Mortal Kombat 1 Khaos Reigns Review and Finale! Many Players say it's Terrible! But is that Really True? Today Let's Discuss the New Story Mode and the Finale! Please no Spoilers in the Comments! #mortalkombat1 #gaming
Leaving havik on the ground alive and not showing anything afterwards when he's the main villain of the expansion and can regenerate is the worst thing I've seen in fiction and i'm not exagerating
They should’ve made him laugh afterwards and show another fight scene of him trashing on em, then they would have to band together to take him down in a stunning fashion
Story has lost all meaning after the infinite timelines crap, nothing matters and everyone beat Kronika. The story was amazing when there was only 2 timelines one for liu Kang and one for Shang Tsung.
Yup. Multi verse story lines just invite lazy writing. MK has become madam web level bad. Even worse is that they will keep this same, terrible writer for every game.
Agreed. I was in love with the idea that they were starting over with Mortal Kombat 1. It was an opportunity to tell a new story with well known characters. I loved the changes until they mentioned timelines. There is no need for it. 😡
@@Dis2good I felt the same way. I thought they learned their lesson and were trying to make a grounded, consistent lore instead of having to retcon everything. Instead they threw that all away in favor of saying that there is no more lore since anything can happen in the multiverse. I hate it.
The story is absolutely terrible. So many missed opportunities. All khaos versions are basically the same normal ass normal characters, just with mohawks. This whole story mode is just low effort af
We used to make fun of MK jobbers but these ones aren't even our jobbers so no one especially gives a fuck about them lol. It was an absolute bore fighting these guys and not our actual characters
@@Deathmare235 true but maybe they could've introduced other types of titans? the disappearance of someone like Kronika surely wouldn't have gone unnoticed by such creatures.
I've been a havik main since launch and i do really good, i'm glad they buffed him but jeez, not even getting to see Titan havik being defeated is just lame, I wish I didn't buy this expansion :(
So it’s not just me… Like I said, underwhelming. And the biggest flaw.. WTF HAPPENS TO HAVIK? That was the most in the air defeat I’ve ever seen in MK. Idk if he’s imprisoned, dead, or returned to his timeline. Barely seems he was defeated
@Unariel_ Your absolutely correct. The only positive is that sector n cyrax aren’t nearly as weak and annoying as I thought they’d be. The rest is in the air. The ending/havok’s defeat isn’t even clear
The story was nonsense. I'm fine with black lesbian main character whatever, and if characters are stupid, if it's characteristic, OK. But Liu Kang really is continuing Raiden's tradition of incompetence and schizo reasoning..
@@serioussilliness2064 incompetence and schizo reasoning in what way? just because he didn't want to kill Havik after Shang Tsung's death proved Havik's timeline might collapse if he's killed and thus kill untold numbers of people who might otherwise recover from what Havik's done?
In my opinion NRS made Liu Kang incompetent and stupid. Like why did he make all the bad characters evil again and say “I hope they make better choices”?
To be fair one of the main plot points M1K's story is that Liu Kang rewrote the lives of certain villains in the hopes of setting them straight but they ended regressing to how they used to be thanks to Titan Shang Tsung's manipulation
you can't stop every inconvenience, even with powers to reset the timeline you can't stop a constant. shang tsung will always go on to become evil, shao khan will always be a tyrant in outworld, etc. that's why the huge marketing quote from this game was "it's in our blood" bc no matter who resets the timeline these things will be the same.
Can't believe we still didn't get a proper MK9 Remaster. I recently made a tribute video of X360 as the last great generation (hope I'm wrong) and when capturing the footage, I re-visited MK9. I'm in awe how amazing it is. The story mode - which serves as a reboot - is great, better than the 2020 movie we got. Gameplay, maps, characters, costumes, art style are such a tribute to the arcade MK's from the 90's we grew up with.
I mean…half the reason mortal kombat games are still selling at this point is for the graphics. A remaster pretty much just undercuts the current Mortal Kombat game. I.E. business wise not a savvy decision.
@@theghostofsparta4528 Yes, thnx so much for saying that! Or at least a Switch port. New MKs on Switch dont run that well. I remember, many years ago, watching Shalon Monks intro with the MK Theme song playing in the background - badass.
I argue the story in that game is the cancer that procreates everything after. It's horrible but if you tell me you ever played MK for the story I know full stop you are LYING.
This was literally what I was expecting. I expected another reboot with a similar elements of MK9 set in 1992. This game overall is just disappointing.
The ending was so horribly written like having being such a bad ass is taken down by noob really? And just got Lu Kang to become a somewhat bad guy locking up noob as well like this ending was so poorly written. Ed boon saying there was a huge surprise and stuff..... yeah the surprise was how fast the climax concluded
and how did Kang become even remotely a bad guy? he got tired of the guy's selfishness that was going to result in the destruction of an entire timeline and it's inhabitants and, as I recall, locked him away until Havik's magic could be undone to fully restore Bi-Han
I can't believe Sektor didn't have any failsafe built into the armor just in case Cyrax betrayed the Lin Kui. Also, why did Sub-Scorp think that Cyrax had absolute loyalty to BiHan when we see that she barely listens to him?
I just realised the interaction between Liu Kang and Noob Saibot was the same as Raiden and Liu Kang in MK9. Except this time, Liu Kang allowed Noob Saibot to fight Havik and the flame on Liu's hands didnt kill Noob Saibot
But his design is sick in this mk game, cant argue with that, but his blood should have look like black lok reptile blood is green even dvorah had blue blood too.
Ngl this story was some ass. Where was it even going and what was the point You fought character teams* twice like why?! 🤷🏾♂️ Fill up the time? Make you think it's a flushed out story and worth the cash spent. *Sigh* listen I was advocating for Ed and the devs but this isn't it man. I'mma just love the characters and thanks for noob especially ✌🏾⭐👌🏾 (unless this leads into another story add-on later down 🤷🏾♂️)
@@kylesinkovich8332 They're literally better depictions of them as characters than the originals ever were lol. Before they were literally Bi-Han's yes men until the Cyber Initiative when Cyrax started showing remorse. Literal nothing burger characters.
It was ok at best. Having said that…I don’t think this story is done for some reason. It seemed incomplete. Here’s to hoping because this ending was rather deflated
Marvel Kombat 1 Khaos is a rehashed lazy attempt! Going by their formula, we’ll have 24 more expansions with each character as a Titan smh. I miss good story, Elder Gods, Tournament, Shinnok, Onaga etc
The Red Aedsing reference was such an asswart moment. No one to remind the Main Characters they're Good Guys and People They Care About are getting slaughtered around them? No way to make that joke After The Battle, Johnny? Was the information so crucial it couldn't wait until you held victory? Yeah they had to talk like a Marvel fluck. At least it doesn't suck as bad as everything about modern gamingconomics...
I was hoping that the would of left a cliff hanger for another story expansion dlc but this ending was trash .. SECRET ENDING!? ..? Ngl This time line is starting to suck
Was really hoping we’d get something leading into the Next MK Game. I’m wondering if we might get another story expansion… it felt so incomplete. What happened with Havik wasn’t really explained super well.
I just felt like the multiverse stuff at the end of the original story of MK1 just felt super ridiculous and dumb and Khaos Reigns still has that ridiculous and dumb storytelling that it just takes you out of the gameplay
The whole point why this story sucked imo is because of the ending I thought that they would do more with titan havik he died in a very lame and not so cool way we can't even see what they did to him
@@serioussilliness2064 Did you ignore the part where Liu Kang needed to figure out how to unweave him from his timeline before dispatching him? As to not cause more unnecessary deaths? Sorry you're too thick skulled to comprehend that.
I haven’t bought MK1 yet but the one complaint I’ve heard over and over since its release is that the writing is a bit to be desired. Not that the writing is unbearable or out right terrible but just that it’s sometimes painfully inconsistent. Hopefully they’ll improve upon these things in later dlc’s but I’m kinda doubtful of that, at the moment.
Kombat pack 3 better do better who will new sub zero be and i see what they are doing they are focusing on introducing characters and let them be the story next time focus on lui timeline first before going to the multiversen johnny cage intro he called sareena bi han future bestie whatever that means
The multiple timelines ruined all the stakes and limits character development. Things that could’ve have made this better… - We could’ve had main timeline Rain sacrificing himself for Kitana or Tanya to make amends for his actions. (Rain/Tanya/Kitana Chapter) - Havik invade mainline Outworld and possibly have Mileena forced to have Shaos Rebel Army assist (Shao/Reiko Chapter) - Takeda actually being used in the story mode - Geras chapter
The game play and klassic tower is awesome. The story graphics and artwork is amazing. The writing and story is what sucks. Invasions sucks too and not sure half the time what the artifact or whatever they are called do or how you are supposed to use them really
Honestly this would have benefitted alot from cutting the lin kuei storyline i think, as is they feel like they have to charge through plot points to fit everything they wanted, Havik needed to have more, like explaining if he has a limit to the body regen shit instead of just acting like a buffed titan variant cant regen after getting his limbs ripped off a few times
It was really mid writing that was done simply to introduce the new characters, I feel like aftermath took way more money and effort so for MK1 they scaled back to maintain a decent profit. I hope that whatever comes next for MK is they ditch the multi-timeline stuff, make liu kang a more background support character and flesh out the world that we currently have without the cheap multiverse re-skin crap. MK is at a severe low-point and needs an overhaul.
I definitely like what they were going for, no second phase for a boss? Idk how to feel about that only because kronika only had one phase but her fight was so grand that it made up for that 😅
@@Kinshinobi It's sad to see my favorite franchise handled like this. Normally I would blame WB, but Netherrealm didn't even put any effort into this one.
@@Joker2003-v6x ye havik was also wearing the kamidogus even if havik made him op. How did he make him powerful at the point it went over his own limits??. The kamidogus are above havik
@@playhub4330 I assuming you wanted Liu Kang to beat him ?if you wanted that to happen it would have also made zero sense because of the point you used before
@@Joker2003-v6x no I did not. What I wanted was him to lose to anyone in a way that makes SENSE AT LEAST. Their reason for noob to beat was terrible the reason was. That noob downloaded HAVIKS abilities but once again even if he predicted everything havik is a titan and should beat noob with a just one atom of his. A reason that was abt to make sense was that havik made bi han too powerful at the point where he became more powerful than him. But they ruined that why because Havik was using the kamidogus which makes him a quintillion times stronger than he already is. So that means that not only is bi han more powerful than keeper of times but also more powerful than the kamidogus and keeper of time combined.
After seeing the story, i needed some times to think, and yeah, it ain't great. It was fine, it started good but halfway, things fell apart. The only thing saving was Havik but then again, it has problems. also, didn't they say there would be a suprise appearance at the end? Cause i don't see where that happens. Btw, check out the acarde ladder endings for the dlc characters, especially Sektor and Noob Saibot
To me it was 6/10! The worst thins about all of this is the gender swapping and the romance between the so called female Sektor and Bi Han and disputed past between ''Cyrax'' and Kuai Liang
Let's not forget how noob beat titan havik even tho he's 10000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000× weaker than him. Like even if he download his abilities it's still too much for noob to handle.
@@Deathmare235 it always had good stories but so many inconsistency including: Sonya bearing scorpion Stryker beating ermac and kintaro Noob beating titan havik
Really good points at the end. Those were my main critiques. I thought as a story it was a letdown. They could have done so much more with havik. And it was way too short for 50 dollars. Wtf, 50 dollars for this dlc? C’mon
I still have to go through the story myself, only watched the final to find the opinion... From the remarks, I can't help but shake the feeling that this was "a distraction" / "lab test" if you will. Someone pulling strings but not hard enough so they don't get noticed too soon, influencing thoughts slightly so they get a good view of this timeline. Tytan Shao, titan Shinock / Cetrion, options by the boatload...
@@banyxo green energy is literally proven to be powerful enough to kill elder gods and what was shinnok an eldee god what did Cassie cage have green energy. So how does it not make sense nobody disliked it only a few idiots who just want to hate for the purpose of. Hating
Ah yes, the kiss of death from SBI on the story. Who is surprised they produced a shiny turd? MK1 is the first MK game that I have skipped and I haven't looked back. I did enjoy this video so thanks for the review!
it's enjoyable it's to me just a fun journey with random mk characters and as you said if I'm gonna analyse everything I'll end up hating it so I decided to just have fun.. but I can't ignore the ending at all it's not full I HAVE TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED WITH HAVIKKK😭😭
I swear if I heard 'Khaos' one more time I would have Hara Kiri'd. You can't tell me a five year old didn't write this script. So many inconsistencies and plotholes from Cyrax's rushed nonsensical betrayal, to Subzero portal hopping for no reason and having a useless arc to main villain infamous for self mutilation being defeated by... mutilation Maybe it only being 90 munites long was a blessing in disguise if this is the product we get
Asking for a story arc for Bihan!!!! Haha That's really asking too much of netherrealm. Remember how they choose to make Sindel bad just because her name sounds evil in Mk11? So so dumb
I think the visuals and characters really carry this experience. The characters, while not fully developed properly imo, are still interesting characters cause the colorful MK cast is always fun to watch and play. The story and development just doesnt happen at a satisfying pace. Moving way too fast and not allowing its characters to breathe and have their moment to shine. I completely agree with your critique on Havik, hopefully they they improve the main timeline Havik and make him more chaotic in the future, i think there is definitely room to grow his character. Finally, the timeline stuff really needs to wrap up fast. Liu Kang or SOMEONE needs to create one timeline and give a middle finger to all the other ones. it's killing the stakes. While i enjoyed it, immensely, it couldve definitely been improved. I kinda hope that we get no more story DLCS and move on to the next game(After a kombat pack 3 and maybe 4). I think its time to progress forward in the story instead of trying to hastily wrap all the different plots this game set up.
My theory about how Geras couldn't just stop the people who are capturing him is because they're from another timeline and he can only freeze who's in liu kang's timeline only
I'll give main mk1 story 2/10 and I'll give khaos reigns 5/10 really love the khaos reigns story one like the noob saibot scenes and one thing I don't like on main mk1 story mode is the chapter 15 ending just really bad made me sad yeah just not like the chapter 15 love the video ☺️👍🏼
Really? I think people got wrong and of this game. Well for me this game I really love this great game ❤ and I got feeling the next game might come soon very soon.
I knew it was going to be bad when they sent Sector and Cyrax with Scorpion but had no intervention from Smoke 😆 Like why would Scorpion not take Smoke with him to a new realm over being stuck with two traitors 🤷♂️ Also the Gender swap sucked there was no point in that
These versions of Cyrax and Sektor are LIGHT YEARS above their original counterparts. Wtf are you talking about? Before they were literally just Bi-Han's yes men until the Cyber Initiative.
a 6 y.o kid would make a better story, but not surprised since i have seen just as worse from Woke-NRS with X, 11, Aftermath and 1's first story campaign. but this one is totally pointless, looks like they did this story DLC only to shove this new genderswaps in people's eyes. Wokeanda Cyrax and Bi Han's Sx DoII i mean Sektor. Woke-tal Kombat at its best
😂 aye at least the title of the dlc is true on the writing portion of the story.Shit was confusing and chaotic barely any structure to the story whatsoever 😂😂
of course its the worst story ever, it makes Teletubbies story looks like a masterpiece. what you expect from a story written by Woke-NRS and Sweet Baby. the story did add nothing to the game, looks like they only added the story to introduce the newly added genderswapped powerpuff robo-dolls. cause you know its Woke-tal Kombat so they had to add WOUMAN POWAHH and WOKEANDA in every corner of the plot :)
I can unironically just tell your entire life in a nutshell Family doesn't want you around Women made fun of you People in school didn't wanna be around you And you built your entire personality around bootlicking "anti-woke" people because being annoying is the only way anyone in your life decided to acknowledge you actually exist
Anyone else feel like some of the movement animations were a bit janky in the cutscenes? That aside, for the story, it was "fun" but it certainly wasn't anything remarkable. Also not so sure about how it hasn't really set up the next stage for the story to move forward. The Kamidogu point in one direction typically, but it seems there was no indication of that inevitability.
I like that during story mode all of the characters are like "Noob your ego is getting the better of you" and he then proceeds to solo every major player, including Titan Havik. That's not ego that's being confident in your abilities. Like Titan Havik not beating the everloving shit out of him feels like a fake ending that you get for beating a fight you aren't 'supposed' to win (ex. Genichero in Sekiro).
I knew it was gonna be bad when they made Havik the final boss. They hyped it up for nothing. Starting to notice that mk doesn't know how to make a good storyline And where tf is smoke? Scorpion said that's his brother, but he wasn't even invited to his wedding
NRS has never had good writing, they've only had good presentation. Seems like people have finally had enough. The multiverse isn't the issue. It's bad NRS writing.
I sort of left the franchise after XL but have kept up with the stories, watching the RU-vid movies edited from the gameplay, and the last story I remember leaving me this disappointed was Halo 5. The ending of MK1 was really exciting, the prospect of Titan Havik really offered something unique and original for the story going forward but ultimately, the expansion was… DOA. Yes, Sektor, Cyrax, Emperor Rain, Empress Tanya, self-insert Saibot and specially WW Johnny Cage were all really cool BUT Titan Havik was supremely disappointing… he never felt like a legitimate threat, his realm just felt like discount Mad Max meets Rick & Morty’s idea of a dystopian post-apocalyptic future which… really ain’t chaos. Honestly, I think MK is dead. 11 sorta promised a bit, but MK1 proved that Ed Boon and co. simply cannot move the story forward or do anything new, stuck in a infinite loop. Watch, next will be MK2 where, like in the original MK2, Shao Khan invites all the other titans from the various other time lines to send their chosen warriors to fight to the death in Mortal Kombat with the winning realm conquering all others. Then, after the usual “Liu Kang wins, lol,” the whole thing turns out to have been part of Titan Shinnok’s plan, who having turned on his mother and become a Titan himself, has been working with Titan Quan-Chi to basically make MK3 a miss mash of MK 3 and MK4, only for it all to be revealed to be part of Titan Onaga’s long awaited return… finally, we will have MK Armageddon all over again except it will be a War of the Titans epic finale where Titan Blaze is the final boss ending with Titan Liu Kang sending messages to his past self leading to yet another reboot all the way through Noob Saibot becoming the stories new hero… because self-insert is self-insert. 🤭
I truly feel like they’re setting up the story where every timeline will merge into 1 and instead of timelines, the 6 realms will be reborn. Each realm will have its own “God” per say instead of there being titans. They left Havik alive so he could have his own Realm of Chaos. Shao and Reiko are currently rebelling in outworld which they will probably succeed and have outworld. Mileena and Kitana will somehow break away and have their own realm which will be Edenia. Obviously Liu Kang for earthrealm. I just don’t know about Orderrealm or netherrealm since quan chi is dead. It just ended way too abruptly for there to not be more.
Imteresting, I interpret that last scene as Kuai Liang correcting Cyrax at the end. Like a way of saying "you are officially Shirai Ryu now, you should probably start calling me Grand Master." Not necessarily that he was calling her Grand Master.
The MK1 story could have been fine, IF they just kept it between two timelines. Giving Mortal Kombat a multiverse was the dumbest thing they could have done. Changing all of these beloved characters was just character assassination after character assassination. Scorpion isn't Scorpion. Reptile has the REAL Scorpion's origin just copied and pasted. Tanya's entire personality has done a 180. And more I haven't mentioned here. I hate it when things like these are changed and I do think the lore of Mortal Kombat from here will be spat on like this game has done. Only hope is they remake the original games with the Same lore, or they start over again and completely ignore this game.
Fun fact: the Polish version of the subtitles for Cyrax/Scorpion conversation imply that she is grandmaster calling her "Wielka Mistrzyni (female version)" instead of calling Scorpion "Wielki Mistrz (male version)". So not only you were confused but whole team responsible for translation :D
I think Titan Havik in this case was just Organized Chaos, the best kind of Chaos. And to you a quote from a particularly funny series "My boy, all things are ordered and explicable. Even chaos harkens to the beat of unseen principles! There is no true 'RANDOMNESS', merely spontaneous whimsy! Flowers wilt, waters flow, aortic valves implode, vampires suck! But never for no reason."
This was terrible “Chaos” right? It was barely any chaos. This was controlled wickedness. For Havik to have the reputation he has, I was expecting MORE blood falling besides Rain. I’m not talking from the villains side, the hero side. I wanted Tanya to return to her roots as a betrayer, that didn’t happen. Noob was literally born from death, that should have been a layup to spin. You had a problem with Noob beating Titan Havik and I agree, me? I was stunned that Cyrax beat Bi-Han, and so soon into the story. You know what was true Chaos to me? The ending of MK9. Sindel wiping away 3/4 of the entire squad. Nightwolf sacrificing himself to take Sindel with him, Raiden and Liu getting into it til the point where Raiden accidentally kills Liu. That is chaotic. And it was fun. This? This was an attempt to follow up the added Shang Tsung add on from last game. Now I’m at a point where I hope they don’t do this again. Great content man, thank you for the video.
This expansion made me dislike more of the game as a whole. The main campaign using/alluding to the Dragon Kings Army and the expansion using The Komidogu but giving no mention of Onaga is such a massive missed opportunity. Sektor/Cyrax story was very cookie cutter and paint by numbers. I never disliked the gender swap but it wasn’t utilized for anything other than having some characters hit on them felt extremely reductive and it being armor rather than a full cyber conversion removed any stakes. No Hanzo hurts the Subzero/Scorpion rivalry as a whole. Instead of make it interesting in any way. Bi Han becoming Noob could have prompted Kuai Liang to begrudgingly taking up the moniker of Sub Zero in an attempt to unite his new clan with his old clan in order to save his brother and make the story much more interesting instead we just got Noob for the sake of Noob again removing any stakes by just fixing his brain with a magical hand wave. Rain and Tanya were the only ones who benefited from their story changes making them genuinely interesting and not mindless Jobbers but still fell flat by ignoring the fact that Rain can teleport just for the sake of having a “shocking” death. Titan Haviks plan had potential to be incredible but it just ended way too quickly and was so anti-climactic. Change for the sake of change is pointless and that’s what this entire expansion felt like.
I've seen this metioned here, but Geras should have frozen Havik after the Noob fight. They could have just shown him frozen and said whatever... 1 second scene, 1 line of dialog... done. They just show him on the ground in pieces, which they just spent time showing this as a good thing for him... literally 3 seconds, all they needed. Geras freeze, 1 line... "Havik has been sent to then void."
Initially, we were all left to believe that MK1 would be a reset for the franchise. That’s what we all wanted. Then came the timeline BS, followed by old characters and their story bleeding into this one. We just wanted a fresh start, not the crap we got. Khaos Reigns story was complete trash, probably a 4/10.
Hahaha, why are you still people having hopes for the story of this game? It is utter, fetid, bad written bullshit. The only salvagable thing is that it did not resort to repeat scenes from previous games. But is still bad.
Like you said having Havoc as a villain was a great idea but his character should have been fleshed out a little more even the story of the marriage we got a chance to see who's scorpion wife is but really no character development with her so I will say yes it is mid level expansion for the price the story could have been better and I know that we are getting extra characters but The lure of the story is what brings you back Time after Time
