I am watching series 2 from this set right now and it is amazing. Lovely picture and you can tell Una and Jon had the time of their lives filming it. Such a great show that makes you laugh and smile. Aah, nostalgia! I hope Down Under comes to Blu Ray too at some point as I am such a completist!

Always been a massive Worzel fan (I was even impressed with the reboot series recently). I'm now onto series 4 of this bluray set & must say it's absolutely beautiful. The clean up is outstanding. (Series 3 had a few problems with the original tapes I believe, so is slightly darker). This set is definitely better quality than the previous dvd releases as those quite often 'froze' when playing.

Picked it up. I'm a big fan of seeing everything as it should (And Worzel) however a large number of kids shows of the era were shot on 16mm that had Blu releases (Worzel, Terrahawks, Star Fleet) and whilst they have all been DNR'd on Blu - they've never looked better.

Mine is coming tomorrow...can't wait! The bonus features were the main draw for me though.... or rather, the isolated score option!! I adore the score and themes to this series and have for years, had to strain to enjoy them underneath the dialogue and background noise... to have clean, clear versions of these fantastic tracks is a dream come true! Knowing my luck though, the episodes with the music I adore the most will not be one of the sacred chosen number selected!

Great to hear you are excited about receiving it! I think the isolated score / sound effects may have come from foreign versions where they would ship them over without the english language tracks so that those countries could dub them into their own languages. I hope the episodes you are looking forward to are the ones that have that option included!

It was noted that they also found the original audio masters, so I assume thats where these dialogue versions have come from

@Retro Reels The carefree disregard for those old master tapes of classic TV shows was rife back in the day, clearly!! I know they didn't have any clue as to the invention of video recorders, DVDs etc... and obviously believed after one transmission they'd never be seen again... but its staggering how eagerly they slung stuff away (Doctor Who and Steptoe and Son being the most egregiously unforgiveable).

@@rnw2739 I think this shows the big advantage of a series being made on film, where a high definition transfer can be made. Theoretically this should look better than anyone has ever seen it before. It's a shame a lot of classic TV only existed on videotape, though that's obviously preferable to not existing anymore.

I think that is a wise move, although just keep in mind that depending on how many of these have been produced, the price could go up or down over time.

A lot of it looked quite stunning but in some scenes the resolution seems to drop which must have been inherent in the original footage ?

I havent noticed that personally, but its quite possible it may be from a reel change where one reel was in worse condition than the other.

To be honest my opinion on it is changing now, the sound was superb but the picture especially that opening shot in the credits looks unnaturally clean and it’s 50fps? Shouldn’t it be 24?

Certainly is expensive and I am asking myself if it is really worth the upgrade from my original DVDs... My DVD set is not as bad as they like to show in the comparison shots, and I am thinking will the blu-ray price reduce over time or increase? This will depend on its popularity on this first release of the Blu-ray and how many they produce, it could well go up in price and be a collectible blu-ray... Hmm! I am a fan of this, but if it was Catweazle I would not have hesitated and bought a copy by now... It is a tough one to call and depends on how big a fan you are, I may wait for a secondhand copy... Good video well made...

Who knows - like you say the price could go either way. I had a look again at the previous DVD set and in some shots it is apparent that there is alot more fine detail than the Blu. Glad you found my video informative and useful.

How does the DVD restored edition of the Xmas special look compared to the one on the bluray version. Is there minimal improvement in overall picture quality. Thank you! 😊👍

I can confirn that the Blu Ray version is far superior to the previous releases, plus the original commercial break bumpers have been reinstated aa well as the original opening Southern Television ident.

Random question but have they kept the Southern TV ident at the start of each episode?

The answer to this question is both yes and no. When selecting "Play All" the idents are not included. When selecting each episode seperately you are presented with a choice of playing the episode with or without the original Southern ident.

I've never liked it when companies use the same artwork on each disc of a multi-disc set. Just screams of cheapness and laziness. The Doctor Who Collection sets are the proper way to do it. Thanks for the informative vid.

Great boxset but I hate DNR due to removing fine grain ..I might pass 🤭 BTW Can you tell what disc the bonus features are on😀

I wouldn’t let it put you off of buying it because of the DNR, although annoying it’s probably all we are ever going to get. The Bonus features are spread across the discs and catalogued in the booklet, so yes it’s very easy to find what you are looking for unlike some other sets.

It is a nice set, however the loss of detail from the supposed restoration is very noticeable when you compare it to the original DVD's. Everyone has their preferences but I would rather have the original grain than it smoothed out and loss of detail. You do know the CD is available seperately via the Fab Films Ebay store? You dont need to re-purchase the original series to get it. They are also selling the outer box on its own for the combined set.

Hi mate,just subscribed, this is very tempting but 65 quid or even 90 in hmv is way overpriced, I recently saw that amazon were selling the original fabulous release for 20 quid ,this includes both series of down under, unfortunately missed this deal ,hopefully will pick up in future, I'm tempted by the extras though, thanks for the video mate, very informative, look forward to future videos

Welcome to the channel! It is alot to cough up at once. When reviewing this set I did go back and look at the original DVD releases to compare the picture quality and they obviusly arent as sharp as these (nor scrubbed clean) but arent too bad - all comes down to personal preference. Regardless of price I would recommend this set over the older DVD's though due to the extras.

It's pointless waiting around for this deal or that. By the time you make any purchase, you could be dead. You only live once, so just buy it. Both are available together now, the original series 1-4, and the two series down under. It's expensive, but, it's a wonderful investment that you would never, ever want to part with.

For me the price was just a bit of a grumble rather than a deal breaker. It is great watching these again - last time I saw them all was when the DVD set was released around 2000/2001.

Thanks, I won't be wasting my money on this crap. Grain is good. The worst DNR I've seen is on the RU-vid channel Creature Features. Terror at London Bridge (1985). David Hassleoff looks like a cartoon character.

Haha - I checked out Terror at London Bridge video and you are right, it is DNR'd to the extreme! - Either that or they put the makeup on the actors with a shovel! 😆
