Long ship rush is always viable on archipelago lmao. If you’re constantly pillaging you can easily catch up to the AI.

wait, what? longship rush are the most OP in the game. I basically just won a game where I played solo against 7 Deity AI Teams by using the longboat rush strategy. I have played Norway at least 6 times on Deity and I have never had a situation where a longboat rush did not work.

@@AeonQuasar You have to spawn relatively near an opponent so that you can get to them before they put walls up. You have to not get bogged down by barbarians. Their cities need to have at least two coastal tiles so that you can get multiple attacks per round. You need at least two cities, probably 3 so that you can overcome loyalty issues. There is a reason every reputable Civ expert puts Harold C-tier at best.

@@martinhall9497 The AI often does not have the decency to improve tiles near the coast or to repair what you have pillaged.

@@jyutzler Nah. The only reason Harold are C tier or lower are because of map type. On archipelago against deity AI he's S tier. On Pangea he's C tier. On highlands he's E tier. The point with longboats are not to capture cities. It's to pillage. Harold's shipbuilding ability can produce melee ships way faster then everyone else and really dominate the sea from the start. The only defence against him are placing units on top of coastal improvements/districts and building walls to defend cities. You can't compete against him on sea unless you fast research Carvels and get out 3-4 pieces before he spots you.

This sounds a little bit like a lie. Especially mansa musa. Some cultures are rigged to start in certain places.!Mansa Musa it is a desert. Australia I’m pretty sure is plains hills near a desert. Portogual should be flood plains, so that checks out.

and England I think has floodplains rigged for it too

@@thesterwood6721 No, it's not a lie. Mansa Musa has a tier 1 start bias to flat desert tiles. That means it's very likely to start with those tiles nearby. Otherwise, a tier 5 start bias towards all resources that can be improved with a mine, except Amber and Uranium. That means there's a chance none of these conditions will be met, and you'll get a random start. I.e., Tundra if you're unlucky. Also, Silver is a resource that can be improved with a mine. Silver only spawns in desert and tundra tiles. So, spawning in tundra is possible. Portugal has a tier 1 start bias to coastal tiles. Again, this means extremely likely, but not guaranteed. Dunno why you think Portugal is supposed to start by floodplains, because that's dead wrong. It's only start bias is coastal tiles. If not a coastal start, your start is random. Australia has a tier 3 start bias towards coastal tiles, and tier 5 start bias towards cattle, sheep, and horses. That's it.

@@thesterwood6721 England has a tier 3 start bias towards coastal tiles, and tier 5 start bias towards coal and iron. The coastal is somewhat likely, but definitely not guaranteed. Tier 5 is rare. Tier 0 would be guaranteed, and tier 5 is the least likely. Civs like Germany have no start bias whatsoever, so you'll always get a random start. I don't think any civ has a guaranteed start bias, or at least the last time I checked there wasn't. But yeah, I've never been able to play England (Victoria), because I *always* have a terrible start. Single player or multiplayer, I'm either on a coastal tile with flat tiles everywhere, so shit production; inland or coastal tundra tiles (i.e., virtually guaranteed defeat on Diety or MP), or crammed in a tiny corner with no room to even place a 2and or 3rd city because city states up my ass, or another civ. And, before anyone says it... Huge map, Continents and Islands, 15 City-states, I remove 2 starting AI. It'll still cram almost all civs on one continent, and there'll be an entire giant continent empty. Shit start algorithm.

@@rift8966 See your turning it into an argument. I’m not an expert and I agree that I am wrong, but there was no need to be disrespectful. I wrote my comment in mind that I could be incorrect and that i shouldn’t act like I was trying to betrate you. I was merely speaking from experience. I have no need or care for knowledge on a Teir 3/5 start bias, I was merely saying that it was most likely an exaggeration and unlikely because of start bias. I also spoke from experience not from a wiki or anything so yes, your 100% likely to be correct. On Portugal, I’ve always gotten floodplains and coast. I’ve played about 5-6 marathon games with it. With Aussie, I’ve always gotten plains with desert nearby. I love this civ and have played 12ish marathon games with it. For Mansa Musa, I always started in desert, sometimes near Sahara el beyda, eye of the Sahara etc.

thats because you are optimizing more and more that means you are building less cities but they are powerful enough to get you victory... a good 1 city will probably beat 3 bad ones

Would that actually be an issue? As long as you can build a harbor, you can get boats out. You just would have to get builders from some city you conquered.

This is clearly a custom map made in worldbuilder. Just make you own map and put mountains around your start location.
