About: Techtonica

I feel this game's core mechanics, setting, and story is really cool. It needs a lot of polishing and updates and it needs to be better optimized but I really like it so far.

Pretty cool, I'm really satisfied with it so far; definitely have been waiting for a game like this. I especially love that they used the inserters from Factorio. Not to mention the diggable terrain... pretty nice differentiating factor. I know I won't be popular by saying this, but I already like the gameplay 'loop' better than in Satisfactory

I played the demo, or a free weekend, or something like that a while back. I enjoyed it, but like you said, there were quite a few quality of life improvements that were needed. It was in a state that I didn't fully enjoy playing, but everything that pushed me away is almost to be expected in a game this early in development.

I enjoy this quite a bit and had been waiting for the Early Access. But as Exclipse and others have pointed out, there are a few needed improvements. Namely...How can you delete an inventory item. If this is in the game I haven't found it with almost 30 hours (between demo and ER). But it is fun, and I wish more games like this would allow you to terraform. 7/10. but remember EARLY ACCESS!

I'll be picking this one up. I know it's early, and it might seem like a risky investment, but I feel like I've had pretty good past history with early access games. I have yet to find an early access game that I've paid for that didn't end up getting me my money's worth. If it can give the studio a boost to help them continue development, it's worth it. Even if there is a lemon here and there, I've found that more often than not, they all turn out well and were worth the money. I can understand why people are wary of getting involved this early on, but I think it's worth it.

pro tip for people is something I didnt realise until mid game is that the ores are limited(there is an infinite loop for crafting floors and conveyors and scrapping them to get around this if you want) and the drills do extend as you dig so the drills dont have to be placed right against ore to mine it, they will extend out to it.

I saw it added to game pass and I cant put it down. its full of bugs but they are very active on discord and they are also doing what coffee stain does and giving us update videos for issues we've brought up and addressing needed changes moving forward. if you are playing this being in the discord is a must. I feind that the conveyors can be buggy af, but with all the bugs and crashes its still been a good time.

At the same (non sale) price as Satisfactory they're setting the bar quite high. It's a no from me, for now. I may pick it up at a bigger discount later as I have enough games with conveyors etc. right now! Cheers for the review, I'll keep my eye on it. Q. should early access games start low and increase price over time nearer to release?

I think they should increase their price over time. Certainly given inflation I can see satisfactory and tectonica rising by 30% after 1.0 if making comparisons to triple a game pricing

1st thing 1st,lets be honest here.. it will be heavily compared to Satisfactory, if the price is similarly priced or.. even better, Cheaper than Satisfactory, then YES.. auto buy for me.. co-op is a big plus to buying decision also..

If i had to buy it i wouldn't because i am a bit done with Early Acces, Don't like the design/setting and Satisfactory looked better (at EA release). But it is on Gamepass so maybe i will try it there.

Buy it? Not until it's much further in development. Play it on game pass? Yeah I'll give it a shot. Have to say i'm concerned that it's going to get boring fast with no combat and only 4 mineable resources though.

My issue with Techtonica is that I don't know why I would play it above Satisfactory. I feel that it needs to work on it's unique selling point, and am worried it doesn't really have a compelling one. I also worry that this concern is isn't an early access problem but a permanent one as I see nothing significant in the roadmap.

so far i am enjoying the game, its unique, the stats thing is driving me mad as i find myself constantly thinking how many of these do i need? i find thd the crank generators to be far more annoying than biomass...... 5mins is too short, that needs to be increased to 20mins i think. i cant get anything done without huffing my way back to the crank. overall a great game!

I downloaded it to xbox but the screen is messed up, like a fish eye view.. and there is no Pov Slider (like in the PC version)..

@@TotalXclipse Sadly not, there are only 4 slider - gamma, screen size X, screen size y and resolution scale. The other settings in video are just for textur quality, bloom, light quality and so on.

@@edendyson8391 what language do you use? I play with German setting. I fixed this problem with a small workaround. The settings are off in many languages and everything is set to 1000% instead of 100%. Change the setting of your console to English and US country and restart your console. Start the game, set it to English and Press "Y - restore default" in the game settings. Every slider should now be 100% and the issue solved. Now you can change your console and game back to your language. The Developer already released a Patch for Steam and hopefully soon for console too.

I played for 50 hours or so and have tons of resources, and done most missions. The research cores are weird and I move them a lot to out of the way areas. It is too dim and not bright enough if it had vibrant colors like astroneer it would be better. it is free on gamepass so it is worth a play.

I would not necessarily compare it with Factorio and Satisfactory, everyone seems to just jump to these comparisons first but there is a much more similar game out there. This game feels very much like a spiritual successor to FortressCraft Evolved for me, in both looks and feel, but it seems FortressCraft Evolved is so unknown that most did not know about the similarity. Fun fact: FortressCraft Evolved was a factory game even before Factorio was a thing. It was rather influenced by the early modded Minecraft community, mods (Buildcraft, IC2, etc) and modpacks (Tekkit & FTB)

@@ImUkoo Sure, you can compare it with many factory games. I just meant that most comparisons I saw immediately jumped to Factorio and Satifactory, as if they are the closest match to Techtonica. I understand that is the case because those are the most known and played games in the "factory-game" genre, but I wanted to point out that for people that know FortressCraft Evolved, this is a much closer match.

DAMN! How have I never heard of fortress craft! It looks super super sick. It actually reminds me of my days in middle school playing the Tekkit Minecraft mod lmao the roots of a factory game player were always in me

I've never played fortress craft evolved.. so how would I know any differently? And if I've never heard of it, I'm sure many of my viewers haven't. So comparing it to two factory games a lot of people know (and given I've spoken directly to the Devs and they've talked about games that inspired them) I think it's a fair point I made - rather than being about the money.

Very concerned about picking this up anytime soon. They had an "early access demo" a while back and it felt pretty rough to say the least. Now here we are and it's Early Access release with ~4 ores available currently it seems? I'm guessing you can exhaust the available content within a few hours or a day at most and be left waiting months if not years for enough content to really sink a long weekend or two into (or more).

@@TotalXclipse That's good to hear I suppose? Though there is another Satisfactory RU-vidr who has like 500 hours into a single game... which let's be honest is WAY WAY beyond realistic for normal players. That said, super excited that we might have another factory game!

@@pxprimary3790 Abnormal? Me? well, maybe, but not for this reason. I have 742hrs in a Satisfactory game, 400+ in subnautica, 300 in below zero, 560 in Astroneer, 270 in Planet Crafter, 200 in Astro Colony, 300 in Raft and 430 in SoTF - you get the idea, I don't like starting from scratch. Not sure whether that means this will good/bad game for me but I'll put a few more hours into Satisfactory before I take a look at this one.

I encountered enough quality of life issues and progress halting bugs that I would tell most people to wait until closer to actual release. (progress halting bug - my planters won't accept seeds)

Yeee, The price on this game is pretty high for what it offers and well being in Early access too. Like it would be far more understanding down the road of updates (and we have no idea how long that'll take) but at the time, It doesn't seem like a selling point to me at least when you have these other games around the same price that offer far more and well with the Demo being what it was, Doesn't help anymore with trying to sell it right now. It is on Gamepass non the less to try at least. Factorio seems like a better option right now until this game gets some updates.

Factorio is £30, techtonica with the sale on £21.50? Sure you're investing in an early access game but compared to most recent releases costing £45+ I think they've got the price right. I wouldn't be surprised if prices increase when it's fully released and keeping up with inflation. But yes gamepass day one helps

I dislike infinite nodes, so it's cool that the game doesn't have it. Every node I encounter I feel like i need to utilize and sometimes that node is in my way of factory, resulting in an ugly connection that will never go away. What I'd appreciate is that nodes last for a while in early game and late game, I wouldn't want my main mission to find more nodes to harvest.

Well, i watch lots of content creator who played tectonica recently, and i dont feel it's a "mass production factory game" as such as Satisfactory. And the best game of this genre have finite ressources nodes as Factorio or DSP.

probably gonna pirate it till 1.0... got burned by Subnautica: Below Zero, bought it early access, but the game turned out at the last few updates quite unpleasant, couldn't refund it anymore... hopefully it won't come with much protection.. as I wanted to try out Stranded: Alien Dawn before buying it, but that drm protection it had, made pirate version impossible... unfortunately, had to spend like 10 hours till I realized, that game is just not fun and riddled with a lot of inconvenient features (build menu management, combat ai) that's just makes my skin crawl... so... piracy is a necessity... if the game turns out to be good and keeps that way, gonna buy it sure... I did the same with Satisfactory too... I actually own that game twice now (and with 1100+ hours on steam).

Piracy is not a necessity. The game is free on game pass. And pirating hurts the game industry on the whole including us gamers. If you're willing to spend 10 hours working out how to get it to work, find a way to make some extra cash in those ten hours and buy the game.

I absolute hate the way the research cores work in the game. I'm having a blast so far but the core system is easily one of the most stupid things I have seen in a game like this. With shapable terrain and everything having moving parts you have to only have things on screen that you need. The cores being physical is absolutely a stupid game design choice. I hope they remove this as its actually got a lot of potential. At the moment you have to create vast towers of pointless but necessary stuff and hide it in a cave that you will never visit. I just don't get why they thought that this would be a good idea.... hopefully they see that it's ridiculous and sort it out. Other than that and obvious teething issues it's shaping up to be a fun game.

I played for a few hours and... not again. Its confusing, controls too bad, quality of life not present, objectives mixed, exploration painfull,construction strange...not for me

Do not buy this game while it's in early access. There is a game breaking bug that happens after you acquire the M.O.L.E. your game will enter an infinite load screen. At times, your actions button (select) will stop working, the Monorail system doesn't work, you will fall through the map at times, and much more. Play it on game pass, but don't buy the game outright Wait until it's is fully released. If you place the MOLE into a storage container before saving/quitting, you will be able to load in, but if you ever forget - kiss your save goodbye.

The game would be interesting, but the visuals and graphics are terrible. Too much of everything. When everything is highlighted, you can't see anything at all.

I think the game is really fairly priced compared to other factory games and also bearing in mind a lot of studios have upped prices to keep up with inflation. Id definitely grab it whilst it's still on sale
