Thanks for the video, would love to see a follow up in a year or two as that plastic on plastic quick release doesnt fill me with a lot of confidence. Cheers

I have this exact one and it's been nothing but great to use. The power is the thing that was the selling point for me, but just the additional features, like the drawer, or the removable water basin have been icing on the cake.

Hi, I also have the Grinder 2, and would thoroughly recommend it. Prior to this grinder I had only used a cheap grinder for about £100 sold widely but to me was totally useless as the motor died in a short space of time, so went ahead and invested in this one, I have to say I wasn't disappointed and still remain a keen advocate for it. I have had my Grinder 2 for about 9-10 months now, and couldn't recommend it enough for it's ease of use e.g. removal of the water tray, ease of removing the grinder head with the click system, and also the quality of the build. Thanks for highlighting all of these things in the clear and concise video :)

Great to get your feedback on this grinder ! I’m still getting used to it as it’s a new purchase for me and I am looking forward to using it over the long term, and how easy my students find it to use too! Thanks for your support 🙏🙂

Hello mr Derek. O loved it and i am a glass recicler person in Ubatuba at tropic of capricorn. I colect glass on the beach and sand paper is my grinder so far. Many people hurt themselvs on the beach and Brazil in no longer a glass fabricant anymore of color glass. I make jewel with them and i developed something diferent and unique but create my own tools as we dont have a grinder in Brazil. It was really n8ce to see this one. Wish u all the best sir and many blesses for our hand. I am physical therapist as well so many care to our hands!!! Ahow all the best🎉🎉🎉🎉

Ubatuba, this is near Sao Paolo !! One of the most colorful places on Earth in a very important country. People grind glass, large corporations grind people.

Those clear plastic shields quickly get frosted by spraying/splashing water with glass particles in it, so I just take them off and rely on protective eyewear and put the grinder on something that water spray won't damage. I have an old steel desk with a rubberized top that's perfect for my grinder(s) and Taurus saw. I've also been resisting the move to the fancy articulated grinder bits, but I'm sure you do much more glass work than I ever did, and I can see how the new ones offer more convenience. Thanks for the video!

@DerekHuntArtist 6 месяцев назад
You're welcome @grampsinsl5232! I can see the plastic shield getting scratched and scuffed quire quickly too, although it does offer a little bit of protection. Didn't see too much water getting sprayed around the working area beyond the grinder itself, which is good.

I've seen this in the many years of teaching. And all the "shields" that came with various machines have always gone into the circular file (trash bin) in a matter of just a few uses. Grinders, Ring saws, etc. I hear Dereck's protection concern, but it is in my opinion a fleeting moment, as these are always in the way and become unusable very, very quickly. Good eyewear is really the key here.

Yes good eye goggles are the most important barrier to protect you from small bits of glass flying around. I have seen grinders placed in fish tanks which have been turned on their side. Works well if the tank is larger enough to get your hands in easily, as it acts as a splash guard and an eye protector 👍🏼🙂

Sometimes I would like to have a 2 inch grinderwheel for large pieces with large curvatures. I would like to have one motor driving 2 different bits.. The quick fit release is handy because we do not always have imperial Allan keys.
@DerekHuntArtist
@DerekHuntArtist 6 месяцев назад
I must admit, I have only ever used one size bit and have never changed mine. The quick fit bit easy change mechanism has prompted me to think about buying smaller bits for more detailed grinding areas.

I like working with colored glass, making Tiffani pictures. I am not an artist.. so many people have such a splendid feeling for shape and color. Whatever, I grind away. Phe fa fum. I mounted a 1/4 Inch wheel on the same shaft as a 1 inch wheel. I try to compensate my lack of artistic talent by grinding tricks. I all is lost I grind my teeth.

Thank you for the presentation! It was very interesting! However, I would like to ask a few questions. How do you see this product in comparison with Kristall? Is it better/easier to work with Grinder? Is it difficult to order spare parts to the countries of EU if need? Thank you!
@DerekHuntArtist
@DerekHuntArtist 6 месяцев назад
It compares well to the Kristall grinder as the LED light is very helpful and the removable water tray it excellent !

Would you say this grinder is significantly more quiet than others? I live in an apartment building and want to find something that wont be so loud, if not than how do you feel about an abrasive stone as an alternative?
@DerekHuntArtist
@DerekHuntArtist 26 дней назад
Its about the same noise level as other grinders. The motor is quiet but the noise is generated when glass is being grinded, so they all sound about the same.

I like the brush! The little sponge looses contact with the grinder, and had to use a household Glas Cleaner spray bottle my shield was a carboard box... mmm a bit primitive
@DerekHuntArtist
@DerekHuntArtist 6 месяцев назад
Yes, the brush seems to work quite well, although I don't know how long it will last before wearing down.
@carlbrenninkmeijer8925
@carlbrenninkmeijer8925 6 месяцев назад
@@DerekHuntArtist I do not know either! But I do know that diamonds scintered on a brass cylinder grinds glass like butter. But not my finger !! Therefore I am hopeful that the brush approach is a good solution.

I am by no means saying this isn't good. As always, you use what will work best for you. What I like is of no consequence if someone else finds it uncomfortable. What Grinder(s) were you using? Inland has all the features you just described (plus includes the extras -- well used to --that this one requires you to buy separately) Also, the "quick" system. It's no good if you can't adjust the height of the grinder bit. It may do so, but I didn't really see that in action. Bits will wear out in one spot after being used a lot. so moving it up and down gives it bit of new life. The wicking action I would have to see. A cheap sponge is easy to replace and does the job well. Just my personal taste, but the guard is useless to me, I have a piece of cardboard up behind the grinder to take care of splashing grit and water. I like the drawer. With that hefty price tag, it's a no for me. But I've had and used the same 2 Inland grinders I've had for over 17 years. Only issue I've had was a worn out toggle switch.

I hear ya James! I have 2 existing grinders, one of which is at least 25 years old and still works fine with a sponge and a plastic board behind. Was curious to see what the Grinder 2 was all about so bought one. Its good to have a new bit of kit every now and again 👍🏼

Can the Grinder 2 motor work properly in a 50Hz electrical supply? I am interested in purchasing one from the US.
@DerekHuntArtist
@DerekHuntArtist 5 месяцев назад
As far as I’m aware the Grinder 2 works in the UK, USA and Europe with no problems regarding the electrical supply rating🙂

It looks to me that the RPM seems too slow. My Inland grinders spin twice as fast. I worry that it would slow down production time. Any insight would be appreciated. Thx

I agree, it does seem to run quite slowly, but gets the job done. The motor feels strong enough for the task in hand.

@DerekHuntArtist Does the grinder take a 1" grinding bit? Thx for your reply on my last comment and this one.

I’m not sure, I only have only bit which came with the grinder. Perhaps look on their website site for more details !👍🏼
@Art_911
@Art_911 6 месяцев назад
Speed is not always the key here. Sometimes the slow and steady is a better result. The quality of the bit is what I would consider to be the workhorse of the setup.

I bought The Grinder when it first came out. Loved the way it worked, ease of cleaning, etc. bragged about it online. Then it quit working. I sent it in for repair and bought a second one because I have a business to run and needed a grinder while that one was repaired. They said it was my fault because water had gotten between the two sections. The grinder I had replaced was 26-27 years old, I bought it when I opened my studio in 1993, and the motor was still fine, the on off switch was faulty and it was very worn, but no motor issues from water. About 10 months later the same issue occurred with the second one. Making a machine that uses water that is that susceptible to issues from water, is poor engineering and quality. The Grinder in my opinion is overpriced and underwhelming .
