I saw a comment saying that you guys should downplay the sound level reading part. I couldn’t disagree more. I solely come here to watch that section and you guys are probably the only ones with a dedicated section on that. So please keep it up!!
End of the day it is all about reliability, reasonable luxury, and worst case in difficult circumstances the resale value!!!! This one ticks all boxes for me.
Its nice on the exterior, but Its not worth $80k for that interior. The interior looks like something out of 2017! Also 17mpg combined isnt great! Hell some tahoes get 20. This is an overpriced toyota land cruiser!
true on the Tahoe getting 20 plus, my son ownes one and has gotten as much as 25 MPG on the highway but he has made a few trips back to the dealer for repairs.. Tranny, injectors and some drive train issues along with some interior rattles and a minor electrical issue. Good thing it’s still under warranty, and of course he maybe purchased a Friday build vehicle. I told him to seriously think about dumping it about the time his warranty is up. So I’m thinking with the Lexus vehicle you’re also paying for some reliability which to me means a lot. Everybody has to make their own choice.
Gas mileage wise, you are comparing a non full time 4wd to a full time 4wd system, which probably has the biggest influence. From a reliability standpoint I would take the GX over the Tahoe any day of the week. We got a chance to drive a new GX today, the interior was very nice.
I sat in a 2023 platinum at the dealership for all new redesigned sequoia, and the interior was ply and cheap looking. The Lexus is incredible compared to it.
The more I look at GX550 reviews, the more disappointed I become with the GX. For this price, this vehicle is severely lacking in luxury as a Luxury Plus trim. I will test drive and see for myself but it's hard to be impressed with the lack of luxury in the cabin.
I love the panoramic roof but the mpg is dismal. When is the Whole Foods and Costco powertrain ala hybrid coming? Will it be the TX plugin hybrid one too? I’m hoping for the plugin as I don’t need the twin turbo v6; good to offer different powertrains for different people. 90% of the use cases will be fine with the TX hybrid engine.
I gotta see it in person. Too much Land Rover envy in the design, but I still need to see it. No matter what though, it will sell like hotcakes. While waiting for service one of the salesmen at my dealer said they have 100 people on the list so far. If every dealer has that or more.........BOOM. They have a major hit.
I feel the next generation 4runner is going to be similar to this. Just cheaper. And while Lexus is supposed to be the luxury end of toyota, I do feel 84k is overpriced for compared to what the Hyundai 2024 Santa fe did with just 38k. They made it look like a 80-100k luxury car interior. They're getting too comfortable. and for those that say "lexus doesn't depreciate as much" please. Might not much but please do the math. 30% in 5 years. vs 50% with a 38k car would be 25k loss vs 19k loss with the cheaper vehicle. Not considering the MPG. And most people don't even go off road with an 84k car. I'll use my old truck.
Why would a car company not make something that - is a comfortable ride like a benz - looks like this lexux gx 550 - has panoramic moonroof - fast enough that it can do 0-60 in ~5 seconds (6-cyl engine, with 350-400hp and 400-500 torque) but not porsche fast - nice speaker system (20 speakers) - not a crazy price of ~$100k ideally, it's hybrid without that jolt of shifting between the two powertrains (again like a BMW X50e)
It's really bland, dull for a luxury vehicle interior, like the exterior look, and on the overtrail plus they dont have the AC controls in the back nor use leather.. also with luxury you have to get 22's which ride very poorly. What was lexus thinking in spec-in this rig. ... at $64k same interior look as $80k+ and for $80k plus you should give the consumer all the opulence... its got a Toyota level looking interior and limited in interior color options with ugly two tone seats as an option. I have been waiting for this new model and overall I'm a bit disappojnted .. I'm an Avalon owner, was looking to upgrade, not sure this is truly an upgrade. I heard there is a lot of noise at highway speed as well, they may not have used acoustic glass on the door windows or the windshield which would be a big fail... Hyundai at half the price, genesis, do a better job for less... wow... I'm a huge Toyota and lexus fan, however, damn lexus, make this worth the price tag, 99% of buyers willing to buy at $80+k, me included, expect more, nobody is spending that much money and living off road ... there is no reason why you can't make the inside luxurious for the bigger end buyers... and put 18's on it with larger tires for a better ride, 22's flat out suck for ride quality.. wtf. The lexus ls sedan starts in the low $80's and the seats and interior is very nice, much nicer than this gx.
Thinking about replacing my Palisade right now. I’ve tested an infinity and Honda but haven’t found anything that I like more than the Palisade, so I’ll probably get a new one
What are your thoughts on overall ride quality on paved roads when comparing the OT+ and Luxury? Also, any thoughts on overall value between these two being the same MSRP?
Honestly, for 84k I'd take a loaded tahoe or yukon or telluride or Palisade over that, interior is yuck, not luxury, and priced like bigger cars....this s no different than the land cruiser imo.
Hits and Misses Hits: -Great looking exterior, especially hood and grill (extra mean!) -Great visibility with the low dashboard and window belt line. -Physical buttons present, rather than capacitive. Large panoramic sunroof -Massage function (possibly worthwhile?). -Drop down running boards are nice. -All the damn speakers! (hopefully create and awesome sound experience) Misses: -Mpg is absolutely terrible and I doubt the hybrid will be a significant improvement. -The addition of rear seats is dumb if it's going to be that uncomfortable to get to or sit in and especially if it means sacrificing 98% of storage space and prevents the middle seats from optional adjustment. -Panoramic sunroof is cool but should retract. -Rear wiper should've been tucked into the top of the window. -The voice assistant seems painfully slow (not shown here). -Considering none of the trims have air suspension I think all models should have the KDSS Suspension system. -Cool box too small to be more useful than extra space. -Massage functionally should be included in the rear row given the coat of the luxury model. -Fake engine noises are always lame. A lot of (mostly small) complaints but if the hybrid version addresses the poor MPG I may actually consider. Any additional fixes would be great but that's my main issue.
Love the exterior. The interior looks so cheap though. Just like the TX. That's what's making me look elsewhere like the Genesis GV80. Night and day as far as luxurious interior.
I swear! I have been in the comments of multiple GX reviews and those screaming $84K WTF are obviously not looking at the fact that it starts at $64k. Then they have NO IDEA what other luxury line 7 seater SUV's cost.
Wanted to comment on the ride quality since getting to drive one (well ride in one, wife drove) today. It was a premium without the adaptive suspension. It rode firmer and more truck like than I was expecting. I was okay with that, but my wife complained about that a bit (was probably her biggest nit pick on it). For comparison, I drive a 2023 F150 Platinum Powerboost FX4, which rides a lot smoother and less truck like. So that did surprise me. Would have been nice to drive an Overtrail, wondering if the adaptive suspension + additional sidewall would soften it up a bit. But will say I quite enjoyed it, seemed to have plenty of power, quiet enough to still be a Lexus, interior was muted but solid feeling.
The cool box is a no-brainer if you live in a hot climate. All these Toyota/Nissan SUVs come with a cool box as standard in Dubai and even the GM SUVs offer that as standard
I like the outside a lot. I’m disappointed with the inside. When I hear the word luxury. I expect the inside to mirror image that. It’s so plain on the inside. I really wish they would have pulled the leather seat colors into the dashboard. The fuel is low. I’m going between this or a BMW X5
If you want on road comfort and luxury primarily, the BMW will be the better choice. But if you want the extra off-road abilities, the GX is definitely the winner
No night drive? I wouldn't consider this a Full Review. A full Review must involve the operation of the vehicle at night as well. We don't drive cars just in daylight.
Great review. A few suggestions.1. Consider downplaying the exclusive sound test, others do it as well. As your channel is maturing now your other works speaks for itself. 2. Measure the width distance between the wheels inside the trunk as that typically dictates how wide an item can be. 3. A few key summary graphics/ stats could elevate your reviews. Keep up the good work!
Absolutely disagree on your sound level testing comment. They are probably the only ones who have a dedicated section on that. And sorry if it surprises you but most of the times i fast forward to their Sound Level Reading section only.
One of my big gripes for the grand Highlander as well. Really, only the over trail needs scratch resistant and trail, ready fender, flares/bumpers, etc.
Depending on a 2/3 row configuration, the GX is smaller in some measure and larger than the LX in others! We would suggest you look at the exact version you’d want to see how the numbers stack up
So with these new integrated controls on the screen, will I still be able to use my climate or any other functions if the screen fails in 10-12 years? Will there be replacement parts in 12 years or will Lexus tell me the system is obsolete even though the vehicle is still functional?
@@hotdeals7517 Well yes, more power the vehicle also weighs about 1000 pounds more than a GX from the ew specs I’ve seen as to more space that depends on the individual I’m just a single 63-year-old guy with one son I don’t need space and as for looks, that is in the eyes of beholder. I think the new GX looks really great for being more serious off road suv than a Infiniti Q80 will ever be
