After 2500 miles lets get an honest review of the Mercedes CLA 200. Should you buy a brand new Mercedes CLA? What doesn't the dealer tell you? Do they really depreciate that much?
You don't know what you are talking about. If you are going to sling mud, maybe you should research first. For example: Manual mode IS available. Activate the "Dynamic Select" switch, and highlight the "Individual" mode tab. Now push the settings icon in the bottom left of the screen and then select the "Drive" tab. Scroll down to the bottom tab "Manual" and select. Now the car is in manual gear change only mode. I suggest before you provide a so called comprehensive test and review, you actually thoroughly research and learn the features of the vehicle, rather than make complaint that a feature is unavailable when it is actually a stock standard item. Furthermore, program a theme and activate when you get in the car. Have it in Economy mode. It cannot just change itself to sport mode. Again, learn the features do the research before slinging mud.
Carnt With all the respect in the world, this is an opinion from driving the car, the average person doesn't know how to do all the things you instructed and if it isn't plain and simple then it's overly complicated which you shouldn't get from a car with this price tag. I stand by my review and have found that lot's of people have had the similar experiences. I'm not slinging mud, I love Merc, always have, sold hundreds of them, I just didn't like this one.
I have the same boot problem with my 2019 b class which has electric boot, i have mercedes me app to lock everything so you can do that, it will close and lock everything. Good tip about holding the lock button down tho. I will do that from now on.
The boot problem sounds resolvable - someone below suggested you can hold the lock button to disable it. Almost all your other criticisms for me are reasons to like it. I’m not into cars or driving and, so, the more the car does for me, the better. I doubt if I’d ever use “sport” over “comfort” mode, for example. The problem of scraping speed bumps etc., is the biggest negative of all those you mentioned; I really hate doing that.
I have also been told that the Mercedes me app can sort out the boot issue also, what we need to understand is that when we get given random cars to test they don't usually come with manuals etc, and this was a brand new car at the time so very little info available, now lots of people have made videos about everything I mentioned here. I agree, the scraping is so frustrating.
Personally i think the cla shooting brake is a better buy and still looks great with more headroom in the back and a cavernous boot with the seats down. Same chassis etc virtually same weight.
Also i have found nobody that can map a 180, i have a manual gearbox and dont have an issue with power in a 180, its also very good on fuel up the motorway 50mpg is easily achievable driving at speed limit. I am thinking of getting a cla250e, just because i love the looks.
Hi Ali It's quite aerodynamic so wind noise was pretty good, if you do a fair few motorway miles then go for the diesel as I found the petrol's to lose the power band the closer to 70 mph it got.
@@Stevesautos Thanks for the reply. I don't do many motorway miles mostly inner city but this does involve the London North Circular and dual carriage roads. I don't mind not going fast as long as its comfortable and quiet enough :)
I swapped a 70 plate A200 for a 21 plate 180 CLA, the Cla is heavy on fuel and I get a lot of jealousy from other drivers, I’m often pushed off the road. I got it in white, wish I’d got a black one. The ambient lighting is great but reflection in mirror is a bit much. It’s very comfy and looks awesome, The boot is so big, couldn’t manage with the A200. Though the A200 was better on fuel. Miss the manual transmission, and IMO the gear lever in the CLA is backwards, the reverse is at the top and drive at the bottom. He’s right, the bum end is stunning, personally I’m really pleased, just the fuel useage is difficult. Never had issues with the paddles as he’s describing.
@@ellemorgan1331 Hey Elle, I was also looking at the CLA but I was slightly put off by Stephens review of it. I agree, it is one of the most aesthetically pleasing cars out there so I can imagine there is a lot of jealousy from other road users. I was leaning more towards the A200 as I wont be doing an awful lot of miles and I think its more suited to my needs. How did you find getting in and out of the A200? I am quite tall and have seen people say it is very low down. Did you like the drive of the A200?
Terrible car. We traded it in after a few months. I dont really see where this car fits in. Not a everyday car for familys. Not comfy enough for business miles and slow as F for any fun
