Rafflesia should share S-rank with Stray Cat, one for damage and one for hacks. Rafflesia uses Entice which charms one enemy, doesn’t get resisted even by bosses, and doesn’t get broken until death. If Gau uses Entice, that monster is basically dead and can’t fight back whatsoever. I definitely applaud the effort you took to make this video! Just stumbled across your channel a couple days ago. Keep up the great content!
thanks a bunch! wasn't ever aware that entice was usable on bosses. that's such a game changer that never came up in my research for this somehow. since personally i never used gau casually
However Entice Screws up Goddess and her AI making her try to kill you FASTER with Cloudy Heaven as soon as charm HITS her. Doom Dragon is also a Kefka's tower rage one NOT worth using.
It is on bunch guide in game faqs, and has been for over a decade. And if you say you didn't check game faqs, how did you not check probably the largest collection of fan made video games guides ever?@@Bdewd
I managed to get it off as the first move against Kefka on my last playthrough. He never managed to attack me once and I never attacked him, just chuckled as he beat himself to death. Who's laughing now, clown?
Moos. Mousse is a dessert. So is Flan. The physical-immune magic-vulnerable slimes are all named after desserts or sweet jelly things that go on other things.
This madman actually did it. I thought he was going to do something simple and just do like a Top/Bottom list of must haves and must avoids, but this mad lad actually went and ranked every damn Rage. My hat is off to you, sir.
18:39 a note about Ahriman's Roulette rage: the automatic targeting for rages takes precedence over Roulette's random targeting, so Gau will always target enemies with it and it'll never miss barring immunities...
Ah, I thought Ahriman's Roulette would potentially target the player's characters, and made my comment about that with that in mind. I deleted my comment, now that I know about this. It still sucks either way, though.
Also when Relm sketch's for Roulette is ALSO only kills the enemies so when you fight those Onion Knights from the Magitech factory ON the Veldt and Relm sketches them for Roulette it would ONLY kill them.
This is the most effort I've ever done "for the memes" and boy howdy I'm glad it's done. Which rage do you think should've made it's way into A tier and why!?
Just started but hoping to see my favorite Wind God build Edit: and less than 2 minutes in my hopes are crushed, legitimate reasoning but I know stray is still good so I'll keep watching.
Rafflesia's Entice does not have Immunity I don't think, which makes it broken. Shouldn't be in D tier, guides have said it even works on the final boss!
@@Bdewd it's an obscure one, also it's possible to permanently miss the Rage as you have to interact with the Flowers painting before attacking Chardarnook otherwise it's lost forever. Bit of an oversight on the Devs part as it's such a missable Rage, so they likely didn't code immunity to its form of charm
I remember when I was a kid in 1994 and me and a friend of mine said "Duh I wonder what happens if you rage of a straycat" Well he fucking scratch your eyes out is what we learned!
Tyranosaur can up to B or A tbf. Lore Meteor is insanely strong since its a lore that doenst split damage. Dealling 4k+ to all enemies with no elemental unblockable spell is nuts.
I feel like the Mu rage is kinda underrated. It can be pretty useful early game against certain enemies that counter upon death since it'll bypass the counter. In particular it's really useful against Hill Gigas to avoid Magnitude 8. Also in the SNES version it's your best bet for Intangir farming, since it'll also bypass the Meteo counter with no MP cost.
Also Raflessia is easily one of the most busted rages in the whole game. Entice works on bosses as well as enemies, and since it prevents enemies from attacking you and doesn't wear off until one of you die... It basically shuts down every single boss fight you use it against, so you can either just watch them kill themselves or just wail on them with no repercussions. It's stupidly funny how easy it makes the game.
It also kills them on the PS1 version but other then Intangir killing the Mu Rage isn't worth using on anything else on the SNES/PS1 version on the Pixel version I still had Magnitude 8 counter the Mu Rage's snare UNLESS you imp the Hill Gigas first.
Intangir is actually really good for a chunk of the game due to its resists, and by then you're going to have Mute. just silence Gau and he can't transfusion, so even if he wastes a turn he's still nearly immortal. Exceptional in solo runs.
Coco's move Overture (formerly Love Token) is kinda interesting as it forces the affected opponent to "Cover" for her, taking any physical damage that would go to her. I've been screwed over by it before, so I just use magic on Coco and that does it. When cast, the dialogue box says, "Protect me!"
12:35 if you are undead, this means that you are immune to the Undead Drain backfire effect, and this is why many undead type enemies have draining attacks.
@26:45 This is actually known as the Serpent's Land. If you look carefully, you will see this is formed by what used to be the Serpent's Trench, and is actually in the shape of a serpent! Thanks for putting together this incredible compilation of information.
The only downside to the Gaia Gear strat is Edgar and Cyan can't wear Gaia Gears without Merit Awards. You gotta float them. Also there are too many Auto-Float enemies to make it useful. Once you get Fire Shields going, Mover (Meltdown) is a far better option.
Gau is a "Zangief" character. Difficult to master but in the hands of someone who knows him well he can be dangerous! The comparison arises from the fact that Zangief is a slow power character, but if he can hit you with his tiltawhirl piledriver it dies UNGODLY damage!
Had a soft spot for him. Also the first member that I taught Ultima to because I’m too stupid to remove the Paladin shield from him. Ah well, kinda funny for him to cast a powerful Ultima on things.
I always found it strange that Proto Armor appeared on the veldt , yet we never got to see it elswhere thus it doesn’t have a rage 😡 lol 🤷🏽♂️ Great video man I always wished we had information like this back in the day !
Slight correction on Behemoth King. The living version has no rage. You can't even leap on the living version in SNES as it doesn't show up. Only the Undead version has a rage (Firaga).
The Mu is actually kinda useful. Snare is an attack that causes instant death and tends to work. It's the only way to beat the Intangir without having him use meteo just before he dies. I usually use the Veil Dancer that casts Blizzara on most playthroughs. I would have ranked her higher. Entice will work on literally any enemy in the game, including Kefka. It is absolutely broken. The Sonic Boom taught by the Satellite is actually quite useful. The Tyrannosaur is literally the best rage in the game in the SNES version. He uses Meteo, which is stronger than than Meteor. Yes, Io is pronounced eye-oh. It's one of the moons of Jupiter.
I've been playing this game since shortly after it came out and didn't know about Nightshade/Rafflesia's rage being giga broken until reading the video comments. I might do a 100% rage playthrough and really focus on Gau
I'm surprised peeper isn't at least A-tier. A dedicated healer that can heal the whole party at once without spending any MP *or* using any items? One that you can set and forget?
Hes been posting on videos since I started speedrunning as well. Actually found him on a forum post 9 years ago doing some research. I'm currently catching up on the legend haha
Sweet. I get all those Internet points AND the ability to make fun of your pronunciations! Still, impressive feat. Hope this vid gets more views 'cuz you deserve them.
Education. It's what many youtubers lack. If you play the snes version and you travel over 1000k You will run into the "White Dragon" On the veldt. Jump in. Afterwards wait until you see Tri-tok. Kill it. Check your inventory. 99 of ever item ever thought of in the FF3 US version. 99 Genji Gloves, 99 AEGIS ARMOR!!! HEAD CHEST!!! I should be famous. None of you know the glory of X-boxes on every character. Check with your devs. SNES US VRS
I like stray cat because ypu get it instsntly and that early, fat scratch is strong. Not later but it does scale. Also useful to use gauntlet with, one of thr only reasons to use gauntlet over almost any other relic.
NOW I remember why I didn't bother. 90% of Gau's Rages are some variation of... Punch thing slightly harder.... Single target status ailment.... Fractional damage.... Effect if multiple of X level..... Available so late in the game you may as well just finish the game... and death variant that doesn't matter anyway since anything that would be worth using it on is probably immune. And or course the fact that magic just straight up trumps 99% of what he can get anyway.>
this could use some editing. There's some where you trip over your words and repeat yourself, and some where you don't display the image for the monster in question, but given how absurdly long this list is, mistakes are to be expected. I can't believe you actually did it. I agree with your ranking, and even learned a thing or two, which, as a veteran gamer, Is impressive. Sub earned.
About that of the 255 rages in game ALL but 3 are actually unusable the 3x Tonberries DO have a Rage since you CAN leap them on the Veldt its just that rage disappears from the rage menu for IN battle use so it can't actually be used and the Ziegfried Ultros Rages don't exist.
No need for me to beat a dead horse, but I will idly point out that in terms of strict opportunity cost vs effect, Charm (Entice) from Nightshade (Rafflesia) is probably the single most overpowered ability in the entire Final Fantasy franchise, because once it's set, you literally can't lose the fight.
I know Glasya Labolas is also a name shared with an enemy in Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin. For some reason, in that game, they're a green pitbull that spits poison bubbles.
Legit, Entice is so completely broken, that it even works on Bosses. So I think Raffelsia deserves a sliver higher ranking, just IMHO. Especially if you get Gau and Gogo both going (Gogo Mimicing it), you can completely ruin a small monster partys' day.
the rules around Drain in regards to Undead in FF VI are kinda screwy. However, general rule is, an Undead can use drain on a living target and gain HP. However if anyone, undead or not, uses drain on an Undead, the Undead you tried to drain will drain YOUR hitpoints instead of you draining theirs. Oddly enough, monsters like the Nightwalkers and Whispers and such, were supposed to be in Regen status, not Sap status, but with Nightwalkers the Sap status actually kinda makes sense because then they can drain to refill their diminishing hitpoints.
Nice Owlman it does not really matter. Cats using instant death is a DND reference, similar to the cthulu mind flyers type and the eye in Final Fantasy 1, coeurl whiskers or cats are displacer beasts in DND. I think cats having instant death started in the second final fantasy game or possibly the 4th one. I remember seeing cats ennemies in ff2 but they had a paralysis attack and if I recall correctly if it is like ff1 if everybody is paralyzed it is game over so effectively instant death. Crawler looks exactly like the ff1 enemy. I can't believe I never noticed this. Onion dasher, looks like a ff3 onion knight.
I feel Mu should at least get out of the F-tier, or at the very least on the SNES and PSX versions of the game. Reason being is the Vanish-Doom bug (Vanish makes instant death spells work even if the target would be immune) and Snare's special ability to delay the target's turn by one (meaning they don't get to use their deathcry attacks). What all of this adds up to is making the Intangir battle hilariously easy. Either Gau will do a physical attack, meaning Intangir won't wake up. Or Gau uses Snare, killing Intangir and preventing his Meteo counterattack. That's a free 10 AP with absolutely zero risk, available as soon as you get access to the airship. Sure, it's incredibly situational, but in between how easy you get it and it having an actual purpose unlike mostly everything else in F-tier, I think that should keep Mu out of the F-tier. EDIT: Oh, also, like others have already said, Rafflesia should be S-tier in terms of gamebreaking potential. EDIT 2: About Intangir: this one is actually pretty good, IF you set things up in advance. You see, Transfusion is a Blue Magic Spell, which means it will get blocked by Silence. So if you cast Silence on Gau and /then/ have him use Intangir, he'll try to cast Transfusion but fail because of the silence. You end up with a character that absorbs all elements, is immune to all status effects except Slow and Stop, has Auto-Haste, Auto-Shell, Auto-Protect and Auto-Float AND Auto-Invis. In short, the only thing that can still kill him is non-elemental magic.
About that the Rage still sucks if Transfusion is still used but you Silence Gau first then you won't get to KEEP the Elemental Absorbing the Intangir rage has so its still pure crap and with a Ribbon on Gau a MUST against Braciosaurs/Bad breath using enemies he will be immune to the Mute spell.
I'm not going to suggest it's a top tier, but I think the Mu and its Snare belong in a higher tier. Snare is a 100% accurate instadeath ability that works on anything not expressly immune to Death effects, which includes a lot of undead who would be *healed* by other Death effects. Most notably, you can use Mu to farm Intangir in WoB for 10 magic points per battle
Tank/Healer anything with White Wind, since it heals for current HP and Gau tends to have the 1st to 3rd highest HP. Learned the healing part from a mod of the game. On average White Wind > Curage at least from Gau.
saw others commenting about how broken Rafflesia is so I'll leave it alone. Also I find the defensive Rages like Magic pot more useful in WoR. Gau when he gets snow muffler or some other armor can avoid some of the weaknesses that some of these monsters give out as well when acting like them.
I am apparently going to have to look into entice from the comments on this video. Sounds it’s like worth grabbing! I do remember finding Holy Dragon as a kid on the Veldt and thought it was cool to have a dragon rage. I know it isn’t really worth it, but it just sounds cool to use. 😜 A lot of cat enemies have insta-death moves. Like most of the FF4 cat enemies do it too. I wonder why they went with that. If there’s some cultural reason. I remember using Bomb a good bit. Honestly a little surprised that isn’t one of the self destruct enemies, historically speaking. Templar was also one that I got right away. That rage is how I would solo with Gau through the Narshe Kefka minion fights. No surprise with our top tier choice. Had to be done. Well done on a successful meme completion! I imagine there was a little bit of a “rage” going through all this information. 😝
The Pixel version is really Weird even with the Infinite Loop first Ultros battle I fought at lv 40 Gau tends to actually use the rages 1 TURN AFTER you select them by then I had most of the non bosses already killed.
Wait a second. I have beaten Final Fantasy 3 (6) several times,, and I have never seen some of these momsters on the Veldt. How are you supposed to learn from them if you cant leap?
The answer is yes. And he missed the most powerful ability there is for Gau's rage attack which can be acquired from the enemy "RETAINER". Remember General Leo shock attack? That's the most powerful rage attack there is for Gau's rage ability. If i remember it correctly, the enemy RETAINER will appear on the Veldt once you've defeat it underneath Fargaro moving castle(in the world of ruin). The 'shock wave" ability is the most powerful ability doing 9999 damage to all enemies at level 80+
My method with Gau was just get the Guard rage and leave. It's decent enough and it's near the top of his list so I don't have to go searching for it. Laziness trumps optimization for me with this character every day.
ok so i played this game since its release in america. i thought you only got gau's abilities in the place you find him. watching this seems like he gets the abilities of whatever monster you fight. what m i missing?
You have been making FF6 videos since,so it makes me wondering;is FF6 the only final fantasy game you have played or have you played other final fantasy games e.g. FF5 or FF4 etc.
I bought the original on SNES and cant play it because i know in the back of my head many of the mechanics wre broken or completely missing. I play the GBA version with a music patch
something i noticed from some of these is that...despite enemies having a special ability, gau can use other moves or their magic...i used baloon rage several times and i am pretty sure i never saw him using self-destruct...instead hed used fire spells and a special move called "lamina" i think...another fire based attack
Surprised you went through all of them, although some of the opinions seem misinformed, but that's not the end of the world. Rafflesia, Guard Leader, Yojimbo, and Marchosias are the best ones to get. Guard Leader ---> Marchosias ---> Yojimbo is the standard progression through the game, you'll never use anything else. Stray cat sucks despite what all the memes say. Wind slash (from guard leader) ignores split damage, and attacks on both sides of you in a pincer attack. Also most things have wind weakness for a fair amount of the game. Give gau 2 earrings and be on your way. Marchosias is just Aero, which is basically upgraded wind slash, until eventually you get non-elemental dmg in shock. You could go w/ meteor from T-rex, but shock is way cooler so it takes the spot. Rafflesia is just the most broken in the game cause nothing can dodge it, and nothing can fight you back once you use it. You just win.
i found out first what entice works on bosses, then i found out shortly after that entice doesn't work on bosses in later versions. so altho i would def shoot it up more, maybe low A tier, it wouldn't go S tier due to version changes :)
No it sill works but it either lasts only 1 turn on Makes the Goddess boss use Cloudy Heaven on the Pixel Remaster as soon as Entice hits her screwing up her AI.
I cant believe your pronunciation of Aepyorais...so bad. I would pronounce it like Aepyorais. I am of course kidding, great list and thanks for the hard work. I appreciate the bestiary on the side.
Useless Alluring Rider info. She's riding a tapir, not a warthog-thing lol. Much like Drowzee and Hypno from Pokemon and Luna in Animal Crossing, tapirs are associated with dreams in Japan. So you see those two things pop up together all the time
I found tyranosaur to be very reliable. doing non-elemental damage to everything on the field was good. just my 0.02$ I was considerably less enthusiastic about brachiosaur... hoi....
