every human they interact with could be the villain of the century. A simple traffic stop can turn into you getting shot at. That is a lot of stress and PTSD. And they work long hour while getting shit pay. This is why the US is having police shortage and continuous decline of quality. We can't have 35k salary cops and expect Navy SEAL DEVGRU quality. The answer isn't abolishing police or defunding the police. Answer is providing them with proper funding so the job is more attractive for more qualified people and can receive proper training. The officers we see in the video are product of defunded police. Department is short on people, so they just hire people that wouldn't normally make the cut. Their basic trainings are shit because they most likely won't make the cut if they had bigger pool to select them from. This is a problem but seems like many are looking for solution in wrong places.

Aptitude has long since been abandoned when it comes to law enforcement. Its about numbers and demographics. Calling for a police officer is rolling the dice on what you are going to get. It's another reason why being able to defend yourself is important. Not only can it take too long for someone to get there but there is a decent chance you would get shot by the people you call.

DEI, defund the police, this is what you get. Can't even clear a jam. Tap Rack Bang. Drop mag, Tap, Rack, Bang. That's how you clear a jam. Not point it at motorist, your partner, your hand, or sticking your finger in the ejection port to pull out a spent casing or live round. That's how you break a finger. They ran for cover, but then run to their car in the open. Makes no sense. I put 10s of thousands of rounds down range. I practice and practice and practice so I can be able to draw my weapon when needed, or clear a jam. Painful to watch.

@minuette It doesn't matter what it's about. It's what you get. You demand more training, but training costs money. Cops don't get paid enough to deal with your shit, so they quit, and only the incompetent and the power hungry stay. You complain they're too militarized, but I'd rather have cops who can smoke a criminal easily than that San Fran fiasco a couple decades back. And funnily enough, that BLM bitch who started all of this 1) used donation money to buy a bunch of big mansions for herself in WHITE neighborhoods and 2) has private security. BLM doesn't give a damn about blacks until it's convenient. I didn't see anyone shouting "No justice no peace" when that little (black) girl was shot in a (black) gang drive by in Chicago shortly after Floyd OD-ed on fentanyl in '20. I guess black lives don't matter if it's another black guy who ends it.
