Have you read the books? The books that movie is based on really don't hold back, especially not for children's books, at least from what little I remember reading them as a kid.
I totally get that, but I hate to be a killjoy because I love Tangled, and Disney movie or not, it is psychologically impossible to remember anything at that young of an age
@@Crazy-Cocoa-2.0 yeah I get that, its kind of ridiculous. I just always assumed she subconsciously remembered the sun mobile thing but its not really possible
@@Crazy-Cocoa-2.0 I mean... we're talking about the same girl who was born with magic hair. It's absolutely impossible for a normal person, but Rapunzel isn't a normal person. The better question is whether or not the flower's powers would even grant her such an ability or not.
Tangled will always feel like one of Disney’s most well constructed movies to me. All the characters are great and have amazing chemistry, the plot feels very natural, the songs are amazing and it has one of the best Disney couples. The bedroom scene is probably the biggest nitpick of the movie, but it’s hard to deny that it’s much more satisfying for Rapunzel to piece everything together rather than it being told outright to her. Easily my pick for the best of 2010, but I can see the case being made for both Toy Story 3 and HTTYD as well
Tangled will always be one of my favourite Disney movies. I never got why it was and still is often overlooked, especially considering that the movies which came after it are pretty much build on it.
The Megamind ending dancing scene was supposed to be kinda awful. The scene is supposed to be a parody of animated movies just ending with all the characters dancing and having a good time.
@@Pooky1991 there's a difference between ending the movie with a song/reprise that closes out the story and just cutting to the characters dancing to a random pop song.
I still remember all high school teacher show these kinds of movies to the class because they knew teens are still children (sans prince of locks one because of his suspicious hatred of teens)
Meh, I saw _Star Wars_ when I was a kid and it'll be 50 in a few more years. Getting older is better than the alternative as they say. But _Shrek_ was released on April 22, 2001, so he's old too. Does that help? 😄
@@Jumpylegs Oh yeah you're right, I hadn't seen that Schaffrilas video. I mean personally I prefer his YTP's to his video essay/review format, but I enjoy this topic enough to check this particular video out.
Unpopular opinion, but How To Train Your Dragon 1 was the best out of the trilogy. None of the emotional moments in the other two can top the moment Stoick frees Toothless from under water, and calls Hiccup his son.
yeah I have to agree. I didn’t like the 3rd one tbh (though the conclusion was well constructed, how they got there felt a little weak) and the second one was pretty good but did have some flaws which holds it back from being better than the first one.
Real talk, the B couple in Alpha and Omega were precious and deserved their own movie. I swear a separate team was writing their segments, they were adorable.
Romance in movies where the relationship is not the entire focus of the plot will _always_ feel rushed compared to series or romantic movies just because of time constraints.
Exactly this. With how limited a movie's run is, anything that isn't a priority in its run is going to naturally feel rushed. Film makers have to pick and choose a focus to dedicate the film to so the overall story they want to tell is told, and anything not directly to that cause is likelier to be weaker. Not to say films can't do a good job with multiple facets during its limited run, just that it has less opportunity to do so than other mediums.
I barely remember Firebreather. Doing research, it’s actually based off a comic series published by Image Comics. Heck the main character even appeared in the Invincible comics. Also imagine a world where Megamind did as well as Despicable me.
Honestly, I'm kinda glad it didn't do as well? It's just that, if it did, Dreamworks would probably turn it into this huge franchise and milk it to the point that everyone would get sick of it, same as with Despicable Me. I'd much rather have it as a fondly remembered classic, than a franchise everyone's tired of.
*sees Shrek in the redzone of the thumbnail* *sweats nervously* Edit: *oh it's not the 2nd one nvm; that one was awesome* Edit 2: Thank you for putting Guardians of Gahoole! Yes, no one ever really talks about it, but it's one of my fave movies and book series of all time ^^
I remember when I first saw Despicable Me in theaters, and everyone in my family absolutely loved The Minions, Vector, Dr. Nefario, and Gru's redemption from Despicable Villain to an adoptive father of 3 girls. However, as of the release of this video, I would rather hear Fluttershy scream than hear a Minion babble.
True fans watched her original 2009-2012 list videos before she deleted them and we're her only videos for a long time until that frozen review in 2013.
Fun fact: The character was originally supposed to be a member of the Young Avengers in the Marvel Universe and Duncan was to be the son of the alien dragon Fin Fang Foom, a foe of Iron Man.
15:40 This series has the BEST dragon designs ever. nothing else comes close. every design is unique, interesting, and innovative. There are only a handful of designs that I'm not the biggest fan of (but they are all solid designs)
2010 is easily my favorite year in Animation. It where western Animation peaked. Toy Story 3 is my second favorite Pixar movie, Megamind and HTTYD are my favorite DreamWorks movies, Tangled is in my top 10 Disney Animation movies, Despicable Me is my favorite, Illumination movie (which is saying the least through. My literal favorite movie come from this year.
@@joshuajoe1419 No you say my literal favorite movie came from that year It can't be toy story cause it's only you second favourtie pixar movie so what is it?
@@fermintenava5911 how is it lazy. Seriously watch Schaffrillas Production video. Even if you don't want to the vast majority of the comments agree that cellspex did shrek forever after dirty
“It’s too bad no one remembers it.” Me: *Sadly looks at my entire collection of the book series of Owls of Ga’hoole.* Seriously though you should check them out, they are a ton better than the movie, and a lot darker.
Yeah but then the rest of the list has a lot of really questionable choices, so she also got down 73% for me. I mean, Legend of The Guardians above Shrek Forever After ? Really ?
@@theashendevil shrek forever after is a masterpiece and people just like to hold on to the negative perceptions they had of it when it came out 11 years ago instead of actually seeing the film for what it is. It might not be the funny, self aware parody of fairy-tales and clever critique to society’s norms like the previous entries on the franchise (excluding shrek the third), but it’s an emotional, heartfelt, epic journey of an ogre trying to fix the biggest mistake he has ever done and get his life back.
she implied shrek 4 was average and megamind was good. did you not watch the video at all? it's a great year for animated movies, of course they ended up earlier on the video's time bar.

Bardcore Cover of "Nothing Else Matters" by Algal "Brave New World", but I'm not sure whose remix. I don't know this one either "Emotional" by PeriTune "Epic Cinematic Dramatic Adventure Trailer" by Romansenykmusic. And yes, it's called that. "Rio de Janeiro" by Chamonix And another bardcore Cover, this time "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" by Stantough I left a new comment, with timestamps and titles for everything I was able to get.
When I was studying spanish, I remember my teacher had us watch Chico y Rita to train our ear and we spent a chunk of the following class discussing the movie in spanish.
I was thinking the same thing! It was hilarious- genuinely, wholeheartedly, hilarious! And I for once didn’t mind the love interest. Should have been top 3 for sure
I just love how Megamind pokes fun at common superhero tropes, then either proceeds to do the trope better or subverts the trope. Like literally starting with the "he landed in wealth, I landed in jail" thing, only to show that Megaman and Megamind both genuinely don't like what they thought they were obligated to be. Or how Roxanne was still not enamored with Hal even though "he's the good guy" because she still thinks he's a creep.
Every so often for the past ten years I think of Firebreather. Until today I could never remember it's name, but I'd always just try to remember if they explained the kids conception.
I thought she put The Owl House theme in Owls of Ga'hoole because of how well it fits. But it's because it's The *OWL* House theme in *OWLS* of Ga'hoole.
Something HTTYD has going for it (that a lot of people probably don’t realize) is it’s incredibly realistic portrayal of inventing and engineering in general. Hiccup starts building something and it doesn’t work the first time, so he continuously goes back and experiments with this design, making adjustments and improvements as time goes on. And it doesn’t stop when he gets it to work. He is constantly working on making Toothless’s tail, along with all his other gadgets, better. All his gear shown in later movies and the show has a practical purpose, from fireproof armor designed to look similar to a dragon to the pockets where he carries stuff like knives and his map. And the engineering uses actual physics! The stuff Hiccup makes is grounded in reality and not “oh this works because something something long technology words” that most movies do (it’s even more aggravating when they’re movies that pretend to care about that kind of stuff. Looking at you, BH6). Idk as a kid who loves engineering and knows stuff about aerodynamics I appreciate HTTYD for how it does all that stuff.
Hey, Cellspex, I can understand why you ranked Shrek Forever After so low; heck, even I didn't like it when I was younger. But I highly recommend watching Schafferillas Productions' video on why Shrek Forever After is an Underrated Gem. Love your videos, btw! Keep up the good work and I can't wait to hear your thoughts on future animated stories!
I noticed that CellSpex and Schaffrillas has so many contradicting opinions lol Big Hero 6 was such a disappointment to Schaffrillas while it was really good to Cell
I don’t see why a movie reviewing content creator should need to see what another movie reviewing content creator has to say just because their opinions differ
@@emblemblade9245__ It's just a suggestion; to see what others have to say about this film not only offers differing opinions, but intriguing insight. In the end, it's just that; a suggestion.
To be honest, I disagree with shrek 4s placement. It's your opinion, and that it perfectly fine, your opinion is valid and I do agree the opening is a bit hard to get through. However, it makes Shrek's redemption all the more sweeter. And the score when he fades out honestly makes me tear up to this day. Plus, I don't think it's meant to say "ooOOoh bEINg a dAd is hAaArd", but instead to show the status of the Shrek franchise at that point. Since this was when the Shrek franchise was seen as a joke. Nevertheless, your opinion is valid and you make some good points.
I remember loving so much Gahoole and How to train your dragon as a kid, they felt so different as animated movies Sadly, most of the animated movies nowadays are still mostly comedies :/
In this man's humble opinion, 2010 was the greatest year ever for animated films! Every studio produced some of the best films they they ever made with Toy Story 3, How to Train Your Dragon, and Tangled being some of my favorite films of all time!
I was today years old when I learned there were Alpha and Omega stans. Also, A Cat in Paris and Chico and Rita are so great. I'm glad to see them get some love.
I've always found that 2016 had some great animated films. Inside out, Zootopia, Your Name, Moana. It had some of the best Disney and Pixar films of the decade and it had Your Name which is my favorite movie
I never got a cheerleader vibe from Astrid. She's on the ball, serious and puts in the effort. Hiccup may be the dreamer who can find novel solutions, but Astrid is practical and efficient. Her problem is that she was working on the false pretense of what dragons were like because that was what was given to her by her family and fellows.
I think CellSpex meaned this in the context of the trope. 'Oh, I am the cold badass girl everyone loves and I could have any boy I want, but one fly-scene with the nerdy outcast is enough to decide that he's the most desirable men of all time.' And yeah, with that I personally can't argue - Astrids personality could have been so much better if they let it develope slowly and not like a whiplash between arrogance, jealousy and suddenly love, especially in the first movie.
A Cat in Paris: Never heard of it, but based on the artstyle, I do believe I _have_ seen a film from the same people, Ghost Boy, which I DID enjoy a whole bunch. Thanks for the rec.
I remember when Alpha and Omega was being worked on by the studio I was working at in India. The terrible horrible era of my life. They hadn't paid anyone for 6 months. Not that the salary was anything. Most of the work was being done by interns working for the experience or a stipend of $3 a month. But hey, the animation is my passion and I should be happy for the opportunity. Hope all the American studios that outsource their work for cheap exploitable labor burn in hell. Sorry for the rant.
I theorize it was going to be "Drift away" from Steven Universe. It would defenetly be my pick and if you use an SU song, you would defenetly get a copyright claim (A video I made got block in certain countries because a part had an SU song)
This comment section needs to STOP expecting Cellspex to agree with Schaffrillas. Cell Spex is a great critic and she can design her own opinions. SERIOUSLY PEOPLE SHOW SOME RESPECT.
16:00 worst thing about the series. STOP MAKING FUN OF HICCUP he defeated the red death ended a 7 generation war willingly attempted to sacrifice himself to save everyone else helps everyone else through their conflicts saved berk from a despot and his dragon look-alike guided berk through a fight with a intellectually deranged assassin and succeeded And that's not even mentioning the TV series
I had "Alpha and Omega" memorized as a kid because I would literally watch it EVERY. SINLE. DAY. Granted, I was eight when it came out, so I was drawn to anything that could hold my attention, but I would literally reenact the movie word-for-word with my Pet Shops and dolls 🤣
2010 has to be one of the best years for any style of film ever. You got The Social Network (should've won best picture), Black Swan, Inception, Toy Story 3, 127 hours and Shutter Island all in one year. Extremely stacked.
thought I would say if anyone loved the Tangled characters but not the music as much, WATCH THE SERIES! It starts off slow, but when the story fully kicks off, it is amazing and the songs work so much better and the new characters are really enjoyable (especially Varian!)
The fact that no one remembers legend of the guardians makes me feel really stupid for always quoting “you gotta feel it in ya gizzard” to my friends. Edit I also quote “into battle we shall fly,.... we’re all going to die” I related to that sarcastic kooky owl way to much as a five year old.
I was listening to this video in the background while I draw, and getting to 7:00 and hearing The Owl House theme snapped me to attention so quickly I think I got whiplash
I didn’t even realize so many of these films came out in 2010. I did remember HTTYD, Tangled and Toy Story 3 but that was it. Of course HTTYD was my favorite film of the year.
Idk about y'all but Megamind's last dance number was the first ending number I could stand Everything else before that was just second hand embarrassment because I was not at all a fan of musicals in emotional movies But that one was pretty enjoyable and it didn't make me wanna change the channel
Wait you’re seriously saying that Toy Story 3 deserved BEST PICTURE over Black Swan, True Grit, Inception, AND The Social Network???? Look, I know you love animation-I love it too-but that’s such a wild take that I... I just can’t imagine how anyone could watch all of those movies and be genuinely convinced that Toy Story 3 was objectively the best one.
@@steamboatwill3.367 Obviously it's possible for individuals to hold that opinion, that Toy Story 3 was the best film of that year. I just can't for the life of me understand how someone could then extrapolate out to the entire Academy and make the argument that a large group of people, who had seen every other Best Picture nominee (and you're right, I forgot King's Speech), should have agreed that Toy Story 3 was most deserving of the Oscar. There's a distinction between personal taste/bias and understanding the opinion nd perspective of the average moviegoer, or in this case movie connoisseur. I could sit here all day and talk about how it's crazy that more people don't consider Inside Llewyn Davis the greatest film ever made, but I wouldn't because expecting such a large swath of people to share a relatively niche (at least in this context) opinion is pretty unreasonable, in my opinion.
cell's opinion on toy story 3 makes no sense. in this video she calls it one of the best FILMS of all time, and should've won best picture, but in her 2019 rànking video, she doesn't even mention it as one of the best _animated_ films of the _2010s decade_ (and she listed more than ten too!), and she placed it near the midpoint of her pixar ranking.

How To Train Your Dragon has sticked the most since 2010. It had a likeable male lead, flawed father & son dynamic, had room to breathe with poignant sequences while featuring incredible flight sequences. That ending scene left audiences in shock, then everyone praised it for the taking that risk, with said protagonist. How To Train Your Dragon is a modern classic!
