Hi. Nice of you to document the state of this hotel before it begins its slow decline under the Britannia ownership. I think it used to be a four star. Most of the 'grand' hotels would have looked as good as this before their hay-day's were over. Love the opportunity to see inside some of the hotels that National Holidays use as well as have independent thoughts outside of the trust pilot reviews.
Visited there maybe 2 or 3 years when it was already Britannia owned and it was in a right state. Looks like they’ve done a lot of work in upgrading it - carpets, painting, etc - and I’m guessing the “Elite” title may mean it’s Britannia’s “upper class” sub-brand? Also, most of the people who will be staying there will probably NOT be stag/hen do’s, druggies, etc, who create a lot of the mess, damage, vandalism in the big-city Britannia hotels - more like OAPs coach-tours here.
I used to work at the Palace Hotel many moons ago as a Hall Porter… many memories … like the night that central Chandelier smashed all over the floor!!!
Stayed in the room just above the hotel entrance. It a large room but the furniture was very large and oppressive. Enjoyed the stay though and Buxton is a lovely town.
That hotel for Britain’s looks really nice I’ve stayed in 2 and never again but this one looks as if it’s looked after I work in housekeeping in a hotel and I’m terrible when I go away 🤣 as you can imagine !! 🤣 the only Brittania hotel I stayed in that was ok is the Imperial Torquay but the other 2 nah this hotel is defo worth the money you pay just wondered is a breakfast included? 😊
We stayed here last month. What surprised me is they don't supply buxton water jn the rooms, we got Harrogate. Was a decent hotel for the price, great buffet breakfast also
Another very informative video to get notions of travel juiced up so to speak . It seems a very nice choice. I have heard of people choosing to stay in Manchester environs rather than in the city itself of late . I suppose Buxton falls just inside this geographical space . Glossop has also been mentioned . Any comments ?
I stayed here 15 years ago and it looked tired and old so glad that your video shows a vast improvement. It is a lovely historic building. The park in Buxton has many happy memories for me. I lived there for 10 years near Buxton but the town started to decline a lot with shops closing and charity shops popping up everywhere. The weather can also be awful, but the scenery and the people are just wonderful.
