I have to buy online be cause there ia no violin shop or maker on my location, and if I'm going to the nearest city, only few violins we can find made in Chinese factory. It hard for me to find the good one and the good price for me😅. Even when my sound post collapse, I can't find any luthier or violin workshop here, so finally I but the tool online and learn from you to fix it. 😁

Really good video. Can I tell a story. Well I don't have much money but I did find a violin online which was made in 1924 . I bought on e bay but I contacted tge seller and spoke to her it was her grandmother's and was stored in the attic for 80 years in its case . Pictures looked good so I bought for £50.00 . I did research on the maker supplier who were Rushworth &Dreaper of Liverpool. I found an old catalogue of there's from 1925 and found the model of my violin it's an Apollo ,and ifoind that they imported violins from Germany and France it cost £18.00 in 1924 which is about £900.00 today . Well I bought it and it is in good condition. I cleaned it and I fitted a temp adjustable bridge all the dimensions seemed correct . It's sounds nice . The only thing is I think the sound post top Is maybe to far from the bridge . I set bridge at 35.5 cm from the nut ,I fitted a new tailpiece and chin and new strings ,the soundpost has been in place a long time I'm very nervous to move the soundpost .there are no cracks at all but I'm.scared to mess around with the post . I really like your videos I learned a.lot from you. It's got me playing again and I'm really pleased and enjoying playing . The sound post looks like it's 5mm from the bridge foot .I feel it may not be as good as it could be . Wondered if you could advise me please . It sound is nice I think its french , I've found Rushworth imported from workshop in mirecourt and mittenwald .

My answer is, it depends. For student and intermediate instruments, I really believe it's important to support local/domestic makers. There are some really amazing and talented folk out there who dont have a huge profile. I'm not knocking social media at all. I have always been a supporter of local artisans. Quality of course is the most important deciding factor regardless of price point. Best of all, you can play and experience the instrument. That being said, I can absolutely understand why some people may feel it necessary to purchase online. There are excellent makers out there with exceptional reputations. You need to do your research. Ask for multiple references. Don't just assume that a big online presence indicates quality. Look, guitarists love Martin but it's important to remember that Martin HAS produced garbage. We need not remember their em-18. Name means a lot but its not everything.

Can I go visit you without buying an instrument? My son is starting to learn violin and he is still too young for a high level violin now, but we do plan to give him it after some years.

Yep, sent you an email and you responded ONCE - no follow up answers, so I spent quite a bit $ with another overseas maker who showed genuine interest. Very happy with my purchase,- too bed for you.

I would never buy a Cello online ( if possible) . The people buying a $30,000 cello have the ability for a plane ticket to a visit a luthier . I will lose no sleep worrying about them . I know that in my instrument catagory you can usually trust large online music dealers, basses i have bought have consistancy from instrument to instrument that you can trust😅

I bought mine in a pawn shop. The old saying here is” Anton Breton, 10000 pawn shop can,t be wrong”_ It,s not a violin, it,s a fiddle and it sounds like one.
