The Soviet Union would NOT survive. Wondering why? Look up the relations of the following countries: Russia-Ukraine Azerbaijan-Armenia Kyrgyzstan-Tajikistan Georgia-Georgia (Abkhazia) Georgia-Georgia (South Ossetia) Russia-Latvia Russia-Lithuania Russia-Estonia
Our GDP wouldn't be so lousy if it wasn't for sanctions. Back in the 70s, our economy quite well. Not to mention my grandpa just rebuilt the nation from the ashes of the war, which the US bombed us to oblivion.
The GDP can change if a country secedes, because it can depend in the internal trading. This is very significant when talking about non-federal countries where any region has economic autonomy or any similar properties. To know if a nation can survive we need social, political and microeconomics information which is way more complex than only the money generated in the region (which is already a very unprecise measure of the economics and the population). It's also included here the international context about that specific country
Your videos have improved loads! Ideas you could use: What if the Arab League became a single country What if the British Empire reformed Maybe u could also do a country comparison vids like: Algeria vs Egypt Mexico vs Brazil Sweden vs Norway Poland vs Germany
probably not, China would probably see the new USSR as a threat. I mean China probably sees current day Russia as somewhat of a threat, given their large land-border, Russia Military etc. Historically Russia and China haven't always gotten along, During the Boxer rebellion Russia joined the Eight-Nation Alliance against China, siding with their fellow Europeans, Russia also contested Manchuria along side the Japanese, who would win the conflict, making Manchuria a puppet. Even after the rise of the Soviets and their part in helping the PRC conquer the rest of mainland China, they still had the falling out of the Sino-soveit split where their relations were greatly strained
The USSR was great and the second economy cuz it was socialist as soon as they took capitalist reform's it broke apart and those countries would make a capitalist union today and it would be different meaning much weaker as they wouldn't even come close to the former USSR.

As a Bosnian American, I believe that modern day Yugoslavia looks extremely weak compared to it's past. Most of that population is retirees while the young people move to Germany and benefit the German economy. And with the 9k gdp per capita, I doubt Croats and Slovenes would drop their standard of living to be brought down by Bosnia, Serbia, Montenegro, Kosovo and North Macedonia. And comparing your military to Nigeria (no offense towards Nigerians) in spending is not a good outlook to compare to your neighbors of Germany, Italy and Russia. Those three alone would swallow Yugoslavia. Therefore, NO modern day Yugoslavia would not survive.
This video is very interesting. Some of the places you’ve mentioned have proposed unity or separation. I’m not sure how New England made it on the list. But I do know that some people in New Hampshire would like to gain independence from the USA.
I not only think Québec and Catalonia would survive, I strongly support their independence. Preserving languages and cultures is more important than short term economic issues.
Quebec will be independent in the next 30 years. French nationalism is quite high there (I lived in an english speaking suburb of Montreal for a few years). They almost won independence twice by 1%.
The South American union (UNASUR) collapsed because other nations on the continent didn't like the influence of Nicolás Maduro and so they opted to form a new right-wing alternative by former Chilean president Sebastián Piñera and former Colombian president Iván Duque called the Forum for the Progress and Integration of South America (or PROSUR). All of South America joined except for Guyana, Suriname, Bolivia, and of course Venezuela. The irony with Chile and Colombia forming this is Chile withdrawn from the initiative after leftist president Gabriel Boric was elected. And now that Colombia has leftist president Gustavo Petro, the country will too, leave PROSUR. There's also a South American trade bloc called Mercosur with Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay, and Brazil as full members and Bolivia, Colombia, Peru, Chile, Guyana, Ecuador, and Suriname. Venezuela used to be a full member but was suspended in 2016.
England is a country… it just part of the UK because they all form one government but they are all separate countries too. England, Scotland, Wales and Nothern Island
Considering the relations between a lot of these countries, the ones in the U.S. seem the most realistic in addition to Quebec and Catalonia. The European Union and NATO are maybes but I am not sure about them because it's likely not all of the countries would agree to it.
"What if Québec and California were independent countries?" Starting to like the thought. Especially since I'm moving from one to the other this summer 😂
after that next is "What of the Spanish Empire returned today" no ones gonna expect it the countries that used to be under spanish control more precisely, wait a minute,im in a country that used to be under spanish rule,AAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!
As a non-American, I was really puzzled by the date system you used until I realized that the US puts the month before the day. Idk seems inefficient but what can you say to a country who still uses the imperial system with random numbers rather than the very simple metric system with just multiples of 10.
Would trigger collas. Would be better to make new cities or a capital for each region. Buenos Aires in south. Lima in Northwest Rio de Janeiro in East. That would be freaking epic.
@David Garcia Catalonia def no. No country supports it, especially not the west who are all allies of Spain. The same for Quebec, Texas and California.
3:48 This video is amazing but there is only one little mistake, when you said zagreb was the 2nd largest city in Yugoslavia, you are kinda wrong. Belgrade has a size of 360 km² while zagreb has a double of that of around 641 km² while skopje has a size of 571.5 km² while Pristina has a size of 572 km² thus making Zagreb the largest city, Pristina the 2nd, Skopje the 3rd followed by Ohrid in macedonia, Then Belgrade followed by Osijek in Croatia, Ljubljana in Slovenia and then the last being Sarajevo. *and before any people start a literal war in the comments about this, i just want to tell you that I got this information from Many, Many websites including Google.*
