Trying to get back into TGCs and to me it seems like Yu-Gi-Oh had the biggest change out of the top 3 hitters, Yu-Gi-Oh + MtG and Pokemon. Old Yugi - I summon a monster, set a trap and end my turn. Current Yugi - it isn't a combo unless you use half your deck.

I LOVE seeing classic cards, as someone completely detached from modern yugioh its nice to see

This took me back to when my father got me 1 booster at Target as a kid and I pulled “Swords of Revealing Light”. Such a defining moment of my childhood. Still have it to this day. Awesome video guys!

13:23 Alec forgot +500 from Solemn Vow but 14:19 Gaia Force would have given War Rock Fortia +500 atk. Thankfully they cancelled each other out lol. This really put into perspective how power creep has affected Yugioh.

The “small mistake” of not putting malevolent nussler on the top of deck instead of in hand was what cost the 2021 pack to lose that second game. If he hadn’t pulled jinzo 7 at that precise time then the game was over

The main advantage the old cards had is being generic. By opening 12 packs of the same new set you drastically reduce this by having enough cards from the same archetype to have at least a half assed sinergy. If you filled 12 pack slots with 4 different new sets things might have gone way different.

I love the old yugioh card art so much, newer cards do look cool but the old monsters and art style just look so unique

Watching the old school packs getting opened was such a joy, on the other hand every single card in the modern packs was so overwhelming to look at, yugioh was so simple and magical now you need a phd to understand the game lol

This has shown what the problem with current yugioh is, effect text is too much. Not only is the text small the formatting makes it hard to tell where cost of an effect end and when where the effect beings.

I like how Ceremonial Bell equalized the 2nd game

So no joke, when I was playing Yugioh legacy of the duelist link evolution, I tried to be cheeky and play deklin’s double and triple d deck against one of Yami yugi’s first decks. Went second, set up combo for otk, got waboku’ed, then next turn raigeki, then beat down, this repeatedly happened for two turns, until I died to beat sticks. I wanted to be mad but just was more impressed really.

Watching this put a huge smile on my face, You just don't really see back-to-back duels like this anymore which is what I miss the most.

the old artworks look a thousand times cooler than most of what we get today

That 1700 atk monster that Paul attacked with at 14:30 should have added an additional 500 atk thanks to his opponent's field spell, someone let me know if I'm wrong or missed something...

It's a little hilarious to see the old cards where it's almost all normal monsters.....then every new card has a giant paragraph of effects

Looking at how some Koaki cards were ruled in their interaction with Ceremonial Bell, it seems to be the case that Bell stops effects that reveal cards as cost.

And for the first time ever in the history of yugioh, jinzo#7 actually came up lol

Regardless of the results, I believe if we’re talking straight out of random packs, old school cards have the advantage. That’s how the game started, with cards you had to throw together but managed to work because they didn’t require real synergy with the exception of cards like Exodia, fusions, and very few others. The new cards require you to play certain ways which makes playing straight out of packs more difficult.

I discovered your guys channel yesterday and been binging nonstop. Larry in the hole might be my favorite series. But I say all that to say, you guys have improved EVERY video. Whether it's upgrades in equipment or technique, I know every video there will be an improvement. Quality channel, quality content and a quality squad!

I feel like it would be cool to see duels between different generations of Yu-Gi-Oh, for example like the first couple sets of GX vs the first couple sets of like 5Ds or Zexal or something along those lines. not sure if its the greatest idea but it would be fun to see

Let's give props to the old guard deck for really giving the new cards a run for their money. This also shows just how reliant on archetypes the new game is. You could make a functional, if not optimal deck with 12 boosters and would function perfectly well at the time. That 12 booster deck for modern play would just get annihilated, though, meaning you've got to pay a *lot* more money to craft a functioning deck by today's standards. Still a fun showing!

When looking at old yugioh you have to remember how those decks played it was more control and tempo based ground collapse heavy storm solemn wishes crass clown and some other older pulls were actually pretty good for setting that up. However the balance in pack distribution wasn’t fair to test this experiment the player using new cards had more of the same packs giving them more of a chance for consistency and synergy while the player using older cards only got 3 of each pack setting them up for failure from the beginning with this experiment. Giving the new set player all the same set also gave them better probability of getting rarer more powerful cards while the older set player was basically playing pauper (commons & uncommons)

A really interesting idea would be a tournament if the best decks you can build from each individual set. You build a deck using cards only from a single set and see which set by itself is the most powerful.

I'm watching Yu-Gi-Oh the Duelists Kingdom arc RN just for the good times, and I love to see all of these nostalgic monsters, man your video came in the right time.

You missed the 500 on draw from the continuous trap at least once.

So from what it looks like, if a card effect requires you to reveal a card, but it's already revealed by another effect, you can't reveal it. So Tilted Try wouldn't work while Ceremonial Bell is on the field.

Man, I wish I could have seen the days when monsters looked like monsters instead of being mostly waifu/loli bait, normal monsters were actually useful, and cards were generic enough that you could throw them into just about anything and expect them to work.

I've been playing the TCG since right around the Magic Ruler-Pharaoh's Servant era, I think the Pharaoh's Servant card are probably the most nostalgic for me

I really like this concept so hopefully we can see more videos like it. I personally prefer having it set up where the field is in the middle with a player on each side but keeping it like this is not a problem.

You guys really inspire me, especially with these kind of videos. They're some of my favourites. So much so that I did something similar to what you guys did. I bought a booster box (phantom rage) and used only the cards I pulled to make a deck! I'm actually very proud of it, even though I have nobody to play with. I can tell you about the deck if you want, although I understand if you don't. Anyway, the main thing I wanted to say is thank you for making these videos and inspiring me to have fun.
