Hope you guys enjoyed this video! Let me know what your ranking would be. If I were to make adjustments, I'd probably move Moldorm down 1 more. Also quick correction; you can't use Pegasus Boots on the Lanmola form :)
FYI, the last Nightmare’s name is actually: DethI (capital “i” instead of lowercase “L”). This blew my mind a few years back, but it actually makes sense since it is an eye of death.
Only thing I disagree with is having the fish so high up. Even with the remake's improvements, it's still one of the most disappointing boss battles in the game imo.
The logic to kill hot head is so weird and doesn’t make sense. I was stuck for a good 5 minutes bc my brain told me that it doesn’t make sense to use the fire rod. Then i tried it anyways, then i got mad bc how stupid it is.
Well, it's magic purple fire, so there is some kind of sense there. But I had to google it, since I didn't figure it out and died over and over again... XD
Jan Ruppel it would of made some sense if it was blue fire like in OoT. Wish blue fire had more uses in that game then just the Zora king and death mountain.
The face was my favorite, and the genie a close second. They were creative and MADE SENSE. Unlike the final boss and the lava bubble. First time playing Link's Awakening.
@@Ridku13 it's better, waaaaay better. I used to call myself "not a big fan of 2D Zelda's". I didn't know what at the time but felt like something of them was lacking. I had dabbled into ALttP and Zelda 1 & 2. Zelda 2 being my fovorite of the three. Fast forward some time, I buy my Nephew a 3DS, I always wanted one myself but I already had a Switch by then, I got ALBW and finished it throughout, it was a good game and it felt just like playing ALttP, it wasn't super impressive but I would be lying if I said I didn't enjoy it, then recently Nintendo released SNES games for NSO and I decided to finally finish ALttP. It was also a decent game, I was proud of finally beating it, but still felt like something was lacking. Then finally it released, Link's Awakening remastered, I was actually hyped. I had never played a handheld Zelda title and I heard so many good things about Link's Awakening, part of me thought it was mostly a nostalgia thing, but to my surprise I see why people call this their favorite Zelda game. It's briming with charm, that's what I think A Link to the Past was missing for me. And I think this game started it all, maybe if it wasn't for this game the series would be completely different. Link's Awakening has charming quirky characters, a great story, great music, and great gameplay and dungeons. This game excels in all those aspects making it a masterpiece in my eyes. Now I would consider this specific Zelda one of my favorites, near the top of my list by the best Zelda games such a Ocarina and BotW. Yes it is that good. I hope they remaster the Oracle games next.
So the final boss wasn't creative? I know it's your opinion but if you hunted down the color dungeon, there's a slime miniboss that requires magic powder to beat. Since Nightmare's first form played out exactly like the slime, I knew that I had to use the magic powder to beat it. I am not a fan of this video. It made claims that could be refuted with a simple, "No it's not." or "I didn't feel that way." or " Actually _________". As for his ranking with the final boss, it felt forced and ham-handed. It felt like he was being unnecessarily harsh with the fight just so that he could give it a lower ranking. The same goes for his placement of Facade(which I know you disagreed about). He ranked it second to the last place because of the fact you could avoid all of his attacks in the first phase by standing in the corner. Which is a strat HE chose to partake in. If it ruined the fight, that's your fault. Not the boss.
The fire rod is actually a magic rod that just happens to light things on fire with its intense energy. It's the only thing powerful enough that link has to penetrate fire. So it makes sense.
I just had a thought. You know how there was the happy mask shop in ocarina that was remade in majora's mask . What is kiltons shop plays a bigger role in BOTW 2
S-Master Gaming unlikely but it could be a good side quest where he becomes “king” of the monsters or falls in love with a nice one preferably a Lynel.
@@GODOFAWSOMENESS1 OK maybe not a Lynel. Maybe a Lyzalfos sends him love letters but secretly wants to eat him, as a neat little reference to Wind Waker with the person in love with the Moblin.
@@copperfish8816 monsters can turn into humans as proven in skyward sword and humans have turned into monsters and back again in a link to the past so we could turn another monster into a human. Continuing the Lizalfos quest idea you had what if the person receiving the letters falls in love with the monster then we change the monster into a human so their love won’t be frowned upon but the human doesn’t believe they are the Lizalfos and we have to help the Lizalfos convince the human so they can be happy together.
@@GODOFAWSOMENESS1 Seems legit actually. Better than my idea actually. But maybe we could use a new character INSTEAD of Kilton for the sake of, well, everything.
If you played/beat the original Gameboy/Gameboy Color version, then yes it’s a bit overpriced. But, if you’re new to the game/never played it before, price seems fair.
While Dethl was the only boss to come close to a challenge, I've always thought that the Nightmares in Link's Awakening were never meant to be that difficult; the real challenges of Link's Awakening came in the form of its puzzles and finding its secrets. That being said, I liked Dethl the most, and honestly I liked how cryptic the fight was. I'm glad that a boss didn't spell out for me what needed to be done in order to defeat it; I liked experimenting to find out what could damage it in a particular form. I'm looking forward to finding out how much more difficult (or not) the Nightmares will be in Hero mode.
2:06 - *It’s a dream, of course it doesn’t make sense!* I had a dream where I was walking dinosaurs with a lead last night, does that make sense? Nope!
It was easily my favorite Gameboy game. Of the 5 I owned. I enjoyed the story, trading and fetch quests, and the gameplay didn't go chasing after the "needs more challenge" niche that seem to grow up into RU-vidrs. But the ending theme really blew me away at the time. Obviously there have been better since, but it conveyed a lot of emotion within its limited capabilities. And then, once I got bored 100%ing it for the umpteenth time, I learned the screenwrap glitch and got to explore the fever dream that was the interconnected map of all non-overworld locations and how badly the maps broke down. I spent so many hours swimming through walls and finding ways around the mess.
I think the challenge in the game came from puzzles and actually trying to figure out what to do next. I had to use a guide on so many parts because it was very confusing so I think the bosses were just supposed to be light and fun after all the puzzles
The hint for Genie was actually necessary, according to the past versions. Players were confused as to what you had to do when he went back into the bottle, so they added another hint in the DX version. Still confused as to what to do in that version (and probably due to the attention span of most kids these days), they had to make it clear as day in the Switch remake.
The Link's Awakening bosses are actually very memorable to me, but that is likely because it is my first Zelda game, and I actually haven't played many Zelda games (only played three, and only completed two - yeah, I know, I know...) The only boss in Link's Awakening I forgot was Blaino (who is a mini boss) - I was trying to remember what boss and mini boss was in each dungeon to see if any inspired me for a project, and my mind went blank when I got to Turtle Rock in regards to the mini boss.
I love Link’s Awakening! The original was my first Zelda game and is still my favorite game ever. I bought a Switch just to play the remake and I love that one as well
Here is my ranking of the nightmares that I fought SO FAIR 5: Slime Eye ( to easy) 4: Genie ( way to hard for a second boss) 3: Moldorm ( probably a good first boss but still easy) 2 Slime eel ( good but It was short) 1: Angler Fish ( this boss got a massive improvement and takes long and it has good attacks) So what did of my list
i find it funny how nearly every time i hear someone talking about a boss's only weakness being an attack the boss does people always say " just don't do it" like, they are trying to kill you man. if you only had one weapon to fight with but using that weapon made you vulnerable to the person you wanna kill how else are you gonna kill them?
Apparently, in a Link to the Past, if you fought Ganon with the normal level 1 master sword, only a spin attack would damage him. I got this from Zeltik's "Which Gannondorf is the Strongest" video; I've never personally tested it.
Yessss. The final boss is way too cryptic. I played Link's Awakening for the first time about a year ago with the remake and I spent like 30 minutes to an hour fighting this boss several times because I couldn't figure out what to do in half of his phases
Somehow I lucked out against the Slime Eel and never pulled out a decoy. I didn't even know that there WAS a decoy. The one that I actually struggled with the most was actually a mini-boss. The Grim Creeper actually made me rage quit a few times.
in the original version the fire was ridiciously hard to dodge (only after the bottle breaks) and he doesn't give you the hint you just had to throw the bottle, and you had to hit specifically the back wall
Regarding the Final Nightmare, there is one legit reason why Magic Powder works... That being that it's a Slime. A normal sword swing on Nightmare Ganon wouldn't damage it for one simple reason, it's too weak. A Dashing Thrust or a Spin Attack in many instances deals a stronger attack.
On the subject of the Ganon phase, I'd guess its immunity to normal sword slashes but not to spin attacks is because in A Link To The Past, unless you had at least tempered the sword (taking to it Level 3, effectively), Ganon was... immune to normal sword slashes but not spin attacks. And in Link's Awakening... your sword only goes up to Level 2. Rather clever, actually.
Since Link is in some kind of coma, during the fight against all those nightmares, it's possible that they also take the form of something he himself is afraid of too. So having at least one boss from A Link to the Past, is even a good thing. It shows us the connection between the two games and makes it even clearer, that this is the same itteration of Link.
For me, I was able to figure out the weird slime looking boss fight where you use magic powder, without looking it up online (like I had to do with Ganon). I don't remember if I only used magic powder because nothing else worked (process of elimination), but I do remember that it didn't seem too far-fetched to me. The reason was that it reminded me of the slime enemies that you use magic powder on to de-electrify them. I don't know if that's a logical conclusion or just something that made sense only to me, though.
I actually really love Facade, and all because of the concept: a sentient floor with a freaky face. To me, it sounds like this guy is the Wind Fish's anxiety-driven nightmare after hours of Earthbound. The fight would've been more creepy if the holes were round, not squares, but that's just me. Sure it could've been harder, but this game is perfect to introduce new fans to the series because of its low difficulty, something which the remake enhanced, a good example being Facade himself, being now able to summon more than just one hole at a time. Also this boss music is amazing
I haven't finished the remake just yet (currently in the face shrine) but I've played Link's Awakening before and always enjoyed the final boss. Most of the fights I've breezed through, but Genie has been the longest and most difficult fight out of all the ones so far. I am curious how the mini boss fights would be ranked, as most of them were more difficult than the actual bosses.
The bosses are not really the Nightmares, the Nightmares are all one thing, Shadow Nightmare. This thing is born from Nightmares and one day entered the Dream. It refers to itself as "we". Then, infected the dream world with awarness and those infected fought to maintain their existence for eternity. They are the bosses and the monsters they sway.
Angler Fish...where you get a double attack bonus right before you enter the boss room and defeat him in less than 1 minute... Yeah, I was that lucky 😅
I agree with enough of this that I don't know if it's worth saying which of the bottom few I'd switch up, I will say this though, if Hot Head was a mini boss and we got to fight a more powerful version of that entrance turtle that would have been sweet.
10. Moldrorm 9. Anglerfish 8. Evil Eagle 7. Facade 6. Genie 5. Slime Eye 4. Hard hit Beetle (It’s not in this list tho) 3. Hothead 2. Slime Eel 1. Dethl
About the names sounding stupid: what if it was link that named them? Sounds very much like what a kid would do, coming up with simple or silly names in an effort to feel less scared or the monsters themselves not seem so scary. Kinda like how the big scary Imprisoned got compared to an avocado, and now that image is in your head and you cannot take it seriously anymore.
Okay, some thoughts from the me-space: Hot Head may not be well-named or particularly nuanced, but since Turtle Rock is the biggest, the longest, and the most-mini-bossed dungeon out of the game, I wouldd think you'd want to be DONE with it. At least they made Facade a bit more challenging. People who say the Eagle Tower boss battle should reset are wrong and hate fun. The spikes as consequence are a much better idea. You are pretty much spot-on about Moldorm and Slime Eye. Thing about the Genie, though, is that they started hitting you over the head with his weakness once you reach the DX version of the game. Nothing to say about Slime Eel except they could've named him better when we already have Slime Eye Also, Evil Eagle? It's the mighty stead of the Grim Creeper. 'Grim Eagle' was right there! As for the final battle, I *personally* had the benefit of Game Player Magazine, back in the day, for some of Link's awakening. My editions had the final boss strats, and a full map of Turtle Rock. That said, it's not 100% certain what you're suppose to do because the boss is a shadowy nightmare, so a little trial-and-error is needed. I WILL say that magic powder DOES work on slimes, though, and it makes some sense that Ganon would need your heaviest attacks. Maybe you're saying that's irritating and might make it impossible to beat the final boss if you can't figure that stuff out. EXCEPT...that you can escape any dungeon, any fight, restock your hearts, and go back, thanks to the Ocarina. I do object to the nerfing, though. Some of this was done well in Gameboy, and made a bit easy. Well...calling myself Link will increase the difficulty, so there's that.
You can defeat the first phase of the final boss (at least in the original colorless version) with the sword. When I was a kid I never used the powder and kept slashing and slashing, eventually he dies but like after a reaaaaally long time XD
honestly, the dethl fight didn't bug me that much, even as a first time player. when my sword didn't work, i just started throwing a bunch of crap at him to see what worked. bombs? no. bow? no. hookshot? no. ocarina (all songs)? no. fire rod? no. pegasus boots? no. magic powder? yes. ok, let's stick with that.
*Slime Eel:* I don't know if they changed it in the re-make, but, in the GB version, you could tell if it was the REAL head when the tail is pointing to the OPPOSITE side from where the head is.
I feel like Slime Eel was the only Nightmare that didn't try to make the fight as easy as possible so it would be put out of its misery faster. Like it actually wanted to live
I am also new to the Zelda series. My brother got Ocarina of Time when I was like seven. It was to hard for me. Anyhoo, I got Botw for Christmas 2018 and started playing it. I think overall the start to Botw is a little more creative than Link's Awakening. Want to start playing A Link To The Past. It looks really fun. My favorite Zelda game is Battlen Quest. It's on Nintendo Land. Does anybody else know SouthgAte Quest?
The shadow nightmare is not called DEATHL. It's DeathI. Can't tell the difference? Well let me type it out unconstrained by the limits of Gameboy text box limits. It's Death EYE.
Honestly my favourite boss is dethl, just because of all his unique attacks and phases. 2nd would probably go to the evil Eagle and 3rd to the slime eel
Slime eel is easy and fun i agree just stay in a corner while running around and then when the real one pops out just catch him and hit him and then you can hit the head if you already hit the pinky thing
A lot of people have an issue with using the Fire Rod to fight Hot Head...but ive always thought of it as an intentional joke. U know, fight fire with fire.
Super late and probably missed the comment, but the fire rod against hothead kinda makes sense if only cos the old saying "fight fire with fire." Right? Idk Nintendo is pretty funny like that too... But idk..
I don't know why people crap on the last boss. I played this game when I was 10 and figuring out how to beat it with all the crap ton of items you collected was fun. It's like people can't handle the 'use item on boss' mechanic unless they just have to use the item found in the dungeon, which requires little thinking.
Oh boy do I have to disagree on the first two entries. The fish is just frustrating, as you‘re getting constantly hit because of you having a huge hitbox that even extends over your sword, while fish have a small hitbox, but a huge damaging box. The falling stones are very similar to that. And the eel... you can just stand on the left or right wall and just kinda sit there, it will never reach you. No movement involved, it‘s IMO easier than Hot Head.
In fairness to some of the weaker LA bosses, I think they're cute little puzzle bosses that are more fun when it's the very first time you've ever tried to fight them! That waaaaas when I was 5 years old playing the original though...
you know what I'm realizing Nintendo black crisis the 47 dislike comets it's always 47 well at least most of of I'm not saying this is bad for you I absolutely love every one of your videos that was just something I realized and I'm super disappointed about that those people that push dislike to be ashamed!
